Or MS realise that they are ahead in the game at the moment and are trying to make hay while the sun shines ;)

You are aware we are a multi platform site and that terms like 'Xbots' are not only incredibly lazy but also frowned upon?

That's not even close. MS ahead of what at the moment, they're behind in every fiscal category globally.

The Xbots are on the defense. Pretty obvious the PS5 is probably around the corner in 2018 I suspect.

Right. And the Sony boys were totally on the defense when they lambasted Microsoft with their "how you share PS4 games" video.

I don't think @PzR Slim meant MS was ahead in actual sales or anything, just in terms of public opinion as of late. Microsoft's been nailing it recently, whereas Sony's starting to trip up.

They were with the original XBox as well.

How well did that work out for Sony from 2006 to around 2010?
The PS2 outsold the Xbox and didn't the PS3 outsell the xbox 360 even after coming out a whole year later. The PS4 literally has over double the install base as the Xbox One. The Xbox One was doomed since day one against the PS4.

Yes, after they spent three years toiling as the butt of most of the industry jokes and an entire year rebranding the entire division to turn it around, they eventually managed to start catching up to the 360 and pass it. I see the point was lost on you.

The Xbox One was doomed since day one against the PS4.
Doomed you say?

 The Final Fantasy limited edition PS4 Slim has a glossy top! Why couldn't the standard Slim & Pro console be like that!

Agreed.

Also... it's a bit annoying that it's a Slim model. Presumably for any given limited edition PS4, they won't be doing both Slim AND Pro versions... so IMHO all limited editions should be Pros. Especially the one for XV, which is known to be a game that will utilize the Pro's power and whose performance on the base model might be... how to put this nicely... cinematic.

No thanks, due to my habit of putting the controller down on top of my PS4 the glossy part of the top is a bit scuffed up while the matt part is fine, so I'd prefer mine to be scratch resistant matt black. They should possibly be giving a choice though.

Xbox One had a bad start. PS4 had a promising start.

Years later, PS4 stumbles on many aspects, XBone had solid aftersales.

Result: Nowadays XBox One sales has been head to head to PS4.

Clear enough explanation to you?

It's literally a reverse of the previous generation where the PS3 had a late flourish to finish slightly on top. I think when this generation is done Xbox would have clawed back the lead but maybe only by a few million units. It all depends on how well the Scorpio is received and also how well PSVR does.

I think it will be a while before we see any limited edition Pro's. They don't tend to do special editions or even new colour choices for a while after a new console launches.

Fair enough. I never thought about that as I put my controllers next to where I sit on the side table. My PS3 had to be treated like royalty to keep its glossy finish looking new for like 10 years!

So is this supposed to actually mean something? You said it earlier and it barely resembled English then either.

I imagine that's a struggling attempt to be witty. "L" is him implying that the argument was lost and he won.

How? Because the PS5 is coming out in 2018. Now the logistics of that is one thing, but what it specifically has to do with this conversation is something else entirely.

There is no helping some and their marriages to pieces of electronics. I think the GameFAQs message board might be more up your street Dr Sid. 'Fanboys', 'Xbots', trolls and conversations in gifs and memes galore.

I hear a lot of hate for the new style used with notifications in the new firmware:

Personally though, I like it. In fact, I think I'd also like a PS4 with a similar color scheme. So I did a mock-up:

Sign of someone behind and trying to get some attention IMO. I think Sony are going to likely increase their sales lead by at least four million by this time next year and also while remaining more profitable.
MS are pointing out (and capitalizing on) a very real flaw in the PS4 Pro's marketing strategy. You know, the same thing Sony did to them during the whole lead-up to launch?
Just lack of UHD Blu-ray drive? PS4 strategy has been all about gaming since the start, not media playback focus like Microsoft input one strategy. Sony offer HDR for all PS4s and VR support. No need to buy another console to get that or a long wait and more costly option for VR. Xbox One S will still be the bigger (Similar to launch PS4 size wise) less powerful gaming console compared to the PS4 Slim and heavily underpowered compared to the Pro which pricing wise is also its competition.

First off, you think that with the pro branding (and thus the high end version) they can go all out from it. I mean, they have the slim version if people wants cheaper PS4.

Sony can go all out with Walkman with those gold plated board etc. And as far as i know Playstation division were successful. So why not with PS4?

Secondly, what happened when game devs wants to supports 4K gaming by disc? Are those people who buy the game via disc screwed? 4K gaming may not come yet.

Yet. How we can predict the future?

Sales, sales, sales! Some of the best selling products in the world are utter garbage. I was talking about the fact that MS are offering a system with UHD Blu Ray capabilities. That's why MS posted that tweet to rub it in than SONY aren't. But hey if you want to continue the crusade feel free. As I've previously said, I've owned every console since the Mega Drive so have no need to take sides ;)

Not sure what you're trying to suggest there.

About discs, there ain't much difference between discs and digital. Just a different way of owning and installing game on console. The Last of Us: Remastered will get update so it supports 4K native on the Pro.

Crusade.

If that's the main thing they have to offer more to user at present as a gaming console then looking good for Sony IMO. Sony don't seem bothered too much about UHD Blu-ray that they will release their first UHD HDR Blu-ray standalone player in 2017. I think if anything, Sony will be happy that there will be more players for any UHD movies they release, a rather niche market at the moment. I think they will revise the Pro model with a UHD player next year when prices may be a bit lower. In the meantime, they won't have to take on the cost and/or pass it on consumers. Lesson learnt from PS3.

Apart from their resale value off course ;)

As @Samus points out you seem more concerned with what's best for SONY, so you may laugh at the term crusade but when the cap fits......

Well, not surprising since he is more concerned about sales rather than what is going on with actual products. Sales really don't mean anything for any consumer, so it's odd to tout it up as a plus for us, in general.

That must be why they've slowly crept into offering media-based functionality like Vue. You know, the subscription-based TV service that not even Microsoft pushes? The fact of the matter is the Pro lacks a fundamental feature that would further its appeal to the very market it's reaching for; a feature that the lesser Xbox One S offers without any changes to its hardware structure.

Which is really odd and is, again, a flaw: to push 4K and HDR but not offer physical media playback that capitalizes on those features? As for your suggestion of Sony possibly revising the platform next year with such a player is even more nonsensical than not having one in the first place.

What's the problem with people in this thread? It's a VIDEO GAME SYSTEM. Sony learned not to try and be everything to everyone last time around. Why did you expect them to unlearn from the past and spend money on something that is not game related?
They would pass the cost on to us in full plus interest you know.

Yep, definitely only a video game system...

https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/explore/ps4/entertainment/

And the first and last points on that page point out how well it does Blu ray, so to leave out UHD Blu Ray when they make such a song and dance about 4K is strange to say the least.

Oh, it's a video game system? The fact that Sony's trying to sell movies, Vue subscriptions, etc. says otherwise. :P

(D'oh! Tree'd!)
