Out of curiosity, when will digital pre-orders be up? There's a few games available to pre-order on the Xbox Store that aren't due until September.

Or are you waiting on a closer idea of when PCARS 2 will be released before deciding that?

We're at that interesting point where if everything comes together and all of our sub-teams give it their all, we can make a Septemberish ship. But once you commit there's no going back as everything focuses on that date from marketing to pre-purchase to store buy-in etc. So we'll make that commitment very soon. I want as much confidence as possible before we're tied in and every day is bringing a little more confidence.

Thank you for the response! :)

I'm a new member whose been following this thread closely from the start of this. Thought it would be fitting to use my first post to simply say thanks to @IanBell and everyone else from sms for being so open and communicating with the people who have and will enjoy your titles. Really great to great to see such a connection with the community. I've really enjoyed pcars one and two can't come soon enough. Sincere thanks!

Nice try @IanBell but you don't have to make a 2nd account just to congratulate yourself ;)

Baby's first joke? :P

But for real, the rookie's sentiments are spot on.

Makes me wonder what is more difficult; bringing a brand new racing IP to the market VS creating its sequel...?

Imho creating its sequel...people expect bigger and better from that (which will be delivered BTW)
Just imagine the challenge the team is up to if/when they consider going for Pcars3...guess i'll have to make room for an entire car in my living room in the future...lol

I was one of those people who were looking forward to playing PCars1 back in 2014 and was disappointed with the multiple delays, so I think you guys taking a more careful approach with release date this time around is a good thing.

@IanBell @The_American In PCARS 1, a person only has access to DLC content if the console is connected to the internet. If for some reason the internet is down or someone is at their countryside house for some holidays with little or no internet connection that person can't access the DLC content which was payed for. I guess other games or actually maybe with all this happens?
My question is: What is the reason for this? Does it have to be this way? The content is paid for and installed in the console, why there has to be a connection to whatever server to "unlock" the content in the game? Could this be changed for PCARS 2?

@IanBell

Regarding tyres:

- Do different slick compounds have a meaning now?. Do softs degrade and lose grip very quickly now at least?
- Tyre degradation. Is it properly shown on screen now?. Do totally or near totally worn tyres properly behave now, making the car undriveable?
- Tyre pressures and temps. Do tyres really overheat now?. Will extreme low pressure user have their issues at driving now?
- Do inters work as intended?

The Track Live feature is looking very good, but if tyres don't work as expected then they will render it pointless.

Is there going to be any 1080º steering rotation cars in pc2, like the Ferrari F40 for instance?

Nothing works 'now'. It's all pointless.

now we're talking

Good one :)

Joking aside. It's a new tyre model, new diff model, new throttle model and it's all being polished nicely. I couldn't resist having a jab at your wonderfully worded (but as a subtext) list of statements that pCARS1 was off in most tyre areas.

It wasn't. We had a camber bug which is fixed in the new model and we had an initial issue on wet tyres/dry track that was fixed around patch 4.

@IanBell , @The_American
In the official pCARS forums some time ago, there were some hints, that pCARS2 might be involved with the Xbox Game Preview program.
Is this something, still on the cards, or are you focusing only on just the full release?

@ Ian Bell, The American, i have 2 questions hope you can answer me
1. Will the number of drivers in online lobbies be increased to 20/22?
2. There will be an option to customize qualify that allow you to divide qualify in 2/3 rounds like in the F1?
Thx for your reply

I've previously asked about improving the competitiveness of harder dry compounds, and we got a positive answer from Ian that it's being worked on a lot. Overall, he hasn't said much yet because we're supposed to get a video on the tire model soon.

Tire degradation meter only covers the tread of the tire, which is only accounted for 50% of the total wear. We usually never get to "fully worn" tires.

I find that with low pressures, you get a larger increase of pressure when you run on them. If you can get the tires to end up around 2.00 bar (LMP/GT), no matter how low you started, you can get some decent performance out the tire. I agree with you on overheated (dry) tires not getting a significant enough drop off in performance/increase in wear.

I find intermediates work pretty well in light rain at least for LMP/GT, but they do wear a bit faster than the wets in the same conditions, favoring the wets for anything more than a single fuel stint. For PCARS 2, Ian has already said that Live Track 3.0 had a way of making the relationship between Inters and Wets much more interesting. One part of a track can be wet and the other dry.

In regards to the tire wear/competitiveness, a lot of that also depends on the room settings. If everything is set to REAL wear/consumption then they are pretty good, but as soon as you increase tire wear to x2, x3, etc. it all goes a bit wonky.

Because the current game does not allow to increase the rate of fuel consumption, our only option for keeping things somewhat "realistic" in regards to how many pit stops are needed during a simulated 24 hour event, is to increase tire wear rates. Otherwise you end up doing a "24 hour" event with a single pit stop..... not very accurate......

If i set up a competition for some friends , will it be possible to select the race during the week to practice for a race in the weekend with te same conditions? (time , weather , assists , ...) .

Hey Ian, it's a great time for sim racing. I think console gamers owe a lot to Pcars for opening up the market. Thank you.

My questions is about replay's.

1. Are you guy's working on removing the fade to black between camera angles.
2. Creating lower/closer to the ground angles?
3 And better frame rates?

thanks

Rumors say next gen might begin next year: Will the car models from Project Cars 2 be transferrable to the next gen?

I recall Kazunori making a big fuss over adaptive tessellation, stating the cars could be future proof. I'm not sure how accurate he was in that assertion.

Probably not.

If you think anything's future proof in technology, you've already gotten it wrong.

The closest thing to next gen in 2018 will probably be PS4 Pro and Xbox "Scorpio".
Considering each gen last longer than the previous one and PS3/360 gen lasted for 7 years before PS4/X1 were released, I wouldn't count on "real" next gen before 2020 (with talk about it before obviously).
And that is if this is not just an upgrade like the aforementioned Pro/Scorpio.
