Ugh. Two hours of testing and I'm getting nowhere. 1:32.6 is all I can manage and my tire wear still stinks. Meds are around half around Lap 7. 👎

For anyone that wants it:

Aero: 35/53

Transmission: Top Speed - 205, Final - 4.325
LSD: 7/12/12

Ride: 10/1
Springs: 15.2/14.7
Dampers E: 7/7
Dampers C: 5/6
ARB: 2/2
Camber: 1.9/1.1
Toe: -0.15/-0.03

Brakes: 7/5

For what it's worth, in the tests I ran with multiple suspension setting combos, there's not much to do about tire wear. I've yet to find a "good tire wear" tune, and I don't think such a thing exists in GT5.

Positive toe (+) increases tire wear, camber increases tire wear, and higher BB can increase tire wear. Also a low or high LSD can cause higher tire wear for whichever tire you're breaking loose, low would be inside of course, high would wear the outside tire harder.
But then it also helps the tire not spinning, so... "shrug"

Yeah thats true. But there must be a special tune to save the tyres. Even if it 2 laps more. But then again you get the under cut when you pit before your rivals just like in F1. The time gained by pitting a lap earlier is massive. But if you can some how find a tune to stretch the tyres out to make 1 less pit stop then that would be the difference to winning and finishing 4th.

But sadly like you said, i dont think such a tune exist in GT5.

I watched the replay of our little race in the RX7s at GVS and noticed after the 2nd lap your tyres were in a lot better shape than mine. Ive always been hard on the tyres and can never seem to make them last as long as my competitors. Im just to rough with the car lol. And now with this tyre wear issue after the last patch it has really hurt me.

Hi there.

Well, I'm unfortunately not able to join this series cause, as you know, i'm the GTPlay Team Manager / Events organizer / one of the main admins / etc and bla bla bla...and some members have organized a championship between the 4 biggest notorious french teams (GT5rs, GTracing, GT-club and us, GTPlay). So, my children (it's like that i call my team members, lol) are very insistent that i take part to the series with them cause...they love me? lol. Well the series takes place on sundays, just after the PURE JGTS races. So, I really can't join the PURE Mazdaspeed RX-7 Challenge (Or I need clone of myself lol).

But, I can be (and stay) a PURE Steward for this series, no worry for that, I stay tune on the thread. The only things that I can't do are races and "host job".

And don't forget guys, EYE HAVE YOU ;)

Guillaume.

We'll I've tested a few crazy ideas to somehow close the gap on tire wear. I did this at Fuji with Med tires.

Switching views:
I personally use the bumper cam. Have been since GT1 and after using the other views, it might just be a mind trick but the "effort" needed to turn the car in bumper cam seems to be a lot more. Yet, I wasn't any faster and my tire wear didn't improve save for maybe roof cam and it wasn't a lot.

Power Steering On/Off:
On makes tighter corners easier for me to navigate but a lot of smoothness is lost. The wear was about the same either way but I think having it off is better. I'd rather have it off myself but then the car feels like a truck. Maybe I'm just someone that wants instant response which brings me to...

Force Feedback:
Doesn't matter what I change but on my end, the higher this is, the slower my times are and my wear doesn't get better. Just bringing it down from 4 to 3 got me consistent 1:32s.

Therefore, the magic formula might be:
Hood cam view
Power steering off
Force Feedback lowest to driver's comfort level

On a side note, I'm pretty sure that anyone using a DS3 is pretty much out of luck on wear compared to wheel users. It's just something I've noticed after all this time.

It's your driving. ;) I am generally good on tires too. I consciously make an effort to not wear them.

Try out a soft tune, a medium tune, and a stiff tune, there's really nothing besides camber and toe that makes a big difference. Not even a lap time difference, as long as you drive each for the way the suspension is set.
I've also found the lap time lost on lower camber isn't worth the tire wear gained either.
I pretty much run 2.0/1.0 every single race, ever. Currently running a crazy 2.2/1.0 at Monza for Pure. But I only did that to wear the front tires a bit quicker, to make them match the rear wear. Added some grip, best of both worlds. :)

@ Outlaw: You're a smooth steering type. Sounds maybe more so then I am, I run PS off (because it kicks in weird imo), FF at 6. Lower and I get a little overly input happy. :D

Yes, the PS is very weird, going on and off like a broken light and boy, it can mess me up sometimes but it helps compensate for the horrid aero push that seems to only affect me during a race. Otherwise, I'd be going off corners all the time. :grumpy:

Now, if I was driving the X1, though, I turn it off. I still remember running 8 consecutive laps of around 47-48 seconds and barely moving the wheel an inch. Good times. :dopey:

I unplug mine for the X1. Not worth buying a new wheel, heard to many stories, can't stand the feedback it gives anyways. :yuck:

um....just a quick question, are we racing this week? i've seen some members that are postponing their racing series until the next update

I had camber above 2.5 for the front and over 2.0 for the rear. I could have stretched the tires, but I figured 3 stops were the norm. I really didn't even know we were doing GVSpeedway. I was killing the lap times at Nurb GP/F, and Fuji I just don't like. The track is weird, the last turn kills me. I tried with less camber and I feel that helps tire wear out a bunch. I use the DS3.

Whether DS3 or wheel, I never found better for lap times then 2.5-3.0, but never a better compromise between grip and tire wear then good old GT4 default, 2.0/1.0.

It actually depends on how you use the DS3. For those trying to get good tire wear with that, here are some things I figured out.

Tuning:

Really, I have no clue.

Acceleration:

Don't have the throttle mapped to a switch or button. Map it to the analog stick or R2. R2 and the analog stick will allow you to smoothly apply throttle. Spinning tires = horribly tire lag.

Braking:

Reduce the brake bias and don't use full brakes. You rarely ever need to go full braking power. Just brake to what you need, and a little less if you want to conserve your tires.

Steering:

Biggest thing a lot of DS3 users do wrong is just throw the stick all the way to the left and all he way to the right. This destroys your front tires. The speed that you can go from lock to lock with the controller is faster than with a wheel (normally. You can whip your wheel around to beat the controller, but it feels so unnatural and you can feel the speed/tire rubber being lost).
Don't use the extreme left and right - try to be as smooth and slow as you can and still make the corner. Never just let it snap to center. If your tires glow red, back off immediately.

Tire Temperature:

I'm still experimenting with this. I'm starting to notice a pattern. The tires get to hot, they lose grip. Then you start diving into corners harder and using more steering to compensate, resulting in horrible tire life. Best thing to do is to keep the tires below the optimal temperature (I have no idea what it is). But if you can find it, don't push beyond it, and if you feel the car losing grip, don't try to make up for it - let your car slow down and cool the tires.

He's working. Which, can't blame him for that at all, but I think if he doesn't have sufficient time to keep track of the thread and keep things running, maybe we should postpone it or allow someone else to take over the management duties.

Like Mr Miller here :sly: (Btw how was it like driving those Formula Silverstones you lucky man :P). I hope Mule doesnt need to though but yeah work is important so if needs be but im sure Mule will inform us whats the plan :).

All I see is tumbleweeds.

It's better to postpone everything considering the ongoing online issues. I know that it's making me lose interest in playing GT5 right now.

Yeah ive seen alot of series postponing due to the bug so that could be a good idea, atleast for the time being.

That's what I'd do, to be honest. Postponing might be a better idea. I don't want our series to be crippled by stuff.

Tuesday is the update, the bugs seem to happen when someone has a slower connection. TT's still can go on though if it's two at a time.

Okay, it's time to get this kicked into gear here. I'm going to be making a Quiali spreadsheet later tonight, and I'll have it posted before I go off to bed.

Mule, friendly reminder about Saturdays and Wardez. ;)

Thanks

I knew I was forgetting something! :dunce:

Yeah, Owens here is interested about a Saturday series since he can't make Sundays. If there are other people interested, I don't see why we can't do it.
