PS3 General Discussion

Thats awesome, great find! I think a organised list/thread would be a good idea and would certainly keep things more organised.

Since you played my level I'll return the favor and give you some hearts! Have you yet created a level?

*feels the love*

Yes, it's based on the old classic "Rainbow Islands".

Haven't managed to fix the bubble emitters yet though :(

Heck, even with all their talk at E3 last year I think Gears and Left 4 Dead were their only big exclusives. Their huge announcement, Final Fantasy XIII, hasn't even gotten close yet.
From what I've heard (being but a poor PC gamer myself), Left 4 Dead on the 360 isn't exactly the most fulfilling of experiences. And its arguable as to whether Final Fantasy XIII will make any difference at all, especially since they aren't doing it in Japan.

They have to be careful to avoid the Dreamcast mistake of becoming a non-competitor by killing themselves financially.
Double Irony: You know who had a large hand in putting Sega in that situation? Peter Moore.

Compared to the PC version, probably so, but for 360 only gamers it is apparently pretty awesome.

What hyped exclusive 360 game isn't awesome to the 360 only gamer ;)
Gears 2 online apparently, as it only took a week or two for Halo 3 and COD4 to get back into the top two spots for XBL usage.

Maybe that changed after the patch.

Full game: Lips.

The Gears Online community shrank REALLY quick. But, that's because the original fanbase was so rabid that they shunned any change with much anger (just like a lot of R2 folks).

Speaking of which, do any of you guy's have Resistance 2?

I got stuck on that giant iguana looking boss and gave up for a while. I couldn't get into to the multiplayer and for some reason my stats and progress wasn't being tallied. I only play co-op now.

So two days ago my PS3 locked up in Folding@home...Had to turn it off by the switch. Turning it back on, it locked with just the default background, but not even moving. And after one more restart, blank screen. Luckily the restore mode was able to do a full restoration and bring it back to life. I really have to start doing backups.

I can't sign into PSN at the moment, any ideas why? At first I couldn't get into Home, so I signed out hoping that'd fix it, but then couldn't sign back in.:indiff:

After finally convincing my sister in-law to allow me to buy my nephews a PS3, I finally got one for them... but now I'm feeling a tad envious.

Let me try and explain. They have a lot of PS2 games so I wanted to buy them a backward compatible PS3, and was fortunate enough to find one of the earlier (2007) 80GB PS3 (model CECHE01) at a nearby GameStop up in Dallas where they live. It was used of course, but appeared to be in fine shape.

Over the last couple days I've been filling their hard drive with various games and content from the PSN stores and something became abundantly clear as I had both my PS3 and their PS3 sitting near each other... their PS3 was whisper quiet, while mine was not.

What surprised me is that as far as I know the original 80GB PS3 was pretty much the same as the launch 60GB less the PS2 chips (instead it uses software emulation for backward compatibility), and that unlike the new models, did not have the cooler running 65nm chips. Yet, it runs so much more quietly than mine. :odd:

That is the same one I have. As the only other PS3 I've been around is the same model (a co-workers), I couldn't tell you the difference, but I will say that I have no complaints as far as noise goes.

I did see a post on the official PS forums where a guy and 3 or 4 friends bought every PS3 model they could find (took one back and got another), and made a review based on each model's fan noise, heat, F@H speed and General performance.

Somewhat surprisingly, some PS3 models were extremely loud, and others extremely quiet (according to that post, my old model was the second-quietest model they produced)

The CECHE01 isn't the model number they referred to, however, it was present on all of the 1st gen 80GB models. The number they referred to was the first 4-5 digits of the serial number (the part after CECHE01-).

I can't remember which Model was the most quiet, but maybe someone knows what thread I was talking about or can find it.

From,
Chris.

Mine had similar issues until I got out the canned air and a vacuum and helped it "breathe" a bit better.

You should give it a shot, make sure it's got no power, hit it with some canned air (make sure you work left to right from the front so it doesn't get trapped in the console). Then take a vacuum to the right side of it and get out a lot of dust.

After I did this, mine was noticeably quieter.

D-N, you have two kids. Either they are exceptionally well behaved (as in abnormally) or you should have few moments when it is quiet enough to make a difference.

Having played LBP with you and your daughter though, I am guessing that they are just very well behaved. You have a secret, and I want it.

My 60GB (June after launch) only makes enough noise to be noticable when F@H is running.

By the way, I felt everyone should be made aware that Buzz Jr Jungle Party has a Bathtub game where your goal as a young monkey, is to make fart bubbles in the bathtub as long as you can without getting caught by the sleeping gorilla. That game alone makes the game worth every penny of $5.

I can sign into PSN now, but that doesn't excuse Sony for the errors today.:grumpy:

Why shouldn't I be?:odd: There's no updates, there's nothing to say "Hey, PSN will be down on such and such date for so many hours". It just happens, ruining what ever you were doing.:irked:

Ahhh... to be young and impatient again. ;)

Just a tip though, if having a server go down for an hour let alone a day without some type of official "apology" is going to get you so riled up I suggest you disconnect from the internet and pray you never have a job that relies on the stability of a server... because with that kind of reaction, you'll go postal in just a matter of months, not years. :nervous:

Tip 2: Use the opportunity of these rare downtimes to do something else... like go outside and enjoy a calming walk. 👍

You mean to say that it crashed rather than them taking it down for some kind of maintenance? Because a crash I can accept, but if they took it down without giving us warning then I'd be annoyed.

Then just assume it crashed and move on...

There's no point in getting your feathers ruffled over something you can't control anyway.

Meh, I guess I'm not too bothered by it. With the lack of anything happening lately and being on 2 weeks holidays I guess I'm a little on edge, all day and nothing to do........

Maybe it's a generation gap or possibly locale, but when I was on break from school, I wore my bike out (obviously before I could drive), played with friends and couldn't be found for hours on end because I was too busy playing. Until supper time, of course.

If it was too hot to do that, there was always the pool. Too cold, you dressed warmer. Raining? Raining was different. When it rained, then I stayed inside and played games.

Point is, there are always other things to do besides waiting for the PS3 to sign in.
