I'm not sure if this subject pertains to this sub-forum, but I think it strictly deals on tuning so.., I have 2 questions about transmission/gear ratio tuning, and I'll appreciate anyone answering them :)

Question one is what's the difference between the last gear (...4th, 5th, 6th, 7th gear) and the Final Gear (just says Final Gear)?

And question two pertains the reference graph: The x-axis measure time and the y-axis measuring the RPM, correct? I asked this because whenever I modify the gear ratios, sometimes the reference lines moves close to a neighboring gear according to the gear ratio you set, like a higher ratio = closer to the next gear.

Note: I have a similar thread in the GT5 Tuning Forum, but it didn't get any replies. So I'm trying here :)

I think it's RPM and Velocity.

As for the final gear it's the gear ratio of the drive shaft into the differential.
Where there ratio of the selected gear multiplied by the final gear, gives you the ratio of engine to wheels.
Make sense?

Edit...

Say your ratios are as follows...
1st-4.164
final-3.429
Now multiply them both equals 14.388
That means, for every 14.388 revolutions of the crank shaft, the wheels rotate once.

One tip I learned that's really come in handy is to set up your transmission with the gear spacing you like, and then adjust the final drive to get the top speed you want for a given track. At Deep Forest for example at 550pp you might want a top speed of 280so you move the final gear ratio until the top speed is 280 km/h. Go to Tsukuba and want a top speed of 240? Leave the individual gears and top speed alone and just move the final gear ratio until you have a top speed of 240 km/h.

This way you only need set up the tranny once and adjust final gear ratio to suit the track.

Good advice but sometimes you find your self on a section of track that forces you inbeteen 2 gears so lenghtening of one or shortening another's can help after the initial tune.
