Hey Razor, seeing as your in auckland do you know of any modelshops that sell second hand R/C's??? and do they have a website, I tried http://www.hobbydirect.co.nz but they didnt have prices. Im interested in getting an R/C - what brand do you guys suggest?? I've looked at Tamiya, Kyosho and HPI's website and so far HPI's site is the best (information etc.) so Im pretty interested in getting an HPI if I can, waddya you think??

Streetracer, is the servo working? If is then the reciever must be getting power. If not, then use a battery box or the three step speed control to power the reciever so you can see if that is the problem. Also try running the motor direct off the battery as the motor could have died. If not, send your speedo back for repair:)

I purchased mine at Acorn Models. They are very friendly and helpful. Honestly I know very little about R/C manufacturers so recommending one would not be something I could do. I have a Tamiya and quite like it, though I am not hard core either.

Ok I'll try some things. My buddies coming over tonight to help me look at my Eclipse. He also knows about R/C's so I'll ask him to take a look at it.

I've got a Nitro rustler that's worth about $900. Not gonna bother listing everything, but it's got some good stuff in it :) Streetracer780, I don't feel like checking through the 12-quadbillion replies, but I'd bet you need to mess with gearing, not a better car and "engine". (motor) TA-04's are very competitive, common in the on-road electric scene, and there should be a class/es you can run it in at your local track/s. A good thing to remember, RC is supposed to be fun, so keep it that way ;) It's easy to get too into it, especially at the track..

also, streetracer780, as before, I don't wanna check through the pages of replies, (I hit this thread late, and just really hate going through that many replies), but if you wanna summarize here, or email me personally, your particular problem, (with teh steering or whatever it is), then I'd be glad to give whatever help I can. Oh, and nice ride Giles :)

Alright but I'm swaped right now with school so no time for the R/C. I'll get a chance though

I roll a Tamiya TG10R its a nitro TC3 killa.

Note the "R" in TG10R, it's of significant importance.

Novarossi .12 powered, Futaba 3PDF control.

Mugen, your sign name made me remember a gas-offroader that I longed after for quite a while. Can't quite remember the name, but it was Mugen's 1/8 scale offroad "truck", that came with the Toyota body on it. I really wanted to get that and paint it up like Ivan's truck of the time. Just couldn't afford 1/8 scale when I was 15, heh. (come to think of it, I still can't..getting a real car slowed down my hobby spending, and gave me a newer, much more expensive one, ;) ) Anybody seen the Connely video where they put their fully working 4-banger in the Mountanier? now THAT, was one awesome truck, and combination! Back right before they quit selling them, and OS first put out the LD style of the CZ-R, I was gonna get both of them and try and mount the LD up front, and make a working hood and air-feed to the filter. Soooo many ideas, SOOOOOOOOOOOOO little time :( Oh well, life goes on :)

I'm currently working on getting a grant, from school, to pay for that lil beast of a 4-stroke, just so I can play with it and have one for future projects :D Me and my friend have done alotta lil custom projects in the past, so I was thinking of maybe building a pickup frame, that would fit under say a Tamiya S-10 body, using some basic parts from other vehicals and having a front mounted .26 in it, with scale little side pipes and stuff :)

I'm back! Moved 220 miles from home to go to Liverpool John Moore uni so I have been unable to get on a computer untill now!

Giles Yes, the shop where I work does do Kyosho bits although we only have a limited number of Landmax parts.

Mason I will have to see the results of these mad plans, they sound awesome!

I have had to leave the majority of my R/C collection at home:( A frantic last week buying session has seen the collection rise to 26 cars. Due to space however, I only took up with my a 1/28th Kyosho Mini Z to play with. I am starting to iutch for something quicker though, so I may have to get a tenth scale car up here. Considered my Tamiya Mercedes C11 pan car with a 10 in it although it would be too low for the bumpy areas and too powerful (RWD, foam tyres 50+ MPH).

Well, the project is one of those that you think/design forever, during the lack of fundage stage. Then, you start spending $$$ on parts for it, even though you don't have it, and look at the parts for a while, before you actually have the time to build it ;) The hard part in any custom project is the tranny, but seeing as how there are so many center shaft 4wd RC's these days, I'm sure somthing could be adapted. (done a few, really basic, custom jobs in the past-thanks to metals classes) If/when I ever get it built though, I will definetely post her up on here :) As for the mini-z, I've been wanting to get one of those since they came out. (I wanted one of those 1/32' scale, or whatever, ones that came out years ago. you know, the ones that were 4" long, and advertised in B/W with a 300zx body on it. tried to actually get one and they were out of business) Only reason I haven't gotten the lil-z, is because whenever I've actually had some money to get one, I've wanted to buy most of the basic mods with it, and then I don't have enough $$$ anymore, lose my whim and spend the money on somthing a little larger, lol. Anywho, I feel ya on the lack of RC at college :(

Yeah, but think of it along the passageways of your hall of residence!

I agree mason, I've been saying to myself that Im gonna build my go-kart (with a motorcycle engine) as soon as I got an after-school job but I havent got one yet, I need to find the motivation. As for an R/C, I thinking of getting a Tamiya TL-01 (or similar model) once I get into Hong Kong or Singapore (2 week holiday up there) all I need to do now is convince my parents to give me money :P ;) You guys recommend any webpages I should look at before I get my R/C?? I found http://www.rcxotic.com to be very helpful, anybody know any more?

a little off topic, but I hear ya on the gocart thing :) ... I've been trying to build one for years, but never had the money..so this summer I made a welfare gocart :D Had this old electric wheelchair sitting around, (the three wheeled type, like a rascal but beefier built), and found an old 5hp Briggs&Stratton, at a shop for $20. Stripped the chair down to the frame, so it was frame, wheels and a seat bolted on, then mounted the Briggs between your legs, , found a perfect sized sprocket, from a 1957 tractor, (that was the exact same bolt pattern as the rearend), got some steel from a junkyard, got some chain and a new side-shaft clutch, did some stick welding and WALLAH! I've got a 38mph beast that's a blast to ride on :D Total cost for me was in the $75 range. That was for the engine, (which burns a lil oil, but not bad for $20, and is easily rebuilt), an old thumb throttle, some welding rods, chain, clutch and some paint. It's a faster than the typical gocart, and is fun to take through the outskirts of town, then take off when you see cop cars out looking for ya with the spotlights :D (has a 3", chrome, slash-cut tip hanging out the side  ) When I finally get the pics developed, I'll post em in here somewhere.. Wish I hadn't hacked up the harness to my spare 1.8L v6, now THAT, would make one heck of a custom beast :D

Don't have pics of her yet, but picture this hoss, but not flying through the air, and with a 5hp Briggs between the knees-oh, and with a 3" chrome, slash cut tip out the side :D

the first test-drives were without anything but a short header off the engine. problem-the exhaust exits STRAIGHT towards the nut region, and backfired/s :fire::fire:!!!:lol:
