Event #6/ Race #1 Recap

250404 - Spotter guide Event #6.png

Preamble:
The 2024 Michelin Pilot Challenge is already winding down as we head to Barcelona for Event #6 of #7 and everything is still to play for.

The changes to the grid are are as follows:
Qualifying Table:
SHARE_20250405_0455260.jpeg

SHARE_20250405_0455520.jpeg

I don't have a replay for the qualifying session but the numbers seem odd to me simply because I've spent much time in practice lobbies this week and have seen @DublDee , @CdnSweetTee and @Mac1032763 put in many laps in the 1:52's. What I didn't expect was to see some 1:51's but that's exactly what @radliffracing and @Bologna_Duc did to get themselves on the front row.

So congrats to @radliffracing claiming pole for himself and Toyota. Through 6 Events, Chevrolet (@Bologna_Duc x 2) has two poles, McLaren (@JDMKING13), AMG (@THMP), BMW (@Kgffy) and Toyota (@radliffracing) each have one.

Event #6 / Race #1:

LAP #1:
It's lights out at Catalunya. @radliffracing and @Bologna_Duc start on the front row and behind them is @THMP and @JDMKING13 . By Turn 1, some of the higher powered cars benefit from the long straight and gain some spots but the grid gets through the first few turns cleanly.
SHARE_20250405_1056370.jpeg

LAP #1:
I thought I'd throw this one in for the heck of it. One of these is not like the others.
SHARE_20250405_1057120.jpeg

LAP #1:
At the chicane near the end of lap #1, we've got our first issue. @Kgffy 's BMW was bumped upon entry and sent across where he T-Boned @llNovall 's BMW all the way to the fence. I believe @Mac1032763 and @MrDonovan might have hit a sideways @Kgffy . @CdnSweetTee had to ease off and managed to narrowly avoid @Kgffy .
SHARE_20250405_1057370.jpeg

LAP #2 - The Snail Way
The previous sequence led to an unsupported call for caution that might have caused radio confusion. @radliffracing entered caution protocol by mistake which allowed @Bologna_Duc to periodically take the lead. When it became clear that no caution was issued, a classy @Bologna_Duc gave the position back to @radliffracing in what is yet another display of "The Snail Way" and earns himself consideration for the "Driver of the Race" award.
SHARE_20250405_1058030.jpeg

LAP #3:
Things finally settle down and drivers are finding their race pace. @radliffracing still leads the group being chased by @THMP who managed to overtake @Bologna_Duc . @bublyman and @Noob01_lmdead round off the top 5.
SHARE_20250405_1058290.jpeg

LAP #5:
At this point, the best battle on the grid is for 5th place between @Noob01_lmdead and @JDMKING13. They would go on and trade positions and paint for a couple laps.
SHARE_20250405_1058530.jpeg

LAP #7:
@Noob01_lmdead comes out ahead from the previous battle but later in lap #7 he gets his tires slightly off-track and causes a loss of grip for the side-by-side action he had with @socalnatv. Maybe too eager on the throttle, he ends up spinning at Turn 4. He'd rejoin the race in 11th spot.
SHARE_20250405_1059160.jpeg

LAP #8:
By now I assume it's getting pretty hot in @radliffracing 's cockpit. He still leads but it must be difficult ignoring what's happening just behind him. @Bologna_Duc got a great run down the straight and with slipstream, managed to overtake @THMP by Turn 1 of Lap 8. @socalnatv can be seen running 5th in the distance. This would be the start of a really intense lap between @Bologna_Duc , @THMP and @bublyman.

