Preferred wheel for drifting?

There are a few types of wheels in the world of GT5:

Generic @ 270 degrees of turning (madcatz, other generic wheel)

Logitech @ 900 degrees of turning (DFGT, G27, Fantec 911)

Thrustmaster @ 1000 degrees of turning (T500)

Which would you prefer for drifting?

I think that, at the cost of general quality, a generic wheel at 270 degrees is best for me as you dont need to turn the wheel so much to get the desired amount of countersteer:idea:

I'm pretty sure most real drifters use a tighter steering ratio, i can't do the dfgt drift yet, the best I've done with the wheel is 3700 in the 61 jag etype on autumn ring mini, which is about equal with my ds3 mitsubishi i concept '03 drift LOL

I learned and drifted with 270 degrees for a year or two. It gets the job done, but you lack the subtle control you get with a 900 degree wheel.

I moved up to a DFGT and, even though I'm not as good as I was, it's way more fun.

A decent 900 degree wheel would be best, the T500 isn't worth it, even if the wheel was wrapped in unicorn leather.

Be warned though, I've broken two DFGTs despite taking great care of them, I would advise getting a G25 or G27 if you can find one for a reasonable price.

Hmmm, i'm pretty sure real drifters use tension rods, steering knuckles etc. to get the most steering they can.

They use smaller turning gears though. Im pretty sure d1gp cars are limited to 1080 degrees rotation.

I use a ds3 but the best wheel I actually used was a gamestop wheel with no force feedback but the seq shifter had a third slot on the left in the middle and it would act as the handbrake.

rods are more for go kart stuff, the are too tight of a turning mechanism and you would have to apply much more force to turn the cars, and you would feel every bump and crack in the track shaking the wheel (like a go kart... I did querter midgets for 6 years), and after a given amount of time, you'd get tired fast... that's one thing that is almost impossible to create in a sim, is tiredness unless that sim is full motion and which is why everyone complains of understeer in the game because they overshoot their corner and they don't get tired

But yes steering rods have much tighter steering than a gear ratio

Unless you are meaning something totally different.........................

900.

d1 guys prob use standard lock but if your good with the throttle and have the right castor it doesn't matter that much.

bmws have like 3.5-4 turns lock to lock or something lol and people seem to manage the nissans are around 2.5 lock to lock I think, Volvo 340 I had about 4 turns

I must admit when I started years ago with a g25 I thought WTF I can't use this much lock but you learn. gt5 is easy tbh.

what's with crazy rod stuff? lol steering box vs rack and pinion? (don't think pinion ratios are changed etc normally tho)

tension rods allow adjustable castor on the Nissans and remove a **** bush for a tasty ball joint, feels good.

some tein track rod ends give an instant lock boost and a stronger rod cause the nissans just snap if your low and hit something with lock applied

the modded knuckles allow you to lower the car withought putting strain on the rack ends and help keep geometry in spec after lowering + lock mods etc.

prob offset the rack too

after that gets a bit crazy and into some arch modding I imagine

Real cars have two and a half rotations, thats 1080 degrees not 900.

Time to redo basic math.
1 rotation. 360
2 rotation. 360
1/2 rotate 180
--------------
2.5 rot= 900

I have had many wheels and really the T500 is the best. Don't listen to the overpriced crowd, it's worth 4xDFGT's all day long. My 2cents
