It may just be a current fling for me, but the '68 Mustang Fastback is my favourite of the moment. Even thinking of buying a junker, cleaning up the body & interior, and putting in all modern hardware (as in, SVT Cobra 5.4L engine, etc.).

ooh actually let me update that pic the morgan +8 is good but by far the best is the ferrari 250gto
this beauty topped 185mph in 1964 and ive got a big book called 'the ultimate history of fast cars' and after 20 years (according to the book) there was finally a car to challenge it the porsche 959 with a top speed of 197mph arrived in 1983 at the frankfurt motor show.

Came from the factory with either a 390 cid engine or a 428 cid with two four bbl carbs.
It could seat four, but had a tonneau cover that came all the way to the backs of the front seats, for a sportier appearance.
Check out Classic T-Bird web sites for better pix.
The 1961-1963 T-birds were the only ones that had the "Sports Roadster" option available.

My first car was a 1962 T-bird Landau. It was also the first car I ever rode in. (MY dad bought it new). If I ever get a decent pic of it scanned in, it will take the Sports Roadster's place as my avatar. :D

I also have a soft spot for the Lamborghini Muira, and the '55 Mercedes Gullwing (300SL)

Hooligan,
I was reading the current issue of "Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords." There is a small article for a company called Mustang Parts Specialties that has fifty '00 model Mustang Cobra Engines for sale.
"These mills come complete with all accessories, a starter, complete exhaust system, motor mounts, five speed transmission, and clutch assembly. The wiring harness (complete with computer) also comes with the package, as does a mass air meter, filter (with box) and fuel pump. The only thing missing is the Cobra sheet metal that once surrounded the engine." (straight off of page 22)

They are listing the package for $6,000, which seems like a good price to me for those people that are more mechanically inclined. But, it's a high enough price to keep those not truly interested from wasting their time.

If you're interested contact Mustang Parts Specialities at www.stangparts.com

one more thing can the cobra go 185? anyway the cobra and morgan+8 come in 2nd and 3rd in my fave classics car list.
with the gt40 tying for 3rd with the cobra

Actually, it was later that Ford GT40s took LeMan 1-2-3. I believe it was 1968 or 1969.
What happened was that Henry Ford II tried to buy Ferrari in the early '60's. Enzo was ready to sell, but it looked like Ford would want too much control of the Company, and would change the "Vision" of Ferrari.
Enzo nixed the sale. Henry Ford was so pissed that he decided that he would build a car that would beat Ferrari, and he wanted to do it on Ferrari's "Turf". Hence the GT40 (so named cuz it's only 40 inches tall). It took Ford a coupla three years but they did eventually beat the Pants off of Ferrari all that year.
(OF course the GT40 was running a 7.0 liter motor against a 3.5 to 4.0 liter. I don't care if it was a V-12. There is still no replacement for displacement.)

I know, I just picked up that issue (first muscle car mag for me). It's probably exactly what I'm looking for, but I lack so many of the important resources: money, space, money, time, a garage, and money. In the meantime, I'm educating myself on Mustangs and muscle cars in general. Very different "language" from Euro's and modern sport compacts.

Someday, maybe not too soon...but someday.

Honda S800, the S2000's ancestor. Rwd drive (with a chain, like a bike!) 600cc engine, 8000 rpm in the 1960s. Quite fun to drive too, apparently.

KGC10 Skyline. Has a cult in Japan similar to the Corvette's on our shores. And it looks badass.

toyota_2000gt.jpg

Toyota 2000GT. Best looking car to come out of the land of the rising sun. Ever.

Lamborghini Miura & Espada. No need for words, look at those pics. Best looking cars to come out of Italy, better than the prancing Donkeys from Maranello.

Favorite car. Ever.

Hmmmm......BMW M1....

Jag E-Type - sex on wheels...

...how can you not love the Cooper S (and yes, that is John Cooper with the car)...

..and the original 4WD performance car, the Jensen Interceptor.

im not a great fan of the cooper or any other small cars tbh. however as for punk rocks post, isn't it incredible that the japanese always manage to find a new way to make a car ugly? if only they brought in some european stylists, or just copied some of our cars (like they did back in the 60's and 70's) they would have world beaters... oh well :D

forgive me if ive already said this before but the cobra is responsible for speedlimits on motorways here in the UK. i think it was CAR magazine took a stock one up to 191mph on the M1... it was certainly a higher speed than 185
