Back to topic of sim setup

It's somewhat simple and nothing special, however took me awhile to tweak it to this position and get it to a "perfect" position (handbrake, steering position, and screen FOV Adjustment)

I think I have OCD, coz 1mm movement on the screen wiil drive me nuts and I spent 2 hours fixing them lol :scared:

I created a mount which will cater 2 x Th8RS and a Frex all in a single HumanRacing Gear mount. No wobble see youtube channel.
http://www.youtube.com/user/HwangmPSN?feature=mhee

The button box is created using SLI-PRO and Cthulu so they work with PS3 and PC. 5 LED on the button box are for power, damage, fuel, overheat and pitlane, (some buttons are on Xpadder profile ie, no fuel, no tyre and for hi/sorry/thanks one button typing in iRacing)

the SLI PRO is running Desty's script and it displays what game you are on, when the sim is not on, and custom message.(iRacing, rfactor, Race07, Dirt,F1 2011) <- anything you want to display during game pause really.

Handbrake plate is using Original Th8RS Sequential plate and modified them for longer throw for Analogue handbrake mode.

the H-Knob is real pool ball ordered to th8rs thread size , and Delrin grip/knob for handbrake.

its running from 2009 iMac i7 so that's why it's not on triple yet (next prioritised upgrade)

Very nice work. But did you take that photo using a mirror? Cause the shifters are on the wrong side. ;)

A PS3 is a "computer". It performs computations. Folding at Home ring a bell? It's usage is dedicated. Lumping Gran Turismo with MNR is complete BS and you know it. iRacing doesn't compete with the simulator used by Formula One teams for training. GT, iRacing, F1 sim all "simulate" driving. Some do it better than others. We don't all have a few hundred thousand dollars for n F1 simulator or even the flight simulator Boeing has. Microsoft's flight sim is a game too I guess? In the same group as Pilot Wings and Ace Combat?

Ah yes, Ace Combat. I nearly forgot what a fun Sim/Game.

Thanks, Re the left left side i know its a joke so everybody please ease up :)

If its the wrong side my pic would come out upside down . Hehhee since im down under

Revthe mirror, it was there during moving
Furniture but turns out to be angled right for video showing the pedal in actions.

Well Vince__, I guess I used 2 mirrors for my setup then...

I'd say it's time to end with these 'jokes'.

Thanks, Re the left left side i know its a joke so everybody please ease up :)

For those of you outside of the USA or not familiar some aspects of American English colloquialisms, VINCE__'s moniker reads "Redneck Extraordinaire" which may explain some of the content in his posts'.

The current definition for Redneck on Wikipedia is the following:

Redneck is a historically derogatory slang term used in reference to poor, uneducated white farmers, especially from the southern United States.[1][2] It is similar in meaning to cracker (especially regarding Georgia and Florida), hillbilly (especially regarding Appalachia and the Ozarks),[3] and white trash (but without the last term's suggestions of immorality).[4][5][6]

In recent decades, the term has expanded its meaning to refer to bigoted, loutish reactionaries who are opposed to modern ways,[7] and has often been used to attack Southern conservatives and racists.[8] At the same time, some Southern whites have reclaimed the word, using it with pride and defiance as a self-identifier.[9]

He lists Tennessee as his location, so most likely he falls into the last definition listed, and seems quite proud of being a Redneck, hence the "Extraordinaire".

I'm not too sure about the 8 ball shifter though, otherwise I think that this setup is okay.

Nice setup that you have there 👍 .

Nice setup that you have there 👍 .

Thanks much for the compliment.

Not as nice as many of the rigs posted here.

...but its pretty sturdy, easy to store, and I can quickly swap shifter sides to match car being driven.

Why thank you very much, JogoAsobi. I think?;)

I'm not too sure about the 8 ball shifter though, otherwise I think that this setup is okay.

WEeely????:guilty::guilty: But..but that really gives a nice feeling to the shifter:dopey:... and the only kind that does M9 Thread size, the Hurst and tremec knob are all M10s < but must admit they look better. however price is like $40 +20 shippping for a knob :nervous:lol. save that twice and buy another SLI-PRO:dopey::dopey:

Man... everytime I saw 80/20 rig, I felt like spending more money getting them, they just looks so good.
Hey Jogo, maybe do a mount next to your next rig like for side pod or something... you know like how ISR have their rSeat in the centre and wrapped arround by the magical 80/20 surrounding for peripherals.👍👍👍

If I go the full blown 80/20 rig route I intend to do that.
I am torn myself Marcus, between making a complete 80/20 rig or getting the HT base and adapting my seat to it.

Not that much cost difference if the 80/20 is done right with fully adjustable wheel deck and pedal rack.
They now make black anodized 80/20, so that is appealing as well. But I really like your HT setup.

