So with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on June 2nd-5th, there are many countries around the world that are celebrating it. The only other British Monarch to get to their Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria (1837-1901)

There is also a 4 day weekend over the first week of June and I was wondering, are you planning any events related to the jubilee over that weekend.

George III came close to a diamond jubilee. Missed out by mere months.

So is she getting a new diamond on her crown?
Not sure if sarcasm but I'll answer anyway. No, she has reached 60 years as Monarch

Yeah I know, when I was researching this subject I found quite a bit of interesting stuff that my History teacher never told me.

Last Tuesday me and my orchestra played for her whilst she was being shown around Salisbury Cathedral, caught a few glimpses of her, pretty sure I saw Camilla too.

That must have been a bit nerve racking  How did you get on?

Do you guys really get excited about this?
Some patriotic people do. Others not so much.

I'd imagine: Day off = Hell yeah.

Seeing it like that, is normal. Seeing a King or Queen as someone special, meh.

Especially when it's an old fart who has been farting along for 60 years now.

i'll be spending my Jubilee day off thinking about the Queen as much as she'll spend it thinking about me.

It's a day off work.

If the weather's good, it'll be the perfect excuse to drink and play basketball all day.

Ignoring the fact that the economy might grind to a halt.

There were other people in the cathedral, most of the time in the way. She didn't pay much attention to us (apart from telling us to play quieter), and came and went in less than ten minutes.

Annoyingly, they've put the 4 day weekend in my half term. :grumpy: Bastards! But I think it's an incredible achievement for Her Maj to reach, and I doubt I'll see another diamond jubilee in my lifetime...

More likely the half term was put over the bank holiday because they always do that. It's also Witson weekend which is also a bank holiday. I guess they do it because it's easier for the parents.

She dies, Charlie takes over, but not for too long, and then young Willy steps in as a Dictator.

And then William will produce an heir.

There's no way the La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo will ever let Henry become King.

That's his actual name. So if he was to become King, he would probably become Henry IX.

Definitely not Harry. Didn't you ever think that 'Harry' was too contemporary for royalty?

Charles might become George VII instead of Charles III. One's regal name does not have to reflect one's actual name, and Charles has said he wants to honour his grandfather.

Good for the queen. I'm not hugely patriotic, I think the royal family have a place in our country however only because they make money and purely for histories sake.

I won't be celebrating much, maybe a cheers at dinner to wish her an even longer reign but that's about all. The thing that I can't stand though is the daily mail's view on this. They were giving away "cleaning kits" so people can "clean the nation, it is the least we can do for the queens 60 years of selfless service, is to make her kingdom clean." :S

@Ross: no sarcasm, legit question. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Wiki

You know about anniversaries and their adjetives, right? Emerald, Ruby, Gold and so on.

Diamond used to be for 75 years, but was brought forward to celebrate 60 years for Queen Victoria, to generate some public support, because she basically retreated from public life after her husband's death.

And as it says, commemorative coins, medals and so on in addition to national parties/celebrations.

Thanks for the info liquid.👍

So it serves as an anniversary. Can't believe I didn't make that connection.:ouch:

So you guys are gonna party hard?

Like we need an excuse;

I know how to rock.

It's one of those rare occasions that the British people can invest in a national symbol. In comparison to the States, where the flag and the anthem are much more symbolic, we have a royal family functioning as both a central head of state (the King or Queen), and as a symbol of the country. Stiff upper-lip and what-ho!
