Built a new exhaust for Dori yesterday ...

Just before setting off from Pasadena, MD to Key West, FL. Wheels cleaned(inside and out) and rotated, oil changed fairly recently. Washed, waxed, cleane inside and out, and a full tank of gas:

401 miles of almost entirely stop and go traffic later(to the point where we actually had to stop in Virginia for the first night) we made it to North Carolina...

Punched through 432 miles in a single go(still fighting stop and go through SC and managed Daytona, FL by the time we stopped. Woke up in the morning realizing just how close to the track I actually was:

Found an SXT Dart in the same color while I was there:

Then one hour south to our first lengthy stop at the Kennedy Space Flight Center:

'Murica(with some Italian)

And finally, after 1,300 miles of actually mostly smooth highway driving at 70-75mph, I made it to Key West:

(Note: I wanted to get a picture infront of the "Southern Most Point" and mile marker 0, but Key West is really busy, and this is actually Anne's Beach about 30 miles north, which is still the Keys so close enough. Also, the return trip was completed in a total span of 31 hours with a total drive time of 21 hours. Also, for the trip down, I was no more than a few miles from my parents in this. The way back was just with the car.)

That post is just awesome, Minty. I respect people who care for their cars as much as you do. Hope you enjoyed your trip. Great pics and a great car.

This is mine: a 1997 Toyota Starlet CD 5-door. My first car, so nothing much. Has aftermarket wheels and... that's it. Although I am fitting a front splitter from an old Renault Megane on to it, so hopefully it won't look so generic in the future :P. And those Glanza stickers are off the car now; no point trying to make it look like it's fast and turbo'd because lol na 5-door.

Don't have a whole lot planned for it really, apart from changing the seats (which are feral) and some minor exterior and performance modifications. A TTE backbox and either Starlet Glanza/GT Turbo seats or Paseo seats would make the car set for the most part.

In all honestly you're best off saving your money and waiting a few years. I didn't modify my first car (1.1 Clio) and after one and a half years my insurance had gone down enough and i'd bought an E30 325i, and a year after that and I've just bought a 130i.

No point spending loads on your first car, just use it sensibly so it costs you as little money as possible.

Oh I know that. My big, ambitious plan was to get a whole set of bumpers, head/taillights and interior trim pieces to make a replica of the turbo Glanza model, hence the cheap, replica stickers that were put on the door. Once I realised how stupidly expensive those parts are (to put it into perspective, a set of Japanese-spec taillights bought from Toyota are worth a 1/4 of what my car cost to buy :scared:), the plan was ditched and I'm now just doing minor things to both learn from and save cash. :P I have no zany engine mods planned like a lot of 17 year olds who say they're gonna get their SXi Corsas tuned or whatever. In all honesty, a backbox for the exhaust is as far as I'd go in that department since they come up cheaply on the owner's forum frequently, is easy to fit and is an OEM part too.

I plan on either moving up to a Starlet GT Turbo (probably way too hard to get covered as it's both a turbo car and an import) or an MX-5 (although the hairdresser reputation puts me off...).

MX5 is RWD and once you get one you'll be hooked, don't worry about what people think of you. You won't care when you have a smile on your face.

And by the sounds of it you like modifying cars and from friends I have who have extensively modified MX5s (NA) it's a great car for that.

That's kind of why I was thinking of getting one. They're reliable, relatively small engined, easy to work on, and there's thousands of them out there, and they're dirt cheap. Plus, it's much a more common platform for modifying so there's a lot more help and advice online than Starlets.

From what I hear about the MX-5's handling, it sounds as if I would need to do little to it anyway. Chuck on some good tyres, maybe a roll bar and suspension and you're good to go. 👍

This is a Quantum Saloon kit car based on a Ford Fiesta Mk2 XR2. Its alright for my first car but what to change it sometime this year.

Thanks.

I forgot to get pictures after getting back before washing her off again. Ended up raining and the dust from the day before ended up making a pretty cool pattern after drying at speed.

Get rid of the goofy dealer plate and you're good. I love the ST, such a fun little car.

Noooo not the black kidney grilles :(

Both of my BMW's have come with them on and it's the first thing I change. Haven't got round to doing it on the 130i yet thought as it requires removing the while front bumper.

I like the Taurus, but I'm sad you sold the Mustang.
Agreed. But was hard to get two kids around in sports. So bought the SHO. Funny thing is the SHO is faster than the stang. Ran it before I sold it

The SHO is pretty cool, I was looking at one at the dealer the other day when I was picking up my ST. If only it was stick...

I love that colour on E46s 👍

Manual or Auto?