SHARE_20250405_1059550.jpeg

LAP #8:
At the start of sector 3 of Lap 8, @bublyman managed to move into 3rd and it was @THMP 's turn to go off-track. He does quite well avoiding a disastrous spin by riding the wall but the loss of grip and momentum would drop him to 6th.
SHARE_20250405_1100160.jpeg

LAP #9:
The helicopter has got fantastic ariel coverage of this sequence featuring @CdnSweetTee , running 9th and taking the wide line in a 3-wide battle with @Kgffy and @Noob01_lmdead . @llNovall and the fans on the grassy hill are all appreciating the action.
SHARE_20250405_1100450.jpeg

LAP 12:
@radliffracing is still getting the job done. Considering @Bologna_Duc and @bublyman are the two trying to run him down, he's kept his focus on the task at hand as the laps go by.
SHARE_20250405_1101440.jpeg

LAP #15:
This seems to be a regular occurrence all season long. @llNovall and @Kgffy pushing their BMW's to the limit, and beyond, as they're engaged in a head-to-head battle.
SHARE_20250405_1102160.jpeg

LAP #17:
@radliffracing has arrived. He sees the checkered flag despite a very strong push on the last lap by @Bologna_Duc . He goes wire to wire to give himself, and Toyota their first wins of the season and bags the extra points for the fastest lap.
SHARE_20250405_1102360.jpeg

@Bologna_Duc and @bublyman will join @radliffracing on the podium. @socalnatv and @JDMKING13 round off the top 5 positions.

Event #6 / Race #1 Broadcast:

Driver of the Race Award:
As I review the replay a few times to pull pictures and to record the broadcast, things stand out to me so I give a shout-out to the following drivers for their performance in Event #6 / Race #1:
  • @radliffracing - Not simply for the win but managing to keep @Bologna_Duc and @bublyman behind him is quite an accomplishment. I hope the pool of sweat built-up in his VR goggles isn't big enough to malfunction them.
Honorable mention to @Bologna_Duc for the sustained pressure applied during the course of the race and for the noble actions during the false caution sequence of Lap 2.

Final Thoughts:
  • An unfortunate disconnect by @Mac1032763 early on in this one meant our grid was down to 15 drivers by Lap 3 or 4.
  • @radliffracing and @Bologna_Duc were clearly the two fastest in this one. They're the only two drivers to get into the 1:51s, both in Qualifying and in the race.
  • A big win for Toyota. They join McLaren, Aston Martin, Chevrolet, BMW and AMG in the winners circle.
  • Frustrated about the PP Penalty / PP Premium applied to you in this series? Come test yourself in Snail's Sunday Night SPEC League. We've had double digit grids in both divisions for the last month and 2 newbies expressed interest this past week in joining. Your participation is welcomed as a full-timer or a part-timer.
That's how I interpreted Event #6 / Race #1.

To late to get on the list for next season?
Hi Antman,
We are going into our final event in a few weeks, and we currently have a full grid confirned plus a reserve at the moment. You're welcome to sign up and go through the process, but there is onlyba small chance of making a spot on the grid for our finale. Once this series is complete, we move to the Porsche Cup series you just signed up for in the other thread. I usually rotate back and forth between a one make Cup and the Michelin Pilot Challenge multi-make series, running one of them at a time. Start working on the Time trial and a livery for your Porsche as that series will be on us very soon. If you need any help on a livery, please inquire and if any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Also, I'm sure there will be drivers testing and running laps to get acclimated to the Porsche on the lead up to our first event. Looking forward to having you with our series.

thank u for the info and a special thanks for your hard work and dedication helping the rest of us to have fun.

You know, if you guys have the time and still have those Car builds from this series initial direction:

Wouldn't mind an impromptu race.

Latest two builds I am very proud of.

Post Race Report and Scoring
Event #6 at Barcelona GP

Barcelona created some instense battles across the grid. Qualifying and fast laps were spread out a bit across the field with the McLarens and Corvettes making a very strong statement. The BMW, however, was a struggle to find the performance. Qualifying was total bust for me. I was well into the 1:52's with a best in lapping practice of a 52'5, but was not able to find it during qualifying landing in 11th place with a 1:53.3. Not the start I was hoping for. I had some good battles in Race 1 on my recovery run from 16th to 10th after a lap one incident that I was unlucky to get caught up in. But, it was Race 2 that was the stressor for me. Starting 6th in Race 2, I worked my way to 2nd place early only to slide a few postions back to 5th. From the beginning of this race, I was under constant pressure by 5 different drivers, having to race defensively while trying to chase down the front runners. With heavy pressure, I was able to capitalize on an off track of my teammate to take 4th place with 2 laps to go, and then locked into trying to run down @DublDee for 3rd. After closing in over the final two laps and now on the final lap, a small shake of Dub's rear on the exit of T9 (Campsa) was enough to give me a run and the advantage onto the back straight for me get the overlap and race into the T10 braking zone. Once through on an inside pass, I was able to lock it down for a 3rd place finish in R2. This had to have been one f the most challenging and stressful races I can remember in quite some time. That was my race night, and I know there is too much else to highlight, but take a look at the replays...certainly worth the watches.

