That is my sentiments exactly, the surprise is the cars you wanted to drive are only available if you pay extra. Why advertise that?
Beacuse silly and manipulative pre-order culture.

I'm seriously getting sick and tired of developers/publishers chunking out content just to offer it as pre-order bonuses or making them part of Whatever Editions of their games and then once again offer them as DLC down the line. This is the sole reason why I haven't bothered pre-ordering or buying day one since two years back. Looks like the trend will continue.

From most anticipated game to ''pick it up at some point''. Well done.

I only pre-ordered it so that I can show interest in the U version. After all, it's free.

Well, I m afraid it is. Or on disc or whatever. For the record: We members were not informed of this.
Living in England for the past 14 years I've found the best way to address a problem is to write a polite letter of complaint, so I will write a letter!

That is a letdown, that's gaming in 2014 for you. Was hoping for it to be a wheel announcement so I can finally but it :(

So much for transparency? Is there any (major) backlash on the WMD forums regarding this? Most seem to think that it's ....... cracking.

The only people I feel for in this whole debacle are the backers. Hopefully all of the folks that backed the development receive the goodies free of charge.

For everyone else, what do you expect? Although day one DLC is a sad occurrence I'm past the point of being upset about it when it happens. If they release the game they're touting and it's relatively bug-free at launch I'd pay double the asking price for 12+ months of racing bliss.

The only bit about this news that slightly irks me is the lack of Digital LCE. I'd prefer to purchase this with a code in the box rather than the disc. If not that, let me pre-order the Digital LCE with the extra cars and they can keep the fancy box/booklet. Hopefully either of these options will be made available in the near future.

I'm more interested in digital version I can download from PS Store as is much more convenient if you want to keep playing for some time. Just like I did with BF4, no hassle with blu-ray disc.

Yes there is a major backlash, I doubt anyone cares though.
I guess the only way they'd change their mind would be, if a crapton of members want their money back if this won't be changed. But I don't think enough will have the guts for that.

This sucks. I read it as in we would get early access to these cars rather than actual DLC...

Quickest pre-order cancellation in history from me.

Will hold back and see where this leads.

Welp. Aren't these things supposed to be discussed within the community before going public with the decisions made anyway?

Not bad .. $50 if your pre-order from amazon or best buy... already $10 less than I was expecting to pay for a brand new ps4 game.

They would gladly hand you back your money. They don't need our money anymore. The game is all but done as far as they are concerned from a funds standpoint.

What bothers me is I'd have to wait for couple of days to get the package from Germany Amazon, while i'd play it on steam on release day, but without all cars. Unless they ship it earlier...

Steam pre-order bonus is what I'd go for. Will wait till autum

I've put my tuppence into the ring, I disagree with the what they have done, and more specifically, the way they have done it. Don't get me wrong, the cars are not exactly essential to the career mode (even if some of them are included in the invitational events, iirc), but I dislike the tiering system it will create, particularly online when you find lobbies that will have the BMW M1 Procar, non-LE players may be able take part, especially if the lobby host locks the lobby down. In fact, I'll ask that in the thread (although I know I'm not going to get an answer).

They can't even be bothered to clarify anything to anybody over on the W.M.D. website.
That's because everyone was suppose to jump for joy and start throwing their money at them. Who else has 3 days of hype for a preorder? They wasn't prepared for people to call BS.

Tried tweeting them but they found it more fitting to direct someone to the loaction of where to pre-order from.

Priorities. :P

I'll be looking for answers on two things before I decide on my purchase plan. We have plenty of time so hopefully they release some details in the coming weeks.

5 LCE cars. Are these merely special liveried versions of cars made available to everyone?

Modified Car Pack. Same question, are these special liveried versions of cars made available to everyone?

If I can purchase a standard digital version and use these cars in their normal kit I'll gladly do without the special race series, box, and booklet.

I take that as a given. Tiers from Team Member and up wil have access to exclusive cars according to the tools & perks plan (ref.). We'll see...

We don't know that it' will be a day one DLC. In fact I doubt it. It has been suggested that this content should be made available some time after release, something which I support and am arguing for over at WMD.

In all this outrage, I want to add that we always knew that some content would be DLC (surprise...), and the LE/preorder thing can be seen as a way of celebrating the project by making some of that available early to enthusiasts. I get what the critics say, it's just that like you, I'm past the point of being upset about that part of games releases. I don't necessarily like or prefer it, it's just not a very big deal to me, and I'm much more concerned with the actual game being good. And I want that LE Metal Box...

Edit: Things are unfolding quickly at WMD, and the devs have now stepped up and given us more information. I can't quote directly or give exact details, but I'll let the following be known:
  1. The LE/preorder thing may be more complex than just SMS doing it for kicks, there are business partners and contractual obligations involved.
  2. It is SMS' intention to NOT inconvenience the members by unduly denying them expected content. The resolution of this relates to the point above.
  3. It has been said that this content is made available to LE/pre-order customers first (I offer no interpretation of that...).
  4. The devs have registered the reactions, positive and negative, and we will be given more information, although it may take some time (ref. first point again).
