PS3 General Discussion

Does anyone know if they would be preparing that system update right now? nuclearfire and I both just got disconnected while playing pool in Home, and we can't sign back in. I can only guess they're preparing the update.

:fistpump:

I guess Microsoft ran out of bribe money, hmmm Namco?

Just tried the European and US homes. Both work fine for me. Don't really know what happened to you Paulie.

Hmm yeah, we did get back on around the same time of your post, I don't know why both nuclearfire and I got locked out of PSN for a while there.

OK now I am quite annoyed (and a little bruised), putting my DS3 away a few minutes ago and the cat runs past and trips me up.

My head manages to miss the large pine unit, but I land firmly on the DS3, bent half my fingers back and the DS3 is now mangled.

The shoulder buttons took most of the impact and as a result all the clips that hold them in place are snapped or bent, the ribbon board that connect the shoulder buttons is torn out and basically my DS3 is now dead.

Still have my original Six Axis and the cat has gone into hiding, and on top of it all I now need to get another DS3.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

How bloody heavy is your cat?

Is it actually a leopard?

OK maybe not quite that big, but it is very stupid and tried to run in the same place I was about to put my foot down.

With hindsight maybe I should of just trod on the cat, but then the wife and kids would hurt me badly.

Hey what can I say I wasn't expecting a cat to charge from behind a sofa at something approaching the speed of sound (possibly another small exaggeration) towards my feet.

Now more annoyed that my hand hurts than anything else.

Thats why I bought a couple in the US when I was there last year, much considering our dollar back then much cheaper.

I haven't bothered with a DS3 at all yet, since the only game I want the best experience from, and play most often, is GT5:P and I have a G25 for that.:sly: The six-axis suffices for anything else.:)

Yeah, I got 2 last June, in Polar White shipped from the US and it only just cost more than buying 1 here.

Netflix may be wanting to bring streaming to the PS3 and Wii.

Netflix Could Be Looking into PS3 Support
A new Netflix survey suggests movie streaming could head to all three consoles.
By Steve Watts, 03/25/2009

A new Netflix survey posted by Engadget suggests that the company may be looking into streaming support for the PlayStation 3. It asks how likely users would be to utilize streaming Netflix movies on the system for a one-time cost of $9.99 for a an "Instant Streaming Disc." This is very similar to the recent report of a Wii survey, which also asked about a required disc for the functionality. This doesn't mean that streaming is necessarily coming to either console, but we know that Netflix wants to use consoles and set top boxes to get into as many homes as possible.
The feature has been very popular on the Xbox 360, and no doubt profitable to Netflix itself, as well as enhancing the image of the 360. Just a few months ago, Sony's John Koller said there are no plans to bring the functionality to the PlayStation 3. "We've concentrated most of our efforts on our download service, both rentals and downloads of movies and TV shows," he said. "Our efforts will continue to be there, because our customers want to own the content." He went on to say there's "no difference" between streaming on the PC and on the 360, and said it has caused confusion among consumers. It would be a strange move for Netflix to be investigating the possibility if talks with Sony had already given them the cold shoulder. Koller's sentiments may not last if Netflix comes with a profitable plan to offer streaming.

Here's a peek into a cat's thoughts on their captivity...
# DAY 752
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.

# DAY 761
Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed.

# DAY 762
Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep depriving, incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night.

# DAY 765
Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was...Hmmm. Not working according to plan...

# DAY 768
I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.

# DAY 771
There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer." More importantly, I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage...

# DAY 774
I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The Bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant. He has mastered their frightful tongue (something akin to mole speak) and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safeties assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time.

We have indoor cats and love them most of the time, I thought if you haven't seen this before it would give a laugh. :dopey:

Hah hah, the cat's diary is funny, although I think my cat's would be a little different.:sly:

I'm training my daughter to strangle cats...

;)

OK... maybe not, but it sort of looked that way from the pic. :D

I don't have many rules in my house... but one is no cats! So the kids get their dose of cat loving at their cousin's house, which is fine by me. 👍

BTW: Speaking of kids...

I forgot to tell you the secret:

D-N, you have two kids. Either they are exceptionally well behaved (as in abnormally) or you should have few moments when it is quiet enough to make a difference.

Having played LBP with you and your daughter though, I am guessing that they are just very well behaved. You have a secret, and I want it.

The secret is to hypnotize them with 3-D images:

http://kotaku.com/5187660/what-is-sony-announcing-on-tuesday

Sony dropped Kotaku a line to let us know that something is going down on Tuesday, March 31st. Could it be the long-rumored price cut is finally upon us?

Or could it be something completely different? Rumors have been doing little twirly things all over the internet over the past few weeks regarding a potential PlayStation 3 price cut, and while our first thought was "Why would they announce it several days after GDC?", apparently they are indeed announcing something several days after GDC. Go figure.

We're leaning towards a price cut, but we've got a sneaking suspicion that it's the PlayStation 2 dropping to $99, and not a cut for the PlayStation 3.

All we know so far is that they're announcing something.

gt5?

Is it possible to watch BBC iPlayer with the PS3? I can't get it to work, but I'd like to watch iPlayer content on my TV rather than on my laptop...

I thought so, but nothing happens when you click on "Play". I tried typing in the URL of the actual page I am watching on my laptop, but it is too long (:irked:) for the rubbish PS3 web browser..

edit: it's actually the predictive text limiting the length of the "word" being typed... you can type it in manually if you switch it off!

edit 2: It's working! I had switched accounts (on my PS3) and the web browser had Javascript off, hence why nothing was happening when I was clicking on Play...

Try Hulu as well, as it is fully functional with PS3 (though at times can be sluggish).
I have found the trick to this is to pause it after each segment/commercial break and let the buffer bar fill up half way or more. It means waiting a little longer, but it is still quicker than a real commercial break. It's probably even quicker on a faster connection.