With Worstdriver's absence and some clutch racing performances by those in the hunt, our standings on many key positions are up for grabs. 13 points seperate the top 4 drivers, with 4 points seperating 5th-8th. Our final event at Spa has implications for so many Overall postions, including the Championship.

Race broadcasts and race re-caps are linked below, compliments of @Buffalo_DRD .....Great work as always sir. Also, for anyone interested, you can view the actual in-game replays through the search tag: snailmpc. Feel free to elaborate on any battles/exchanges you may have shared for this event.
Despite a few incidents, overall it was a great night of racing.

Minimal lag/jittering was present across the field, but was overall manageable.

Now for Scoring:
Congratulations to Ridger23 / @bublyman (#7) on another Overall Win on the night.
Great work!!

Also, Congratulations to our Top 3 Overall:
1st: Ridger23 / @bublyman (#7)

Rules and requirements:
To maintain accuracy and integrity to this recognition, drivers who choose to add their standing to their car will be required to submit an updated profile picture before each event with their scrutineering tuning sheet. Submissions will be reviewed post event just as I do for the driver regulations.
If a driver forgets to submit the car picture with a standing displayed or has the wrong standing placement displayed , it will result in a 5 point penalty against the overall event score. This has to be in place to ensure that those who want to display their standing, maintains the attention and accuracy for it to be credible.
If choosing to display, be sure your edited livery is correct, accurate, and saved prior to each event. If unsure or not interested in displaying your standing, simply leave it blank or just apply double zeros.
The profile pictures will not be used for the Driver profile page, only for scrutineering to maintain the integrity of this recognition.
Again, this is optional, but if done correctly, it will be a great way to know who is where in the standings as the season unfolds.

Track Map and Boundaries

Keep 2 wheels on or within the white line where curbing is not present, or on the curbs (includes inner secondary curbing/sausage curbs) where they are present, at all times or except where it is specifically noted otherwise. The white line and curbing is considered legal track surface. For our series, the white line signifying the pit exit lane will not be observed as OOBs. The white line at the track edges are the observed OOB limits. Failure to comply to track boundaries could result in penalties if infractions are witnessed and reported.

Exceptions and Specified areas:
NO EXCEPTIONS for this track. Spa has alot of paved run off areas. Drivers must make every attempt to keep at least two tires on the acceptable curbing or on/inside the white line. Any OOB violations that are reported and to be found to have enabled an advantage will result in a penalty.

REMINDER
For any drivers that care to participate in displaying their Driver Standing for next event, please see the spoiler tab below for details. Please verify your current driver standing on the driver profile page (3rd Post in this thread) or quick reference it in the Spotters Guide above. Event #6 - Barcelona GP

Event #6/ Race #2 Recap

250404 - Spotter guide Event #6.png

Preamble:
Apologies for the delay in this one.

The grid for Race #2 is setup in reverse order. That means @Wetroadracer and @CdnSweetTee will line up on the front row. @cesarr64 and @RACECAR will be behind them in the 2nd row. The two BMW's of @Kgffy and @llNovall will be on the 3rd row.

This race goes off with 15 drivers as @Mac1032763 did not reconnect after his unfortunate disconnect in Race #1.

