PS3 Title Update due this week

I was finding the cars to handle better. Couldn't do anything with the S2000 at Brands Indy last night, jump on it today and bam, get it 3rd go.

Maybe today is just your lucky day :D

to those of you who have noticed some things changed- did you actually go through a download and update process, or did it seem to happen behind the scenes?

ive restarted a few times and have not been prompted to update, and i have not ever known of an update to a game where i did not go through the download and installation process, so i was just wondering if something is wrong on my end.

thanks!

It definately made me download and update before I could play, no downloading in the background I'm afraid

I think you should check are you 'logged on EA-nation' in game. That might be answer, but I dont know... to me it told atfirst 'there is update 1.01 available' when I started game. I have 'auto log-in' selected.

I have auto-logon selected and it didn't prompt me for an update. Hmmm. Has anybody else with the NTSC been prompted for an update?

EDIT: Just checked the EA boards and it doesn't look like the patch for North America is up yet.

Well for those in North America "ner ner de ner ner" The games great with the patch.....OK only jokeing but it is great with the patch!

Edit....damn in my smugness I typed too slow LOL

Downloaded in 45 seconds here, no need for background downloading :D

Yep, I think there is a setting in the XMB which says "shout at me when there is an available update".

Of course, you have to have the CD in the drive and load it as per normal...

PS3 Version - patch 1.01 - downloaded after game start - 35mb.

I think they changed something in some cars "grip" - before the patch BMW E46 "works" 700hp was almost undrivable - now it is much much better. Didnt noticed "phantom girl" also...ohh and damage modeling is now better.

I noticed a little better handling as well, it is way less jittery. Glad to see EA fixing something for once.

Hmmm, also Porsche Carrera GT invitational event is playable (earlier it was "ping-pong" on first turn on SPA) now it is much less jumpy :D

+1 for general score due to patch upgrades :D

I'd say marginally better, still have to set the tuning for oversteer to get understeer, and vice versa.
That pretty much sums up the game though, the developers don't even know which is which, oversteer and understeer, sooooo.... what does that say about how well the game could possibly be?

Thanks for the patch but like all patches, new problem usually appears. Prior to the patch, when you're doing Time Attack (in the Quick Race option), the timing or stopwatch would start as you cross the START/FINISH line but it seems now that it would start counting once you're handed the control of the vehicle. On shorter track, the second and subsequent lap, the timing obvioulsy would be fine but on longer track like the Nordschleife where in the 5 min limit you can do 1 lap, you're timing is all screwed up. Please fix this.

The game is based on the GTR2 engine. The definitely know what they are doing. They just don't know how to label a slider properly. ;) (and it's not just this slider either)

ya man, what he said!

i dont think we can expect every programmer they have on the team to know the ins and outs of the sport, so even though there may be a handful of people behind the game that do, they arent neccessarily overseeing every detail so i dont think we should be surprised to see mixups and such :)

Another thing to take into consideration is that SHIFT is a product of EA/Blackbox who's responsible for the game's front end and gameplay and Slightly Mad Studios who developed essentially the game's graphics and physics engine. I wouldn't be surprised if someone at EA/Blckbox get oversteer/understeer mixed up (even I sometime do), but SMS has too much experience in racing sim to make such mistake.

There weren't any improvements to bouncing, what are you guys on about?:odd:

I wanted to update everyone here to let you know that there will be a Title Update for the PS3 released later this week. The update fixes a variety of issues that I've seen here. I'll get hold of the complete list and post later today or tomorrow.

Ah, just the guy I need to talk to. Did you fix the bouncing? If you look at the "Post your cars" thread, on page 3 you'll see my pix of the Carrera at Spa in Tier 2 bouncing all over the track.

Second, did you guys "fix" the online rooms yet? By "fix" I mean, add room/lobby listings so we can actually CHOOSE a [public] room/lobby to race in. Rather than be plopped into a random lobby when using the Custom Search function. Yes, when doing a Quick Race, random room parachuting is expected, that's how it's been for years. But, Custom does the same exact thing; no rooms to pick from, just being placed into a random room.

If you're always racing from your friends list, the randomness of Custom is irrelevant.

With GT5 not having an exact release date for the US and UK, NFS Shift is going to fill that gap. Only and I mean only if you guys get on the ball and take care of some issues. Those 2 bugs are what's causing myself and others to not have a completely enjoyable experience and preventing me from buying this game.

I want to buy it. I want to enjoy it. Having a car bounce all over the track like a mechanical bull is NOT my idea of a good time.

GRID was such a let down, only to be discovered AFTER I bought it. I will not get burned again.

Thank you for being approachable and talking the time to talk to this community specifically.

Don't think that would make it in to a patch, Aki. More of a feature and to make it easier, would involve a re-working of the system, which is beyond what most patches do.
Are you familiar with a game called Gran Turismo 5 Prologue? It has gone through a few major changes. Obviously from Spec I, to II, and now to III.

One more thing, I use a G25, please allow me to use the 2 red face buttons (L2/R2 I believe) to Look Left/Look Right. I do not like to take my hands off the wheel and fumble around for the directional buttons. While you're at it, I'd just like to map the whole layout myself, if I may.

GT-class race cars do bounce regardless. Again try and adjust your suspension- unlike GT (Gran Tursimo), SHIFT has real suspension that you need to tinker with. My other suggestion is to slow down in part of the track where you find the car bounces too much. For example at Spa, just before the ascend to Eau Rouge, there's a compression that if you don't allow your car to absorb it, you'll bounce right off to the side. At Autopolis it's just a matter of slowing down and the same goes for Road America. BTW, here's the driver's POV inside the Rahal/Letterman BMW M3 GT2:
