It more or less was last year, particularly in ST. The field was maybe 30-40% Caymans and the GS class was half Porsches.

Any word on why the ST count was so low at the Roar? I find the lack of Mazdas, in particular, surprising. ...and sad.

Unless the teams aren't ready for the race I have no idea...it'll be a sad season for ST if they roll around with 8-9 cars. I'd have assumed all of the Mazda teams would have jumped to Caymans or awaited the newer Mazda (they were racing the old body style through last year).

I get the feeling throwing around the idea of TCR for 2018 had some teams either worried, or not sure what to do for the future. No point in developing a car that's going to be unusable in a year when they could just buy the spec'd car for the next season. Sad if that is the case.

TCR is supposed to be in addition to what is already there, making a 3rd class. I'm not a fan of the TCR cars, so I don't really care to be honest. I just checked, the last race of 2016 there were 24 ST cars. Only 8 or 9 registered for the Roar, so roughly 15 cars just picked up and left.

I may have said this in this thread before, I love TCR International, but the cars don't belong in ST. I'd be more okay with it if the two existed side by side with each other, so we'd have 3 classes in the Conti series. Reason is, while I don't have a data sheet in front of me, I'm pretty sure that the TCR cars are a lot faster than the current ST cars. So something major is going to change within a year or so.

The Conti ST cars, what class would they fit into in PWC, my guess is TCA?

I think I've asked this about the GT3 cars, but what would be the difference in cost, and difference in actual seat time on the racetrack, between Conti and PWC?

The SCCA will be making a new "TCR" class for the TCR cars.

I meant that, if I'm someone with a car that can race in Conti ST, and I wanted to quit Conti and go to PWC, what class would my ST car fit into? Im wondering whether the ST cars would fit into either TC or TCA. I'm coming from the angle that some of the missing teams from the roar are just going to run their cars in PWC this year, as it's probably significantly cheaper (while not havif to split driver time). I think a lot of teams are sitting on what they have, and are waiting for all this TCR stuff to pan out.

For my own clarification. IMSA will run TCR cars in 2018 as part of the Conti series, as its own class, bringing the field to 3 classes in total. PWC will run TCR cars in 2018 as the lead class in their TC catagory, with TCA being a top Amateur class, and TCB remaining mostly the same as it is currently. Is that all correct?

I tweeted out a couple days ago asking where the Mazdas were and Freedom Autosport replied saying they'll be fielding 3 mazdas again. They just didn't go to the roar.
I figured that too, but someone else said that if they didn't participate at the Roar that they couldn't race in the season.

Super Taikyu stepping it up. Adding TCR & GT4 classes

The Super Taikyu series holds the annual awards ceremony of the 2016 series on the 13th. This is newly contested in TCR provisions vehicle from 2017. Among " ST-R class ", "is contested in the FIA-GT4 vehicle ST-Z class was announced that newly established".

TCR is, the aim of "building of a new touring car pyramid", and the center of the Marcello Lotti, which was once led the WTCC World Touring Car Championship Categories made by members who made it. It is contested by vehicles that have undergone unique performance adjustment with reference to GT 3 in sports cars, and it has gained popularity all over the world including low cost.

The GT 4 is a category that draws attention from the situation that the GT 3 category has been accelerated in recent years and the hurdles for the Gentleman driver are getting higher.

Harumi Kuwayama secretary general of super durability to add classes that are using these increasingly powerful vehicles explains the reason that "Super durability has a desire to line up overseas's famous endurance race" .

In addition, the annual awards ceremony, quickly TCR provisions of the Audi RS3 domestic introduced Audi Japanalso appeared parties. " Super GT said that in the same way as, plans to go the generous support, such as the supply of spare parts at the circuit."

Since ST - X / ST - 1 to 5 classes so far are also continued, super durability of this season will be contested for a maximum of 8 classes.

Well that was a bit sudden now wasn't it?!
Dunno why Dagys put out the article now, it's been known for a few weeks.

The reason GS dropped like a rock the past few years comes from a few things. Factories developing cars WAY outside the "spirit" of the rules and then refusing to sell them(for example, when Mantella went to the Z28.R, they had to buy the entire CKS team, as GM wouldn't sell them their own Z28.R's), and the difficulty and expense to develop a brand new car from an electronics standpoint(been told by team owners that it would cost a LOT more to build a new GS/ST model from scratch than to buy and compete in a GT4/TCR car). They all love the new format, as there are no longer developmental costs they have to eat. Buy a car, buy a spares package, and get to the track.

@R1600Turbo or anyone else, can you please explain the Pirelli World Challenge classes to me? I'm finding it difficult to follow unless it looks like a GT3 car,

Think of it this way:
  • GTS is similar to CTSCC GS (GT4 regs)
  • TC is similar to CTSCC ST
  • They also have TCA and TCB which use much lower class cars, such as the Mazda 2, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, etc.

Pirelli World Challenge consists of 3 seperate series. PWC GT, PWC GTS, and PWC TC.

GT is the big boys, and consists of 3 classes - GT, GT-Am, and Porsche Cup pres by Momo. GT and GT-Am us GT3 cars, and the Porsche Cup uses cup cars.

GTS is basically GT4, and as far as I know, is a single class series.

TC is Touring Cars, and consists of 3 classes. TC is the top class, and consists of car like those seen in CTSCC ST class. Next is TCA, which is like ST but with even less power and downforce. Finally is TCB, which is your entry level series, consisting of FWD bubble hatches like Honda Fits, Mazda 2, and Chevy Volt.

There's also another PWC series called Sprint X, but I havent quite figured that one out yet.

Sprint X has GT (GT3), GT Cup and GTS (GT4) running at the same time. It also has races that are 60 minutes instead of 50 and a mandatory pit-stop with a driver change.

I hope one day we get a sprint series out of the GT4s, i know it has GT in the name but it's basically production spec Touring cars, it would make a good touring car series.

That's pretty much what PWC GTS is though, isn't it? 50 minute sprint race, no pit stops.
The old Optimas? They stopped racing when GTS went to GT4 regs.
is GTS full GT4 regs now? Because in 2016 you still had the Camaro and Mustangs in there, and they're not GT4. No idea if they'll be allowed in 2017 though.

PWC spec cars are eligible through 2017, '18 will be the first full GT4 year.

But the layout is more modern GT style with Multi class, I understand touring cars back in the day had that but im talking more of a modern spin to it.
