PSN game sharing being reduced from 5 -> 2

This won't really impact me at this time as I only have two PS3s one upstairs and one downstairs. But what happens if you buy a new PS3 because one broke? I would hope that Sony take this into account, especially GT5 and other games with allot of DLC I don't care much for game sharing but this development could hurt people with genuine issues. Hopefully it won't.

Sony can deactivate an old PS3 that you cannot access. I had to do this with my original fat 60GB. I had to have them deactivate it for videos also. Pretty damned dumb that games and videos are two separate activations just to watch FREE videos!.

And while that has always been a direct violation of the Terms of Service, even with this change, technically you still can share games with family, friends, even strangers.

Only now, if you are going to share with more than one person, it's slightly less convenient... but it's still a violation of the Terms of Service, and could result in Sony not just banning, but even deleting your PSN account and thus all the games and DLC you bought from that account. So do it at your own risk.

I never said I've actually done it, only that's the only ones that I would do it with. And how hard is it for you to lie when you are the stranger you are sharing with when you say you are family in the event that they find out and the stranger agress to lie? Still it's a violation, I know.

Trust me, if you had 3 PS3's under your roof, you would be pissed off too. Several of these fracking games we have bought 3 times!!! Thanks Sony for rewarding your loyal consumer base.

I wouldn't. If I had an adult son with a job he can buy his own digital content. I'm fine with the limit.

True, I could care less about his Call of Duty crap. Then again, some people just don't like to share anything with anyone. Those are the type of people who are not affected by this ridiculous change in policy.

How do you get 'em to deactivate a PS3? Do I have to call them? What information will they need?

The reason I ask is because my 80GB bit the dust last week and I want to deactivate my account on it.

You can call them but I prefer Emailing them just go to the Playstation.com and hit support and tell them what wrong they gladly activated my slim and deactivated my fat

I just called. They wanted the serial number, which I didn't have because they had the unit. I told them it was for the first PS3 we owned. Very simple conversation.

We tried this when my son had his PS3 over here a month or so ago. After we deactivated his (#3) and reactivated (#2), his (well my) DLC from the Collectors Edition (Chromeline cars) are no longer usable! Not only that ALL DLC from PSN games to map packs to Rock Band Import keys & Rock Band and Guitar Hero songs to LBP costume packs prior to this colossal screw up no longer works on his PS3!

I have no idea what you are doing, but I have my account on multiple PS3s; my old launch 60gb, my new slim, my brother's launch 60gb, and my nephew's slim - and have activated and deactivated on these dif PS3s with no problems being able to play and access the content I paid for.

As mentioned before, you can own dozens of PS3 and still be able to download and play all the games you paid for... and you can even play the same game on two different PS3 at the same time for the most recent games, and up to five different PS3s at the same time for all the games and DLC purchased before last November.

(And as has already been mentioned, even if you do not own a PS3 that has your account on it that you wish to deactivate your account on, you can contact Sony and they will be able to see all the PS3's that have your account currently activated - and thus you can have them deactivate any of them - but as a cautionary note, they also know the location of all of those PS3s, and if any of them are registered, they will also know the owner, and if it appears you are game sharing, you risk the possible consequences.)

Heck, this change doesn't even prevent game sharing, it just makes it less convenient to do something we are not supposed to do in the first place.

For those freaking out because they can't play the games they bought after this change, at the same time on three or more PS3 at the same time - I wonder how they manage with disc games? Hmmm... Either they bought multiple copies or they copied them illegally right?

The fact still remains, while it is a violation, you can still share games, and you can still play and access all the content you paid for on as many PS3's as you like - you just can not have more than two of them activated at the same time - and that's only for content paid for after the policy change.

If im over that limit can i delete an account on one ps3 and open a new account on a difrent ps3.

You do not have to ever delete an account as there is no limit to the number of PS3s you have your account on. The only restriction is that you can only have two of those accounts be active at the same time. If you are not sure what it means to activate and or deactivate an account and how to do it, a search on Sony's PSN support site resulted in this article:

How do I activate/deactivate my system on the PlayStation®Network?

It was never intended to be shared. Its there so you can use "your" content on multiple active systems. Not sharing with other people with different master accounts. 5 was overkill. I'm glad I can use my psp or my Vita to play my digital content psp and mini games. I only need one ps3. But if I used another ps3 I'd have my content there without needing to take my ps3 with me and have my game saves in the cloud. Its convenient but too many exploit this so Sony cut it down.
