:odd: so your going to have 10 G5's total? That's a bit much for me. I'm fine with my 1 custom AMD, that's just insane. Some day i'll build me a top of the line (at that point in time) computer. My computer was outdated the moment it left shipping, hard to keep up.

When I went to college for PS, We were supposed to use some Mac's, with 22" screens. We were stuck with 1.6ghz slow (to me) computers, with 17"(small) monitors. We were also supposed to get the drawing tablets too. We were screwed out of some cool stuff.

I work for an advertising agency. We have 13 artists.

In addition to the now 10 dual G5s, I have an XServe, 17" Powerbook, 12" Powerbook, 17 Dual and Single G4 PowerMacs, a room full of old iMacs, a 17" iMac, a 23" Cinema Display, and a hand full of G3 iBooks.

Apple has the Creative industry by the balls.

Old equipment is quickly gobbled up by employees (:

 Can I have one? Please? Those things are incredibly quiet considering how many fans they have. I went to a local computer store and thought the G5 in the store was off when it wasn't.

Yeah, they're rather quiet ... until you start doing something and the fans kick on to cool the inferno processors. (:

Well, the Virginia Tech cluster was running special software so that a single appliication could be distributed to all of them. In addition to special software they had installed special networking eqiupment that ... basically connects them at the fastest speed currently possible. That's required for 'real time performance'.

At my agency ... no. They're a bunch of stand alone workstations. We do have a network and a few file servers, but applications don't borrow CPU time from other computer across the network. Sure would be cool though. There are times I'm sure one artist was wishing their filter would apply faster on their 800MB Photoshop document and another artist who happens to be out-to-lunch isn't doing anything with their computer. A bit of 'distributed rendering' would be really helpful.
