Pro Japanese Drifters coming to US

This could be neat. But i hope it doesnt turn disastrous. as witnessed from other trends going on, I would hate for drifting to become so popular in the USA. It of course would be really cool if everyone were like the slide squad guys (or other true drifters that know what they are doing), but we all know because drifting is cool looking, it will attract everyones attention that we dont.

Once there are more exhibition drifting events in the USA I can see this happening:

Initial D is picked up by a cable channel or TV network. A magazine is started by rich old white guys that dont know crap about drfting called "driftingzzz yo!". A drfting f&f movie is made starring DMX and Ja rule. Every young punk now wants to be a drifter. The trend is now to scrap their "20"s, and put on 15" BBS mesh. We have civics ass dragging everywhere, or kids with SR20'd 240sx's that dont know how to handle the power in anything but a straight line. Over 100 die nationwide by killing themselves on public streets while trying drifting stunts. Over 50 are innocent bystanders.

I hope popularity of drifting in the USA plays out safer than this, but with my "95% of people are ****ing morons" theory, my prediction will probably be closely followed.
 
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... I really cant decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing. It could be good cause the scca might pick it up as a new style of racing. but, it could also be bad because of the that a lot of illegal drifting might happen.
 
Well, this is one of those events where it's legal to drift! YAY!!!! most people don't illegal drift...too risky on the streets. Drag racing and drifting both on the street is illegal. But at least when you drift you don't need $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on turbo and all that crap. It's just fun. SCCA is fun too.
 
advanR, it is just drifting. not a damn disease! god what the hell is wrong with you?! Drifting just a attractive way of driving. i am not saying you have to like it, but it is just drifting: a driving style. you act like drifting is aids and will kill everyone! Get some sense man! Drifting in it's simplest state is just a way a driving and skidding.

I never said anything was wrong with drifting.

I said stupid people would see it and try to emulate it on the street, killing themselves and others. Do you think this would actually be good?

Drifting is great. I just dont want poser fags exploiting it, or hurting others when they try to show off like morons.

Gee, through out this entire thread there is no ^_^'s or lolz. Heh. I agree with advanR. It may look cool but even before you try it you should research it and find out how to do it properly, instead of going out and doing it, sliding onto the footpath and running poor little Jimmy and his trike down.
 
every good thing has its down fall. Like imports, I mean when I started with my Civic imports weren't big around here and everyone thought my car was cool. I never said it was fast cause well it wasn't at all. It was more show then anything. Then The Fast and the Furious craze hit and thats when rice mobiles got huge here. Not the good imports like mine was but cars with useless **** on them like huge wings, tips, underbodies and other stuff. That was the downfall of the Import scene right there.

The same will happen will happen with the drift scene. The drifters here in the USA now will be over run with wanna be's and it will ruin everything for them. They shouldn't even make a big deal about drifting cause like I said thats how things get ruined.
 
exactly my point. i swayed against buying a 240sx for that reason. 240sx's were hated by the import crowd before because they thought they were ugly and had only 150hp. Then mags started showing Sr swapped s14s with S15 front end conversions. Now everyone is getting 240s just to put the JDM front ends on them.

dumb people always ruin it for everyone else.

One of the reasons i bought an early M3. They are pretty damn rare, and because they dont have much power, most of the "euro DTM" crowd would rather have a VW or something. Not many people know of them. And i hope it stays like this for a while. If I ever see an M3 with a fart can and altezza lights i will sell mine immediately. Its sad that others can effect my car chioces so much, but i dont want to be associated with any of that BS.
 
Ya thats why I sold the Eclipse, mostly because kids started buying them and making them stupid looking and I was automatically put into that group of people. I didn't want to be so I sold the car.
 
Why would you sell your car because of what others are doing to their own cars?

If I ever see a GS300 with altezza's, or a Trans Am on dubs with neon underbody lights...will I sell my cars? Fock no! Will I laugh at those people, and laugh where they can see me, and know wtf I'm laughing at? Absofreakinlutely.


The only reason, streetracer, why you were put into that group was probably because of that God awful whale tail wing on that Eclipse.:P
 
its actually a supra style wing, but yea. hahahaha.

I will probably never sell my M3. But if it gets bad enough, i might think about it. M3s now are quite cheap, for a very reliable, sweet looking BMW. They are also incredible track cars. One thing I am happy about it is that it has a 195hp 4cylinder engine. The engine is damn awesome, but draggers and street racers would conisder it weak. It is the perfect motor for the twisties. It also doesnt have an incredibly high power potential. There are no turbo kits made for the car. The way to get tons of power out of it is to bore it out to the european evolution 2.5 specs. A tuned 2.5 could make as much as 300hp about. Sweet as hell for a road racer, but weak by dragger standards.

It may not be enough reason to sell my car, but it is definately something to think about when you are looking for a car to buy. I dont think I would enjoy owning a 240 as much with all of the other kids driving them.
 
ya that wing was pretty bad wasn't it. Got me why the hell I didn' t remove the damn thing.

Also around here if your considered a ricer you get your car messed up. Like this kid at school had a nice looking civic. No big wing or anything. It was a nice clean show car. But some kids that hated ricers beat the **** outta him and took pry bars to the Civic.

I was afaird that would happen to me and I didn't want that.
 
hahaha, thats what we need!!

an enforcment team to stop this crap from happening. If it helped you think twice about ricing out your eclipse, it would probably work for other kids too.

I think the bottom line is that people shouldn't be handling cars in ways that they don't know how to. If you've done your research, if you've had practice where you can't hit someone/thing, if you make the proper safety precautions, then whatever it is you're doing (whether it be racing or drifting) should be absolutely fine. If you neglect any of these factors, then don't do it. Simple as that. ;)
 
Streetracing, and drifting on public streets, is already outlawed.:odd: In the US at least.:odd:
