Now the Legends DLC pack sits right in front of my nose, only to find out, that I cannot add any funds to my HK based PSN account on my Shanghai local PS3 with my German bank account based cards.

How could I add funds to my account, to purchase the DLC?

Dont know much about the Shift series, but you can go to any local Walmart or Gamestop and buy a playstion store card. Then when you go to purchase it will ask you whether you wanna pay with your credit card or the gift card.

Lol, I've been negotiating this exact problem the last couple of days.
The key is the country your PSN account is anchored to. You say HK. But I'm assuming you're in Shanghai? Yes? Then you need to find a HongKong game retailer who operates online, and who can sell you a $30 or $50 playstation network card (in hongkong dollars). A german credit card shouldn't be a prob as long as it's Visa or one of the international companies.

Try play-asia.com.

Anyway - I'm assuming this will work. I haven't bought the PSnetwork card yet and tried using it to purchase DLC. I will later today. I'm in S.korea but my PSN acct is australian.

@spank_ur_mom
Thanks for the info - not sure, if I can get HK Playstation gift cards in Shanghai?

@Mike0105
I will have a look into that.

@Barry
Thanks for the info - it is very weird to come up with such limitations with most international companies these days - especially Sony with their worldwide PS coverage.

Play_Asia is an absolute no go for me.

I made several attempts, to do business with them, always getting stuck with very slow communication, stubborn and very unhelpful reactions.
No business for me with this company.

@sfrench
I would be happy, to hear about a professionally operating alternative to Play-Asia.

I might check, if a friend form HK can purchase a gift card for me, but this should not be the way for the many Expats and out of country living people in a globalized world, to actually purchase a service from Sony ?

Ah geez. I just bought a 30 dollar card from an australian website and they were even good enough to email me the code. I could put the 30 in the 'wallet', pay for and download the legends pack -- but damn it -- it doesn't work!!! Either it's because I bought the game disc in korea or the console. But somehow the DLC isn't showing up within the game.

A thousand curses on you sony. Like you said menos, how can they operate in such an international-unfriendly way.
I just wasted 30AUD and the only way I'll ever get the Shift 2 DLCs (or LA noire for that matter) is if they put it on a disc and sell it in the shops.

DLC is region locked even though the games are not, if you open up an asian PSN account and had an Asian PSN card you would be able to download it then.

I found that out with Fallout. I had an Asian region game, downloaded the DLC from the Aussie PSN store and then could not use it $15 bucks down the drain. I then had to wait ages for the DLC to come to the Asian store and use PSN cards I had bought from play-asia.

I had no dramas with play-asia but I can understand your concern. Ebay might be an alternative and if you use pay-pal then you are covered for any loss if the cards dont arrive. I actually think I used pay-pal on the play-asia site.

I have stopped buying overseas games for that reason, if any of them come out with DLC you either can't use them on your regular PSN account and you have to get them from the region the game comes from.

It's a pain in the a

@Barry
This is too bad!

@sfrench
Completely against any logic, what Sony is trying to do here. It really is time, to rethink the platform.

So far, I held on to the PS3 as the hardware, updating and original software available only were strong points opposed to the X-Box, I also have.

The PS3 is just a better console with better user experience (less hardware issues, better as a DVD player, …).

The system of DLCs though seems, to be better supported on the X-Box, while some issues are questionable as well (on the Chinese market are barely any original unmodified X-Box available, and if for a premium price over modified samples !!!).

My only chance, to get FM2 run quickly was, to pick up a modified console and an original Game, I bought, when travelling.

There was no coming by an original X-Box.
Now my X-Box has been locked and excluded from all online content including updates, my purchases, etc, because modified consoles will be locked out from X-Box Live - no excuses…

We are still a long way from a truly globalized world. By full contrast, doing actual business over borders and continents is fairly easy, once all mandatories are set up.

I will not get the DLC until I probably pick up a future all in one package version for either X-Box or possibly PS3.

What really annoys me, is, that I own two copies of GT5 prologue, both of which are working properly on my HK account from my Shanghai based hardware.

One is an Asia version edition, the other a German version.
Both are fully functional regarding updates, online content, etc - no restrictions.

Why is this not working with DLC content?

Medieval times we are in.

I think that sometimes people in this situation can create a sub-account for the country their in and then buy the DLC, which can then be shared with the master account. But the weird thing is that when I try - I make a new user, and then in the PSN setup I can choose any country accept korea -- wtf? Maybe there isn't any korean playstation store at all, and it runs off the japan servers...?

I might try fumbling through the japanese kanja account setup and seeing if I can use my credit card there.

The only other option I see is to wipe the console completely and start again with locked to korea. I don't want lose all the trophies though -- I'm not really high up, but that's tens and tens of hours of wasted time I am proud of.

Believe me, I've been wondering if Xbox is as messed up with this stuff and considering swapping.

Menos, re play-asia, if it's worth anything, I've dealt with them several times and it's gone okay. They email fairly quickly and ship free to here.

I live in Europe, but have both US and Europe PSN accts. I purchased Legends DLC with my US PSN, but it did not show up in the game.
Is the reason why because DLC are region-locked? But shouldn't it work when I sign in with my US acct?? It doesn't either.
The game was purchased in Europe.

I had originally bought an Asian copy of the Limited Ed. of Shift and the free content did not show up on my Aussie PSN account. When I went on my Asian account it was there but that was no good as all my friends are on the Aus PSN. Shift seems to be different to other games I have gotten from other regions as I can access the DLC or limited content on all accounts but not Shift.
