Maybe I'm being confuzzled because last couple of years the IMSA YouTube upload was the Fox Sports coverage (announcers, etc.). I don't access the TV too much, but I haven't seen much from the last part of the season. Hmmm.

Unless they reduce the prices compared to the last GS car everyone will want a Porsche Cayman instead which is half the price and comes with Porsche Support.

In two threads now.

The problem with GT4 is that is straddles the line between GT racing and production car racing...

Not really, very little can be changed on these cars and weight reduction is at a minimum in race car standards, so the cars will weigh close to the production version of what ever it is, and power will be restricted according to that.

The way around it though is to make the car the GT4 is based on most like a race car, kind of like a Much slower more policed version of 90s GT1(If it gets massive that's probably the way it will go, since unlike GT3 the model it's based on is a Massive deal).

(*looks at other thread*) Ah... My bad. Thought it was more appropriate for this thread. I still think of GT4 as being more production based that the other GT regs. ...Ignoring the pseudo - prototype Sins and KTMs, that is...

I agree actually. I only posted it over there because of the quote from before, but I probably should have just transferred the quote to this thread and posted the news. No big deal.

Why not both? *jokes*

GT4 cars fit in the "GT" thread, but these are pretty close to production. I probably mentioned in the GT thread, when GT4 started, the cars didn't have GT wings or front canards. I think that is all that has changed, outwardly.

Yeah, this...

SO much better than this...

For a short while that was darn near Continental...until the GT4 specs (which I think will ultimately be good) we had a lot of excellent GS category machinery racing (Mustangs, Camaros, BMW, Porsches, Aston's, etc.). The GS category took a real dump over the past two years, sadly.

I don't think you could do too much with something like the challenger/charger though. The mustang is already big and heavy compared to the Porsche and it's the smallest/lightest of the Challenger/Camaro/Mustang I think.

Well, a series which replaced Trans-Am/NASCAR wouldn't be endurance. It'd have to be a single driver smedium length race.

Chevy and Dodge should come along with similar spec cars and then start a new series, because this is what Trans Am should be. Not the NASCAR-like crap we have now...

As much as I agree, Dodge doesn't appear to be interested in racing at the moment, so I don't think we'll see anything from them anytime soon. But there is a GT4 Camaro, so we're 2/3rds of the way there. :)

2016 IPRA (Improved Production Racing Australia) Nationals are at Phillip Island this weekend with live coverage on youtube.

Under 2L heat 1:

Over 2L A&D heat 1 (video also has a GT3 after the IPRA heat):

More to come on that youtube channel through the weekend.

I dont know why we haven't got authentic GT3 factory efforts with these 3 cars, we've seen semi GT3 efforts with the Sareni Camaro and the Marc VDS Mustang,

Honestly, I couldn't say why there aren't any real GT3 efforts from brands in the States, other than maybe they don't want to get involved. The Camaro and Marc VDS Fords, and even the Callaway Corvette GT3s (which are amazing!), were very much privateer efforts, and never really took off. Could be that the manufacturers aren't interested in that direction, especially if you consider that Corvette and Ford have full scale GTE teams.

I suppose Cadillac's GT3 program is technically a factory team, but they don't seem interested in racing outside of the PWC, which is a shame, quite frankly. And in my personal opinion, the current Ford GT will never be a GT3 car. However, the GT4 Mustang may be a beginning for something with Ford in the future (GT3 based on a Shelby GT500???) Here's to hoping that GM at least follows Ford with a new GT4 Camaro in the near future.

And Dodge is... well... A Dodge Caravan Hellcat might be more likely than a GT3/4 program. :D

I don't think GM really wants to go through the hassle of setting up a proper support program which would explain why there are so few customer teams across their sportscar program.

I think if the GT4 Mustang program is successful we could see a GT3 version in the future, but it's always hard to say with Ford.

Chrysler gave GT3 a go and failed to support it properly so the whole thing collapsed. Which is actually fairly surprising considering both Ferrari and Maserati seem to have good customer programs.

Actually yes IIRC, one just got announced earlier this year.
Very cool 👍 I was actually just thinking, is there a list somewhere of all the current GT4 cars? I can think of

Mercedes
Porsche
BMW (if you're correct)
McLaren
Aston Martin
Maserati
Mustang
Ginetta
KTM
Sin
Lotus

There's probably some I'm missing. But that's a very healthy list! A Camaro would be great, and I think a BRZ/GT86, and maybe a Gallardo would really complete the field :).
