I really hope nobody is feeling sorry for this piece of trash anymore. Feel sorry for his family, friends and those of the passenger but not him. 2.45x the legal limit ffs.

I mean, sure it's awful he died, but BAC of .196? I can't feel sorry for someone who does that.

People make bad choices; he made one that night. You can't call him a "piece of trash" for that; he is no longer with us, show some respect. Yes, it was a very stupid thing to have done.

What if it was one of your friends that died, or a family member of yours that this happened to? You wouldn't like to hear someone call them a "piece of trash."

I have very little respect for drunk drivers. Particularly a .196. Whether or not he died doesn't make me respect him more or less, as there's really none to begin with.

Thoughts?

WTF?! if this is real I've been like O.O since it happened, but I saw that I went :D for a second but then I thought it was a dumb prank, but if it isn't real, then RIP Ryan and the passenger Zach

Yep, what a piece of trash. Who did he think he was donating to charities or competing on game shows just so some kids in need could get some well-needed money.

Nobody will ever see Ryan as a role model, but he was far from a piece of trash, seeing as he apparently did more for others than some of the people here.
DUI? If that was the case, I'm glad that he took only one another person with him. I do feel sorry for the passenger, but I think the chances good that the passenger knew the risk he/she was taking?

Don't drink & drive. If you do it, kill yourself, well, what are you gonna do? But I hate it when you hit pedestrians, kill other drivers, etc. on the way out.
Really? Let me go find my gun safe right now so I can carry out your wish, regardless of the fact that I've never actually been anywhere near the legal limit.

I see your point, but you have to understand that me leaving a loaded gun unlocked with a child in the house is also a bad choice. We are educated to avoid these types of mistakes.

I do agree that name calling on dead DUI driver is bit much. But by needlessly putting yourself in a position where you could have killed some innocent people, you probably welcomed some of that.
Edit:

That is so funny, as I was just typing up my reply with gun being mentioned in it.

In regards to your post, you mistook what I was saying. If you do it(drink & drive), kill yourself(end up getting yourself killed, as in a car crash), well, what are you gonna do(I couldn't worry about your own life you took)?

I think you might want to be a little more clear because, "If you do it, kill yourself..." sounds like a pretty straight forward post instead of, "If you do it, & end up getting yourself killed..."

Edit* I hope my PM clears up what I'm trying to say. :indiff:

No, you are drinking right now. j/k

Takes a real jackass to have double the legal limit and decide to fly down the highway, let alone a Porsche 911 GT3...

Killing an innocent passenger is a cure?

Not necessarily innocent, if the passenger survived they could be prosecuted for aiding or allowing a crime to take place.
As a passenger you should take at least a glance at your driver to see if they look drunk or if you can smell any alcohol on their breath. If the passenger was themselves drunk, well I don't think that would be an excuse either as intoxication does not forgive you of any crimes.

My point was that most super-cars and luxury car-brands are generally as survivable at 110mph (where a 65% survival-rate would qualify as 'should survive'), just as the 'regular' passenger vehicles which get tested at 60mph, are supposed to be survivable at that 'high' end of the speed spectrum. (. . . Just as Formula 1 car drivers sustain 180mph crashes, or 168mph suspension pieces to the helmet.)

Even un-seatbelted accidents at 30mph are 70% survivable.

Perhaps Porsche should make their cars survivable in crashes up to 150mph—the GT3 is intended to be raced, which is also when wrecks happen—and with a car that light and a chassis that stiff, it shouldn't be far from achievable. If you're up to the engineering challenge of making a car go 190mph, you should also consider what happens when it loses control at that speed.

Were he not drunk, and if a deer or something had crossed the road causing him to swerve, this would be a completely different discussion.

it's more of a matter what you hit and how, you could have a fatal accident at 7mph or even walking speed.
I don't need to explain how it just depends on the situation.
Plain speeds can mean anything, A standard Lotus Elise or VW Golf could have a rocket attached to it and easily withstand a 1000 mile an hour crash. And the occupants just calmly get out afterwards, it depends on the crash.

I get the point you're making, but this is just a bit of hyperbole, don't you think?

The point is there to make the quotations of speeds of crashes as not that informative overall.
Schumacher hit a soft tyre barrier in his F1 car and broke his leg at 60mph, but his crash was 160mph. Which figure do you use, most people would not describe the tyres, other people might think it was a concrete wall at 160mph.
Things like that...
