For such a close finish, it was pretty anti-climatic.
With aliens not on the grid, I started 4th. Had a perfect start although everyone else did, so I didn't gain an advantage. Coming into T1, I pulled inside so I wouldn't hit anyone. Erick and I went side-by-side through the left-right complex with myself winning the position. Good thing too because Nige and Brosif worked together trying to leave me behind. They almost did, but they messed up each other at T1, allowing me in on the action. The two swapped spots for a while, with me patiently riding behind them in 3rd. Unfortunately, their pace was too fast for me to help Owens catch my draft, as he was in 4th.
On Lap 6, Brosif ate the dirt exiting T11. Since I used a conservative line, I was able to slip by without lifting, allowing me to stay with Nige. After that, I tried bumping him every lap on the straight until Lap 13 or 14 when he pulled right before I got to him. That made me believe he wanted me to stop so I decided not to on the following lap.
Nige pitted early, so I pushed the car as my tires still looked good. No issues on pit road, and when I came out, Nige was going by me when the behind car nudged him into T1. He got out of shape, but held onto it. I had to back off quite a bit, but I was able to trail him with my cold tires although I was losing him. By the time I exited T11, I honestly thought he lost me, but I had just enough draft that the car pretty much hit warp speed, and I erased the gap by the time I approached T1.
The next lap, Nige pushed all he could, and I fought to, again, not lose him, and when I went through T11 again, I was certain I was getting a really fast lap, but I didn't want to pass him so I stayed behind all I could until start-finish. Unfortunately, instead of pulling aside and backing off, I actually lifted and tapped the brakes, but I still bumped him. No damage but I'm was pretty sure he didn't appreciate that.
On the next lap, I said "Ok, don't hit him again" but when I got close to him on the straight, he pulled aside and he slowed just enough that I took the lead. At that point, I pretty much knew I lost the race. Since I didn't know how far back Brosif was, I couldn't afford to play cat-and-mouse too much in order to force Nige back in front. The few times I tried, he refused to bite the cheese. Last lap was quite relaxed for me, knowing all I could hope for is P2, which is what I got in the end.
Still, I did feel that Nige had better pace than me, and the draft benefited me more, so I believe the faster man won today. Good job. 👍
The good thing is that I did get fast lap, and I finished ahead of Brosif, so it was a good points day. Also, since my teammate also had a good finish, we gained a tad on the purple eaters this weekend.
As for Nurb F, I'm fighting wheelspin exiting certain corners, but I did lay down a 2:09.650 with only minor tweaks to my Indy setup. I have this race labeled as a must-win because the rest of the schedule is really not in my favor with two draft-fests, and Monaco where it went from one of my best tracks to my worst with no explanation why.
