I don't love ducks that much.

EDIT: Ubuntu Feisty Fawn is now officially PS3 compatible.

Free Virtual Console, here I come!

Hopefully a wireless driver will be created soon. Its the only thing keeping me from bothering with the install right now. I'm not switching the network cable from the 360 to the PS3 every time I want to use Ubuntu. I'll upgrade to Feisty Fawn in a month or so on my PCs, though, to make sure there aren't any serious bugs.

Edit: I'd really love for someone to make an application that would allow you to use the SIXAXIS as the only input device. I know that Bluetooth isn't supported yet, either, but I'd be willing to use a USB cable.

Had a bash at GT4 last night and it's pretty jerky in the loading screens, plus the intro music was crackly... in-game, however, it runs smoother (again, except for loading screens) and there is also a rather annoying square (quite large, over an inch) flickers in the top-left hand corner of the screen when you are racing. Also, some of the text appears slightly blurry at first when it appears on the screen... so it's far from perfect, but I wonder if you can create as many GT gamesaves as you want on your virtual memory cards?? That could be handy...

---

Also, I have noticed one or two odd things have happened when using my PS3 in the last few days. Twice in the last three days, I've attempted to switch on the console from Stand-By by pressing the I/O button and the console comes 'on' (green/blue lights appear, telly screen goes black) but then nothing happens. I have to switch the console off at the back and then back on again, then it works. Also, once after closing the web browser while a page was (not) loading, the system effectively froze... I was back out in the XMB, but the little white circle in the top right to indicate a page loading etc. was still pulsing away, but I coudln't so anything but switch the console off at the back... Similarly, last night I put a DVD into the console, the screen went black and the system hung again, meaning another switch off was required :indiff: Seems like there are a few bugs creeping in...

I don't think this is the best time to say it, but most of the times, buying the first generation of a product isn't the best of ideas.

Sorry to hear that your having issues TM, I had a feeling you were playing around with GT4 last night as I kept seeing you sign in and out :) .

I agree on the text in GT4 being a little blurry, but I don't get any flickering squares in game. I tried all my GT series last night as well (including TT which appeared fine) and the only one that didn't work was the BMW 1-series demo (no great loss with that), and I am looking forward to replaying some of them from scratch.

Regards

Scaff

Im having the same issues as TM. I wonder if this new update 1.70 will fix this?

Can't say I'm pleased to hear that, Sprite, but atleast it's not just my console playing up... I installed the update yesterday and the DVD-hang happened some time after the install :indiff:

Agreed, I guess we must expect these things.

Mine also did a strange thing the other day, it had been sat idle on the main XMB screen for about 15 minutes and I decided to turn it off, but after pressing the button on the PS3 unit itself it started to shut down but then Beeped twice and the just hung, black screen and nothing els, so I had to do a Hard boot (switch at back) and its been fine since then, Ive also noticed that some times the little icons that represent videos, games and photos in their respective sections dont load and will just show a rotating pair of arrows, and they stay like this for along time, but other than that ive not seen anything els.

My friend has had quite a few problems with his tho, nothing like what we are experianceing, but his froze mid way through BD playback and also on startup and shutdown. But hard boot and all seems fine.

^ That's happened to me a couple of times before. You would turn it off, and it would bleep twice and not turn off. But I've noticed it's sometimes whenever you turn it off with the TV turned off first that does it...

yes this is what I did, what could be the link, are you using HDMI?? Ive got it straight into the back of the TV via HDMI, I may go down now and see if this is the case. and post my findings.

While I would normally agree, this isn’t always the case, and even the best designed 5th gen products will still have a percentage of units that will experience unique “glitches”.

Besides, technically speaking, the Euro PS3 isn't a 1st gen product.

That said, over four months ago I bought the "1st gen" 60 GB PS3, which was one of the 400,000 PS3 first shipped to the US. I have not experienced a single glitch, other than known ones that affected all users and were mostly fixed via updates.

Now if I am a unique case, that would be one thing, but looking on the PS forums and this one, it appears by all accounts that only a VERY small percentage of users have experienced any unique glitches. Especially when compared to all the reported problems from XB360 owners, which are still happening now, despite supposedly not being a 1st gen product any more.

That said, it's unfortunate TM is having some problems with his particular unit, but we can expect that to happen to a percentage of all products, even a 5th gen Toyota Lexus. I can't think of any mass market consumer product where every single unit produced will be 100% glitch free.

If only 1% of all PS3 have some problems perhaps due to a bad chip somewhere on the circuit board, that means even then, 30,000 users are going to have some problems. In this case, unfortunately it appears TM is one of those unlucky few.

Personally, I wouldn't wait for an update in hopes it might fix your isolated issues. The problem is likely a hardware issue due to a “bad” chip or circuit. Considering how recently you bought it, I would recommend returning it and getting a new unit rather than hassle with trying to fix what ever unique glitches may be plaguing your particular PS3.

Maybe... I'll certainly be keeping a close eye on the situation. Have to say, however, that it has only misbehaved on a small number of times in the 3 weeks or so I've had the unit, but if it gets any worse, I'll consider returning it...

er... but 1st generation products are more likely to have bugs/glitches than a 5th generation one... that's what I was referring to

I was only clariffying that not all 1st gen products have higher percentages of glitches and that the PS3 appears to be one of those fortunately well designed 1st gen products - and that technically the Euro PS3 isn't 1st gen. :)

When you say AV cables do you mean the ones that came with the PS3? Is your PS3 PAL? And what about games, are they black and white?

Yes the cables that came with the PS3. It's a european-PS3. My games play like they are supposed to, WITH colour. The whole film is black and white when I play it, not only the intro.

(Btw, I received a second BD of Casino Royale today, don't know why :P)

The system its self works fine, games movies. These issues can be resolved though software. PS2's DRE and 360's ring of death can't be fixed via update.

Yay I just hooked up my HDMI cable today and it set itself up as soon as I plugged it in, no more of that switching cables before your 30 seconds runs out crap for me... $8.00 isn't bad for several feet of cable either:) I would imagine at least some of these problems TM is experiencing with the graphics may have to do with the emulator which hopefully will be updated constantly as it already has somewhat

Hmm, maybe a setting on the XMB? You should see the film fine on composite. Have you tried any others? Not that I think the disc is faulty. But it's elimination all the same. Something does'nt sound right.
You could try getting a SCART lead or an S-Video of your TV takes and try again. But I must say unless there's a setting in the BD ROM XMB option it could be a fault!:nervous:

No, PS3 was never the lead platform. The lead platform has ALWAYS been PC, which is why the port to 360 was so simple. I'm telling you all now, it'll suck on PS3, I have little faith in Codemasters as a developer when it comes to eerily complex hardware and their first forray at it.

You must have been thinking Burnout 5 when you were thinking lead platform.

Duck... didn’t you even read the first line in the article?

This news does not come as a surprise.
And for someone who does so much research, why didn't you already know that the PS3 wasn't its lead platform.

Please, you are smarter than this. Don't play dumb just to try and make the PS3 look like they "lost" an important lead title.

Your "news reports" twisted to constantly make the PS3 look bad are not only getting predictable, but rather tiresome as well.

I may have to do what you do and play Devil's Advocate in your precious XB360 forums with all the latest news on; the latest round of reports on even more Red Ring of Deaths; pathetic ported games for the XB360 with lousy gameplay, graphics, and audio; Game delays; Ridiculously over-priced XB360 add-ons; Microsoft’s plans on how they are going to continue to get their user base to keep buying newer versions of an outdated console, and what a rip-off their "Microsoft Points" system is and how it fools consumers into thinking they aren't spending as much as they really are, and soooo much more.

Honestly, you REALY do not want me to do in the XB360 forum what you do here in the PS3 forum. There is far more negative ammunition against the XB360 and Microsoft then you’ll ever dig up for the PS3 and Sony. So far I’ve played nice, and have barely touched on only a few real XB360 issues, but in a console format war pissing contest, the XB360 is going to lose badly.

You can no longer legitimately use the excuse of trying to balance all the PS3 hype, because quite frankly, there is very little of it being spread on this board.

If you are just trying to get under Jeremy Ricci's skin, please just send him PMs with these little "news reports", I'm sure it will be just as effective.

Well, it looks like another game gives the PS3 the shaft. Wasn't this supposed to have the PS3 as its lead platform?

Reguardless of whether or not PS3 was supposed to be its lead platform, I am disappointed. All of the previews of this game have looked amazing, and i was very much looking forward to this. And in October, I wont be thinking about this game because GTA IV comes out.

Honestly though, I cant wait until all of this porting crap is over. Im tired of games always being made for the 360 first and then ported over in a half-hearted manner. Ill just be glad when "codemasters" figure out how to properly use the PS3s power.

On a side note, has anyone downloaded the Tekken Dark Resurrection game for the ps3 yet? One of my friends bought this game for PSP recently, and we have been doing a lot of game-sharing in first period. Thus, Im itching for a good fighting game, but I really don't want to pay 60 bucks for VF5.

Fear has proven again that ports will forever suck on PS3. Maybe not forever but its like they don't even try.. I just hope EA stays true to Burnout being the lead platform.

CMR has a poor frame rate now on 360, imagine the slide show it will be on PS3.

I only trust multiplatform games from Sega, 2K games/Take Two, Namco and maybe Activision since Ultimate Alliance wasn't bad in any way for PS3 IMO.

Tekken 5 DR is good for its price and better if you have someone to fight against

All I was doing was saying that DIRT on the PS3 was delayed, and was questioning if the PS3 was the lead platform to begin with. My post was not, and never intended to be, some attempt to troll and spark a flamefest. If you interpreted it as such, I apologize.
