Just to clarify first, I don't mean consistency in normal racing terms, as in consistent lap times, but I'm taking about AI skill level consistency across different tracks. I've only just bought the game a few weeks ago, and sometimes I like to mess around in Quick Race and just try different car class and track combinations. I typically have the AI levels both set to 100 and can generally be competitive.
One exception that I've noticed however is Road America, particularly the second half of the track starting with the carousel. The AI always seems to be able to carry so much speed through the carousel itself and maintain it through the following kink. I've tried this with multiple car classes, GTE and LMP1, and it's always the same. I'm fairly certain I've tried setting the AI down to 75 and it didn't make a difference.
What I'm trying to figure out is whether I'm just an idiot who can't tune the car properly, or if the AI is unrealistically faster on certain sections of certain tracks. I admit that I'm typically not great at tuning, but I've still been able to remain competitive at other tracks with the AI set to 100. So it seems strange to me that the AI cars would be that much better set up for that particular part of the track. And again, I'm fairly certain I've tried this with the AI down to 75, where the a AI cars shouldn't be tuned at all, with the same results. I'll double check this just to be sure though.
Does anyone have any insight on this? Am I just bad at tuning or does the AI sort of exploit the physics a bit?