My biggest reservation about HT was the astronomical price and the seat.
Personally I don't care for high bolstered non-adjustable seats, but the seat is no longer an impediment now.

Next step is to migrate to the Thrustmaster shifters, my metal-adorned plastic H-shifter snapped last weekend. I think Mayaman had same happen a few weeks ago too.

ah ic, if you paying the same money they get HR as it's all done , all setup for you nice and easi(er) option, might as well since you are spending the money. :)

And the ridiculous price for a black ball with a number 8 on it just makes me even more unsure about your setup  .

Dooblewasur
1 (one) Dualshock Three Controller
1 (one) Couch
1 (one) old flatscreen TV

…and we're good to go.

This I can't disagree with. we played with sticks till jan 2011.

However it's gets waaaaaaay better with a wheel. ;)

Absolutely loving the ingenious work here. Really makes you think who you are up against online, i had no idea there were so much custom rigs out there.

And here's another custom one, my hide away setup in my micro cave.

-Wheel. Fanatec CSR, carbon wrapped. Took some doing 1-2hrs but easier than first thought. aesthetically it looks great, but wheel still feels toy like in hand when 900 deg drifting. Not really content to settle yet. Thus I will be retrimming entire wheel soon in synthetic suede, will post pics then if it works :scared:
-Wheel stand created from a freebie adjustable tv stand, wheels & table removed, & reinforced with aluminum. Aluminum scooter deck mounts pedals to stand by threaded bar. Wheel stand clips onto to Ikea couch using a climbing carabiner clip to stop it sliding. Whole thing folds away to fit under a table in standing position.
-BenQ 27" LCD mounted to bookshelf on swing arm to fold away against wall. me & my wife live in a small rental apartment so only space is guest room/study, plus shes an interior designer so it all has to look respectable
-Solid mounted the 6sp shifter low. Improved the shifting pattern of the 6spd by cutting its little plastic internal H-pattern to accept faster shift.
-Reversed the sequential, better for ergonomics & moves the bottom connection away from you, increased knob height for greater throw (old pics thou doesnt show this)
-Elite Pedals. Ala Clubsport pedals V2, i used an RC car alloy shock absorber mounted to the brake pedal for increased resistance. Works as intended highly recommended easy mod :) filled with med-heavy 140W diff oil. Built additional wedges on brake & clutch to bring pedals forward by an inch each, for heal toe. Put a moveable bar to lock the clutch so it can be used as foot rest for long semi-manual races.

That's it. For now. Once i move house it will be a full PCV rig with a Datsun Z dashboard. Hope you enjoy these & get some inspiration yourself if you're still umming and ahhing about what to do

cheers for the support fellas, the recognition gives me a boost to do more fun mods. like where am i going to fit that homemade handbrake next on the list??

like most here i've caught the modding bug, perhaps a hangover from doing up cars. If i spent the same money on my rig as my past rides, the thing would be something like a tri-screened, frex hardware & motioned, sitting in a enclosed working cockpit, & powered by some kind of ridiculous epic gaming pc tower, with exhaust by a 7.1 surround. But thats why i got out of building cars! Plus i dont miss lying on concrete floors with skinned knuckles & brake fluid in my eyes..

if i wanted to spend the money, the right way to start would be with your rig Marcus, damn that thing is set up so nice around the GT3RS !

Yeah, I could have bought a real car with the money that I spent on my complete rig (computer and everything) but then I've got a crappy car that I can do what with? Drive to the grocery store? No, that costs gas money. Stare at it in my driveway? Ummmm cool I guess.

The "you could have bought a real car!" argument really bugs me, and it always comes from people who have never spent a day at a racetrack in their life. Racing is expensive, VERY VERY expensive, from age 5-17 (when I stopped racing) my father spent an estimated $400k on my racing endeavors, and we weren't even using the nicest gear and we were normally sleeping in our truck or toy hauler. People just don't understand what real racing actually takes.

Me spending an initial few thousand bucks (including 100% iRacing content with a 1yr membership) to startup a sim-racing hobby and then maybe a couple hundred bucks a year for membership fees, new content, new games, etc, is CHEAP......SUPER CHEAP.

It's obviously not as fun as real racing, but I still have a great time doing it.

Got you completely!! I am now 65 and run GT5 almost daily (usually late evening). When I was 18-22 I raced only a very little with completely foolishly low funds with no measurable success, and was taking life and limb in hand every time. Now I wouldn't have the physical capabilities to handle the work involved in just driving a quality car, let alone the danger factor to myself and anyone else on the track with me. So I put a few $ in a G27 and made a small rig (to be replaced later). People who don't play or have a passion for racing just don't get it. That's ok. I have less $ in my 80 Corvette and my sim set-up than most guys I know have in their boat or lawn mower.
