Nice ST. I've been checking them out lately, and I like seeing them going down the road, but I can't get past the fact that its a Ford.
I've never been into Fords either, but they've really stepped up the last 5 or so years. Go take a ride in one, it might change your mind.

I agree. They listened to the community with the ST models, and have taken chances with the Raptor. You also can't discount their place in the muscle car HP battle currently raging with the big 3.

My roommate has a 2012 Roush Stage 3 and the thing is ridiculously fast, especially with the phase 2 tune he put on it. It's putting down around 600 to the wheels. Never been a Mustang fan either, but that thing changed my mind. The 2015 looks even better.

Here's his Roush.

Yeah, I'd never own one, but they are making a comeback for sure. Even the late model V6s were decently impressive and, dare I say, fun to drive. And the EcoBoost option now ... welcome back the SVO! I missed you little guy!

What's this have to do with anything? If it's a good car, then it's a good car.

The problem is, any Ford I've met in the last 10 years has fallen apart or produced issues within 5 years that are more money and trouble to fix than its worth. In fact, I don't know anyone who has bought a Ford since 2000 and kept it for more than 4 years due to major problems or a plethora of small, yet annoying and expensive to repair "quirks".

I have a 10 year-old Ford that I've kept since it was 9 months old. We only started having problems until it was around 8 or 9 years old, and we've recently replaced the engine, clutch and flywheel (only costing around £650 all together, including price of the engine), and now it's running fine again. I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong, obviously you've been unfortunate with Fords and had bad experiences, just throwing in my two cents.

This classy little* 2003 530i picked me up from school today.

64,300 miles, automatic, two previous owners, drives like a goddamn tank yet manages to be comfortable. It's excellent.

*Compared to a big black Lexus.

Clutch and flywheel are one thing, but having to replace the engine on a car that is under 10 years old, and I'm going to assume under 120k miles, is absurd IMO. Although the price wasn't bad, not everyone can afford that, or should accept that as "regular maintenance" on a 10 year old car. I'm glad you've had a positive experience with owning a Ford, I just wish I could say the same for myself.

Oh, I agree with the engine part, although we do think that's down to lack of maintenance and servicing from us. Having to replace an engine at 85k miles is a bit strange, but other than that, no major problems have come about.

Very nice, Doog. I've always loved the E39, and yours looks to be in really good condition. Love the Sterling Grey color to boot.

Looks like you'll have to update your car thread to tell us more about this.

No, never. Both my dad and I are too attached to it for that to ever happen, so it's just gone back to being his commuter and grocery-getter.

Ooh, so now you've got your own car? Sa-weet. I demand a thread for this also, and you better add mods to it unlike the Lexus. :P

I thought he was getting the Mini when he gets his license?

Or has that plan changed and you're now getting the BMW?

He got his license back in October. He never intended to inherit the Mini to begin with. The Lexus was his primary vehicle of choice but it was never truly his. The whole reason he got the BMW was so he would have his own car.

I think.

The thread should come soon, at least after I've got a couple decent non-driveway photos of it.

I had my pick of any of the existing cars, but the Mini's just too damn uncomfortable for the mostly in-town driving I do. The plan was that I'd inherit the Lexus when it came time to park at school (not until next year, because Sophomores can't get parking, despite an abundance of open spaces). The Lexus, while comfortable as a mattress, isn't particularly interesting to drive, which caused me to start researching and looking at used BMWs on the internet. I wanted something that was nice to drive but didn't beat me up. The Bimmer strikes that nice balance between handling and everyday comfort. After several months of primarily driving the Lexus, it didn't feel like mine. The Bimmer feels like mine.

You thought correctly.

I see the optional anti-gravity tyres have been fitted.

But seriously, I really like the look of the G37s, much smoother lines than the 370Z and less jellybean-like than the 350 twins.

Actually taken a few days ago, and it's not really high quality enough for me to bother putting it on Flickr:

First time ever in the snow(what little there is) and soon it'll be her first time ever in the tropics. Getting ready to spend some time prepping her for a 19 hour drive. Clean inside and out, wax, tire rotation/wheel cleaning, leather cleaning, the whole thing.

It's gonna be filthy before you even make it out of state  They've salted the crap out of the damn roads around here.
