PureGT_May vs GTP_timeattack vs GTRP_Madforce
Eliminated: GTP_timeattack
Well, the race was just as intense and dramatic as we expected it to be
Great fun even though I was eliminated
It was another one of those races that really could have gone in the favor of either one of us...this time I was the one of the receiving end of the bad luck though. So there's nothing to be ashamed of, especially when racing drivers the caliber of these two
Congratulations to MAY and Madforce for putting up a valiant effort to advance
I'll be cheering for you guys in the following rounds 👍
I'll just do a quick lap by lap summary of the race and let the videos do the rest of the speaking 👍
Don't mind me driving across the grass at a few points like a lawn mower at Degner and 130R
I hadn't gotten much seat time in the car in the past few weeks and was trying to push as hard as I could without going off
Just wanted to say sorry to MADFORCE and MAY for throwing up all that dust and what not
Lap 1: I had pole position so I led MAY and MADFORCE for the entirity of the first lap.
Lap 2: MAY and MAD had gotten a nice run on me approaching T1 going onto the 2nd lap. We were 3 wide entering T1 with myself on the outside, so I decided to sit back instead of trying something stupid and beaching it. MAD had held the lead through the chicane and went for his pit stop at the end of lap 2.
Lap 3: Now it was just MAY and myself out front after MAD had pitted. MAY ended up putting a wheel off at the exit of Degner 2, allowing me to pass him and get a 1 second lead or so. At the end of my lap I ended up pitting, just to get that out of the way and maintain my rhythm.
Lap 4: When I exited the pits I came out about a second behind the two, which I quickly made up as they were duking it out side by side. At the end of the lap MAY went for his pit stop.
Lap 5: Just me and MAD out front with MAY roughly 1.5-2 seconds behind and all of our pit stops out of the way.
Lap 6: This time MAD had a slight off at the exit of Degner 2 which allowed me to regain the lead, just as MAY had done earlier. This unfortunately (for MAD and myself) allowed MAY to get back within drafting distance of us, where he was able to quickly reel us in. I recall MAY saying he ran a 2'04.xxx on that lap with the help of our draft...so yea, try getting away from that in free air
Lap 7: MAY was now right up on our butts. MAD pulled a nice out braking move on me going into T1 to regain the lead. Later that lap I had gotten a nice run on MAD and was able to pass him just prior to 130R. It was really starting to become a scrap at this point
Lap 8: Both MAY and MAD were hot on my tail. Unfortunately MAY ended up rear ending me into the sand at T1. No biggie though, as he and MAD waited 👍 Later that lap I was able to get a run on MAD to pass him just prior to 130R again. He returned the favor with a superb inside outbraking move at the chicane to recapture the lead going onto lap 9 👍
Lap 9: The real turning point of the race. At this point the positions were MAD, me, MAY exiting Spoon. I decided to bumpdraft MAD as we approached 130R, as I didn't want to pass him to soon and end up in the unfavorable 3rd place going onto the last lap. I was hoping to make the move to reclaim first heading down the main straight going onto lap 10, but that never happened.
What happened next is a bit controversial IMO, especially considering the earlier incident we had when I had gotten pushed off by MAY under braking into T1. I was as close as possible to MAD's bumper as we hit the entry point for 130R. MAY decided to stick his nose in under me, forcing me to back off, otherwise I would have likely wound up being pushed off track. I ended up backing off politely and let MAY go through. What happened next was a bit unfortunate for the both of us and particularly me, as I ended up getting the short end of the stick in the end. Because MAY was on the inside of 130R his cornering speed and line were of course less than ideal. I was on the outside and had the superior line of course. I ended up taking the corner a bit too fast considering MAY was on the line that forced him to go slower to make the corner. I ended up accidentally nudging MAY slightly, which caused him to run a bit wide and put a wheel off at the exit of 130R. As you can tell in the video, it was just enough to spin him out though
After the accident, I pulled over and waited for MAY and let him regain his position.
Lap 10: Now it was just me and MAY fighting it out for the advancing position
... while MAD had a comfortable lead after the previous incident involving MAY and myself. I was right on MAY's tail up until the hairpin. The hairpin was the REAL deal breaker for me though. I came in the hairpin pretty aggressively, while MAY went through a lot slower than usual it seemed. I ended up getting jammed up and out of late reaction drove a bit into the grass to avoid hitting MAY in the rear...this totally killed my momentum exiting the hairpin
The jam up was just enough to give MAY a nice gap up to Spoon. Not sure if it was his plan to hold me up at the chicane, but it definitely was a good game plan if he did 👍
I was able to make up about 1-2 cars through the spoon complex, but it wasn't enough to be able to make a pass on MAY going down the straight, prior to 130R. At this point my only option left was to outbrake one of the best GT drivers in the world going into the chicane. MAY wisely stuck to the inside under braking going into the chicane and defended his position nicely. At that point it didn't look like MAY was going to make any mistakes exiting the chicane, so my chances of advancing were falling out of reach at this point. I ended up crossing the line 2 tenths behind MAY...the end of the road for me in the ROC
Here are the videos 👍 I had to separate them into 2 parts do to YT 11 minute video limit. Sorry for all of the racket in the background! I should have closed my windows as the blinds kept banging against the window due to the wind outside...rrrrrr.
