That's a lovely car. I've had one good run in it when the pack 1at launched, and I'm looking forward to having another run in it 👍

It's a proper challenge to drive.

Just remember guys that these events from add on car packs are purely for fun only as they have no impact on any trophies for the PS4 game.

Enjoy :-)

My Youtube browser history showed 15 (!!) GT40 @monza 66 results. So I was well prepared....Cannot find the one with the setup, therefor uploaded my setup for the <1:35 time. Yes this one took me quite some time and almost a broken wrist to achieve.

Thanks for posting the tune... I was over 2.5s off gold after a few tries. Loaded this tune and got it in 7 laps by >0.3.

Wasn't really a very good lap as 0.2 down going in to the final corner!

Edit

Just got the Audi R8 at Silverstone (was 0.03 off for around 8 laps, then beat it by 0.3).

Only 3 left now.

So it looks like nobody has beaten the gold with stock tune? Stock tune is impossible for gold?

Given set ups are available for everyone on the set up market, does that really matter?

No it doesn't matter. It is my wish list that they should set the gold standard with stock settings so for people like me who just spend more time on driving and care less about tuning can achieve the what might be possible.

Yesterday, I just tried ZakspeedTV tune (with a little tweaks on brake bias) on the Nissan GTR GT3 and oh my God, I can't believe I gained over 10 seconds consistently on Nurburgring. That tells me the stock is definitely not optimal for my driving style. It seems like the stock is set up to understeer a lot. Now learning about this new possibility, I guess I will just have to find more tunes on Youtube and you guys to gain more time :)

You don't need YouTube. Just google assetto Corsa set up market.

That's where I get most of my set ups from. It's easy to find tunes, and you quickly learn to spot the good tuners on there.

I am charging through these time trial events now like there is no tomorrow ;-) Some are so ridiculously easy I am embarrassed by them. e.g Lamborghini Contach at Imola I got second lap. Would have been first except I noticed my throttle was only going to about 80%.

OK here are some tips that I have found for those average drivers like me wanting the Alien times. I have used these and gone back and golded events I had only just bronzed in previously.

Auto Clutch and Auto Blip <ON>
All assists <ON>
Stability Control <100%>
Tyre Wear, Fuel <ON>
Full Damage <ON>
Tyre Warmers <ON>

Add any sort of tune you can come up with that makes the car turn, the stability control will stop it from sliding too much and drive it like you have stolen it. Keep the engine buzzing at red line and run the kerbs being as greedy as you like until you get pinged by the game.

Further tip don't let the cars slide too much it is too slow, a slight drift is fine and can be quite fun in the open wheelers :-)

Lastly I have found that treating this like an arcade game and driving like it is one gets the job done. Hence the "Drive it like you stole it" comment ;-) Treating it like a Sim and respecting the machinery as you would in real life will have you struggling for the times. And that's why I was struggling, it is not my natural mindset.

I hope this helps some of you that are struggling like I was, no doubt I will be criticised for what I have said by others but hope it helps at least someone.

Cheers

PS I thought I should add this as it can be important. Nearly every existing tune I have either got deleted by the game or was invalid e.g no brakes when driving. I have tunes written down so when re-entering data you will have to guess at new values. Again this why I am trying to get these events done before the next update as I am sure there will be another tyre/physics change.

All assists ON and stability control 100%?! I thought you were after realism. You're too good for those assists... 👍

As I anticipated in my post I am opening myself up to criticism here. That's why I tried to explain the mindset necessary to achieve some of these events.

At the end of the day I am trying to beat a video game with all the available tricks it has to offer. As much as I appreciate and treasure realism at the moment I am also trying to beat a programmer with his head stuck in cyberspace (actually it may be a piece of personal anatomy) ;-)

In real life you only have to be better than the rest of the humans that are there on the day. In this cyberspace construct where someone has arbitrarily set the rules and has then altered them I find very unfair and unreal.

As I said, this is why I was struggling so badly with these events, I was treating them as real and driving as I would in real life and it got me nowhere.

So now I treat it as *just a game* that I am out to beat with every legitimate trick I can find.

The *realism* will return when we finally get customisable lobbies and we can pit human against human and it is a level playing field for everyone. Where we don't care what someone has arbitrarily chosen as an ideal time under a particular version of software or tyre model. All these other concerns become moot points. It the same as a slippery (green) track or bad weather, it is the same for everyone and it comes down to how good you are on the day.

This is also a good time to plug for full length video replays so where there is a concern that a human is exceeding the general racing rules penalties, *IF* appropriate, could then be applied.

While we are discussing realism how real is it for competitors to deliberately (and continuously) tap another competitor's car on the rear quarter panel so they spin off the track and DNF? The AI does this in these special events. How real is this?

I feel quite justified on this and as I have tried to explain requires a different mindset.

I always drive as realistic as possible so no experience with stability control 100% and assists on. Don't you get a time penalty by using these aids? I noticed by using some cars turning TC off makes you about a second faster. It is not always smart to turn off TC -> depends on the car

Well I tried the special event BMW Z4 at Imola with 100% stability control and did not feel any difference and couldn't match my best time. What is it supposed to do? I now only need to shave off 0.150 for gold (stability off) and had it on one lap until the last corner and took too much kerb on the exit and did a Giovinazzi. :banghead:

I put that challenge in the (virtual) refrigerator for a while. 0,150 off gold is already very good! This is a real tough one. Maybe with the 'soon' to be released update and the new tire model it will be slightly easier too achieve?

The BMW Z4 at Imola is a very hard one to crack and I will be saving it for later. Stability control here I believe will be unnecessary as GT3 cars are very stable to start with and with settings on factory they do run TCS and ABS in real life so it becomes a moot point there too.

Where the aids are an advantage is with older cars on rubbish tyres e.g GT40 at Monza '66 or with the open wheelers e.g. Lotus 25 at Brands Hatch. It also made the F40 at Mugello a breeze too :-)

Again I would like to point out I am discussing the merits of tips of how to beat a video game. When we discuss how AC is a great racing/driving simulator this then becomes a totally different discussion and all aids should be what is available in real life.

And now for the big *BUT* ;-) But since some cars have been programmed with unrealistic traits e.g the Ford Escort for one where the brakes lock with so little input and there is no way to override this tendency with any adjustments available *IN THE GAME* unlike real life then this would be another discussion about whether aids should be used under these conditions to allow better racing. Even GT5/6 allowed us to turn braking strength down! Why not this supposedly superior Sim?

Also please bear in mind I am discussing all this in reference to the PS4 version where we do not have the ability to cheat and change the ini files for cars and override what has been programmed into them.

So IMHO you do what works for you and is available in the game when you are trying to beat these fake challenges. Also *IF* there is any loopholes that the programmers have left wide open then by all means exploit them too. At the end of the day it is only a video game ;-)

This one is making me go nuts! I drive with Stability off and most surreal assists off, while ABS and TC on stock.
I'm even more than 3 sec slower than the bronze time and this car is a nightmare to drive!

3rd gear is your best friend in that car, trying to accelerate out of the corners in 2nd is asking for trouble. I did the challenge tonight and managed a 1:58.8 and I'm sure that is a few seconds off the true potential of the car, but I was driving like I had an egg shell under my right foot.

I had completed this challenge before the updated tire model for the GT3's but I thought I'd have another go. Using a slightly modified setup I have been working on for Spa. Made a few mistakes on the lap, should be capable of getting into the 43s on a better lap. Hopefully this can help you guys out 👍

I have explained how to do it quite easily. Until I adopted my new methods I could just scrape the bronze time in with a lot of heartache.

I used tunes by me (not that says anything much) by Kunos as they give you settings in the career mode, by Zakspeed, by theKei25 (it was for Spa though and I changed the gearing) and even by Whoosiergirl.

Watching your video it is as if I am driving. I use the same lines and even the same gear changes and yet I am over 4 seconds off the gold time. It feels as if my stopwatch has 70 second minutes ;-)

So thanks for the video and the tune and especially for you so kindly going back and redoing the event for us. You have given me the impetus to go and knock myself out on this event so I will give it a red hot go tonight and see what I can do.

Just one question, you say on the video you use TCS 4/12 does that mean 4 of 12 or 4 TCS and 12 ABS because on your dash it says ABS 1?

Again, thank you very much for your time and effort here :-)

TC 4/12 is traction control on setting 4. You can run it lower or higher, just know it can be hard to make out the numbers on the dash so I try to include that information. I don't adjust ABS settings. It's no trouble at all, I enjoy the driving and making the videos. Happy to help when I can!

Thanks. Great tune I am in the middle of doing it now. I've got 1.8secs to find. I think I am running the car too far into the red line all the time and losing power.

I don't have a PS4 so I can't speak from experience, but based on videos I've seen from @Zakspeed_TV - the dude can drive, so giving his tunes a go is probably a wise idea...as long as it fits in with your driving style and capabilities. A lot of the fastest people like their cars extremely loose and that can be difficult for many people. Likewise, anything @WhoosierGirl posts as a tune is going to be an excellent tune...whether it works for you or not, that's the question, but when I played GT6 I always preferred to try the tunes of the faster players. Heck, I think WhoosierGirl was the 3rd person to get the Platinum award on Assetto Corsa for PS4 -- or however you word it...and she doesn't spend all day playing Assetto Corsa - she's just one of the smoothest drivers I've ever seen, back when I was playing GT6. I imagine she took those talents and applied them to her Assetto Corsa playing as well. 👍

Thank you for the compliments ALB :)

I used setups from @Zakspeed_TV, Kie, @SW__10 and a some of my own to get all the golds. The Demon on Wheels (Z4 at Imola) was my final gold, I ran outside and did a few back flips I was so happy:D.

Too difficult? Not difficult enough? Depends where your skill level sits.

Early GT games were hard… getting all golds on licenses and special events in GT1/2/3/4 was an achievement. I never saw them as too hard though – if I couldn’t gold them, and other could, I just faced up to not being fast enough and worked all the harder to improve my technique... I still believe it was these events that really taught me how to drive in games.

GT5 was massively dumbed down, and pretty much anyone could get all golds in the licenses. For me, this was a big disappointment – these were the parts of the game I enjoyed most, and suddenly, I only needed 2-3 runs to beat most of them.

In AC, I’ve found the difficulty level to be about right for me… some I’ve golded very quickly, but there have been enough challenging ones to keep me interested. I’ve used ABS throughout, and I’ve used TC where I’ve needed it.

I now have 3 hotlaps left to gold (McLaren GT3 at Barcelona, 'Slow but fun', M4 at Nurburgring).

I guess the point is that what’s difficult for some isn’t for others… so for the game developer, the challenge is finding a difficulty level to suit all – hence the different levels of trophies.

And the main question is should every player, of every ability level, be able to get all gold?

And the main question is should every player, of every ability level, be able to get all gold?

The answer is no. Having said that it should be achievable for at least the top 10% if not 20%.

You mentioned the GT5/6 games and yes they were too easy, agreed. I used to do all the online time trials, well the ones that used real cars anyway ;-) I could always finish in the top 1,000 and and occasionally in the top 500. One event I even managed to stay in the top 10 for nearly a week.

It was nearly impossible to find out how many people actually entered but I used to log on with my other account and do a really slow lap so I ended up with a valid time and position. It was not uncommon for there to be anywhere from 30,000-50,000 people entering and perhaps more that never achieved a clean lap to register.

What I am trying to say here is for someone of my ability I should not have to work this hard for some of the events because if it is this hard for me there must be an awful lot of people that have absolutely no hope of even getting Bronze times.

Also what makes me very annoyed with all these events is how there is no consistency of the required skill level. As we have all said, some are just ridiculously easy while others can seem impossible.

And NO, I do not want to be able to breeze through all the events on the first lap but it would be nice to be able to achieve the times with some tinkering of the tune in 20-30 laps though (exception here is the Ring) ;-) Even on this point, should these times be achievable with a stock tune? Does it further discriminate against people that can't set cars up?

So again I will say, IMHO there is too much discrepancy in the skill level for these events.

PS I need 0.520 secs for the Gold in the Z4 at Imola now.

I would always be top 50 in GT time trials (top 20 if I put in a decent effort)… so what you would classify as a good challenge (achievable in 20-30 laps) would likely only take me 5-10 laps… and for a proper alien like @eclipse, might be 1st lap.

Not being able to tune yourself shouldn’t be a barrier – there are readily available tunes on the set-up market and youtube.

The inconsistency is odd, but I just put this down to the tyres and physics changing several times since the game launched – making some easier, and some harder.

And 20-30 laps is under an hour on most tracks… I remember some of the license tests and events in GT4 taking me weeks to gold. The more difficult to achieve, the higher the reward when you get it.

The only hotlap event I’m truly frustrated with is the M4 at Nurburgring GP – that event is impossible on the PS4 IMHO.

And if you think the hotlaps are frustrating, wait until you try some of the quick races on Alien level… much more difficult than the hotlaps!!
