Project CARS 2 Demo Arrives on all Major Platforms

Worth a go. Tried the first game but kept getting motion sickness for some reason. Don’t have this issue on GTS.

How big is the download?

I tried the demo on the PS4 Pro last night, and I was very impressed by the results, especially the controller inputs which is a MASSIVE improvement over pCARS 1 (much more responsive.) Now that I traded in my original XB1 for the One S, I wonder which console I should get pCARS 2 on?

The PS4 Pro or the XBox One S? Hmmm...

:)

Oh speaking of graphics, I say the game looks great. Looks shouldn't be the main thing when it comes to racing simulators such as this one.

No brainer. PS4 Pro. Unless you mean Xbox One X?

Nah, One S. Didn't have enough money to get the One X.

In short. I traded in both the original PS4 and Xbox one for the two new editions.
In that case go with PS4 Pro for sure. It will be much better looking and with more consistent frame rate, especially once patch 3.0 drops.

I just got a PS4 version myself so I can play it from the couch when I can’t get on my VR PC (usually most of the time haha).

Now people can find out for themselves with demo that this game handles awkward with the controller in some cars and the graphics are near terrible.

My wheel was lifeless without Jack Spades setups, still haven’t found something that puts it in the handling realm of the other more established PC sims.

Weather and standing water are a lot of fun, plus pretty good VR support.

Are there AI setttings?

Damn.. are we still relying on Jack spade for settings? Ffb was one of my biggest gripes on pc1...too much time wasted on it.

Funny thing is I just fired up my PS4 and the demo was nowhere to be found on the store. I even did a search. Is it not on the U.S. store?

I see it on the web version of the PS store for the U.S. You can start the download from there.
Thanks, downloading now. Its a shame they couldn't fork over the cash to get their demo featured in the actual demo section of the store with the other demos. Sounds like someone isn't turning a profit.

Downloaded the PC Demo, played for somewhere 90-120 minutes tonight. Some impressions in no particular order. I quite enjoyed it, was planning on picking it up anyway but getting to test it first didn't change that. So I hope I don't sound too negative.

I don't think I changed any graphics settings from whatever it defaulted to, I saw some things were on Medium at least. It played smooth although I don't get bothered by 30FPS(which it seemed locked to) like some people do. More than I can say for the Forza 7 demo, that stuttered all over the place with half the track missing even when turning the graphics settings down below autodetect. And pCARS 2 even recognizes my aging GT3RS V2 which is also more than I can say for the Forza demo. For some reason it didn't seem to be centered quite correctly though, even after I checked the Fanatec software it was still crooked in game after 2 calibrations, I had to cheat the centerpoint on the wheel itself to drive straight.

FFB wasn't too bad, a little weaker than I might want but seemed to be telling me what it was supposed to tell me instead of just going numb all the time like PC1 did with base settings. I wasn't sure which mode was really the best though. Would obviously need to do some testing to find what I prefer all around, as you'd expect.

The sounds themselves sound good, but I had some issues with the mix. Lamborghini's engine was so loud I couldn't hear literally anything else, even at near idling. Might be realistic but with only one screen you need to hear the other cars a little. Setting player engine noise to 50% helped some. The Renault was better. The Ferrari was probably about the same as the Lamborghini but that had a very very loud noise which I assumed to be water noise, although it sounded more like crowd noise and sounded just as bad on the dry line as in the wet.

Replay sound was utterly awful, will make replays completely unsuitable for simple viewing as entertainment. I think the lack of any sort of spatial variation in the sound is pretty well known by now, but I really hope that gets fixed.

The depth-of-field blur from helmet cam is still completely worthless and nothing like what you would ever experience in real life, particularly the bit about not being able to see your mirrors, and the bit about the car in front of you becoming a blurry mess, and the bit about things becoming super blurry at low speed and then popping back into focus as you accelerate(usually right at the instant you shift). Seemed pretty much exactly like pCARS1 and will similarly be quickly turned off forever. Otherwise helmet cam is great, and the awful sloooooow laaaazzzyy turn when looking side to side to check traffic around you is fixed. Much more usable because of that change. I couldn't see the rev lights on the wheel in the single seater but that's not a huge deal.

Driving the cars felt quite good, everything that happened seemed to happen for an understandable reason. Dealing with the car after it started to get loose felt far better and more understandable than the first game. The evolving track in the Ferrari race was quite enjoyable, although I would have expected to at least occasionally get a little understeer depending on how I hit puddles instead of always getting massive oversteer. I also would have expected wet grass to feel different from dry grass.

Headlights should probably illuminate things in front of you, instead of just lighting up your dashboard and putting some sparkly things on the front of your car. Not sure if this was related to graphics settings or if they just don't do anything during the day now.

Not having my lap time displayed on the HUD anywhere seems a rather baffling decision. Not much info is more basic and expected than that. I'd prefer to have gaps to the cars around me instead of having to do math based on our relative positions to the overall leader at 100mph too. Didn't check to see if that could be changed. It was nice having the throttle and brake telemetry on the standard HUD(my brake sometimes gives me problems so it's nice to be able to check it now and then).

AI only attempted to drive through me as if I wasn't there once. For the most part they were pretty well behaved, and didn't go flying off the track at the slightest bump or scare. It did seem that they slowed down excessively after some minor contact though. Tough to judge them on their speed as I was just fiddling, not at all dialed in, and they are unadjustable. Probably set to be slow in the first race, medium in the second, and fast in the third, which is about how it felt. Or they are just really good in the wet. I've heard they are unaffected by puddles, which is exactly what I saw. For some reason the AI cars in the Lamborghini race didn't come to the pits on the cooldown lap but in the others they did.

Pitting in on the cooldown lap, the game told me that the pit limiter was engaged in the Renault and Ferrari even when it wasn't. Was correct in the Lamborghini. Still loving being able to drive the cooldown laps and in the pits though, that's a huge plus. Can the giant box that tells you "THIS IS THE COOLDOWN LAP" be turned off? It isn't really useful. I think most anybody that turns that on is going to be well aware of what is going on, especially when the bots start driving at 60mph.

I know, I know, I should just change my name to TL;DR :)

PC2 demo set to 'enhanced visuals' vs Pre-Demo build on PS4 Pro.

Sounds like wild speculation, as I downloaded it from the PSN store demo section in Europe.

Its more likley that this is a PSN issue in the US.

Where is the time that demo's comes before the final game...? Really strange trend.
I imagine, if the game doesn't look and/or play well for some reason it benefits the developer not to release a demo. Unfortunately, many games these days are littered with bugs and other issues when they're released. A demo of such would probably have a negative impact on early game sales.

Often said (by you), never shown (by you).

I do however await the latest massive attempt to re-write physics to suit your own agenda.

and the graphics are near terrible.
Are the graphics as good as some of the competition? Nope.

However its hardly finger-painted now is it.

Its a compromise that many, many people can live with given that it provides a higher level of physics fidelity, better FFB, Live Track 3.0 and a whole lot more.

Oh and cut out the flame-bait posts, the best you can hope for is them being deleted.

Looking nice and crisp. Sounding good too. Hope is the same on the PS4 console.

my only actual problem in the demo was the sound.
all cars i drove sounded too high pitched and really just noisy instead of a clear sound to identify.
also the sound in the replays was just a cacophony, it just destroys the fun of watching your own work,
aside from that i found that the ffb and overall physics were quite nice. graphics wise its not as nice as GTS and Forza 7 but on the other hand it offers dynamic time of day, some nice weather effects and that live track 3.0 which i think is really cool to have and of course you then take some cuts into graphics. overall: 7,5/10

For me the most important thing is whether or not the Edit Tune/Saving thing-a-mih-jig, track/weather and car handling issues and other issues we've been having have been fixed. I've never really had issues with graphics and sound per se but what I've mentioned is most important to me for better enjoyment of the game itself.

I withstand playing each car for approximately of 3 minutes before I deleted it completely. Hand movements are absurdly choppy, graphics look just terrible and crazy dark somehow, I don't like sounds (except shifting, that is better than GTS). I drove the cars with T300RS and also tried DS4, which has the same choppy steering issues as pCARS1.

However, I am glad they made available this demo. I was thinking of buying this game too often.

When I launched GTS after pCARS2 I was so happy. So so happy.

Tried it with the DS4 last night, & I have to concur with others who've said that the controller feels great with this game. SMS have done a very good job in making it less twitchy, still not on par with GT, but not that far off. However, the graphics look poor for a PS4 game, P CARS 1 looked way better imho. Too much aliasing for my liking, low res textures, & the awful spray that seems to be running at 6FPS. Will try it out with my G29 sometime later on today & see how that feels.