Event #6 / Race #2

LAP #1:
The action gets underway for Race #2. No major incident through the first few turns. @RACECAR has dropped a few spots but @Wetroadracer and @CdnSweetTee maintain their spots at the front of the grid.
SHARE_20250412_0259020.jpeg

LAP #1:
The grid still intact towards the end of sector #1, @Kgffy gets a bump from the that would send him into the sand. He'd rejoin the action in last place.
SHARE_20250412_0259370.jpeg

LAP #1 - Lead Change:
For a few turns, @Wetroadracer and @CdnSweetTee would battle for the lead but a well positioned @Noob01_lmdead would take advantage and claim it for himself.
SHARE_20250412_0300030.jpeg

LAP 2:
@Kgffy is back in the saddle and catches up rather quickly with the rear of the grid. A missed breaking point would send @THMP into the sand at turn 1 of Lap 2.
SHARE_20250412_0300280.jpeg

LAP #4:
@Noob01_lmdead still leads but the battle for 2nd is read-hot. It's been exchanged a few times between @CdnSweetTee and her beau @DublDee, but right behind them is @llNovall, @Buffalo_DRD and @bublyman. The person benefiting the most from this fight is @Noob01_lmdead who continues to pad a lead for himself.
SHARE_20250412_0300480.jpeg

LAP #6:
@DublDee creates a little breathing room for himself and @llNovall is behind him in 3rd. Cars in 4th position through 7 are all bunched together and @JDMKING13 in 8th is not far behind.
SHARE_20250412_0301100.jpeg

LAP #7:
More of the same. @Noob01_lmdead is still leading but positions 2 through 7 are bunched together, @Buffalo_DRD lost 2 critical positions on this turn at the beginning of sector 3 on lap 7.
SHARE_20250412_0301310.jpeg

LAP #7:
Event #6 proved frustrating for @Kgffy. Bumps early on in both races have pushed him towards the rear of the grids, forcing him to push hard to get himself back into the action. On lap 6, he gets his tires a little dirty which prompts him going wide at some point and decides to retire the car.
SHARE_20250412_0301490.jpeg

LAP #9:
@Noob01_lmdead is still enjoying a good for himself and @DublDee managed to separate himself from the peloton. At turn 1 of lap 9 @llNovall is engaged with @bublyman trying to hang onto his 3rd position. The Corvettes of @socalnatv and @Bologna_Duc are running 5th and 6th. The McLaren's of @Buffalo_DRD and @JDMKING13 are in 7th and 8th and @RACECAR has also caught up with the group.
SHARE_20250412_0543120.jpeg

LAP #9:
This pic puts the front of the grid in perspective and illustrates the type of racing that is possible in this series. We can see the cushion that @Noob01_lmdead and @DublDee, to a lesser extent have built for themselves while cars 3 through 6 are all bumper to bumper well past the middle point of the race.
SHARE_20250412_0543380.jpeg

LAP #9:
The intense racing between @llNovall, @socalnatv, @bublyman and @Bologna_Duc have allowed @JDMKING13, @Buffalo_DRD and @RACECAR to join the party. At this point, we've got cars in 3rd through 9th place within 1.5 seconds of each other.
SHARE_20250412_0543550.jpeg

LAP #11:
A few laps later at the same spot on the track, the order has changed a little and the peloton has managed to catch-up and swallow up @DublDee but the cars are still bunched together.
SHARE_20250412_0544150.jpeg

On a personal note, I ultimately finished behind all of the drivers in these recent pictures and at times was hanging on for dear life but these laps were the highlight of my season. Door to door and bumper to bumper action with everybody's racing lines being respected.

LAP #14:
Checking in with our leader, all of the fighting between positions 2 through 9 has allowed @Noob01_lmdead to build a lead that only a self-inflicted critical mistake can cause him to lose it. At this time, @socalnatv is in 2nd place being chased by @bublyman.
SHARE_20250412_0544330.jpeg

LAP #15:
A lap later, @socalnatv got his tires dirty, his car a little unsettled and ended up wide into the sand. He avoids a big mistake but his chance at a podium disappears. He'd drop from 2nd to 5th.

LAP #15:
Good racing action is also occurring near the back of the grid as @cesarr64 is defending his 11th place from @THMP. @THMP did manage to take the position shortly afterwards.

LAP #17:
The checkered flag goes to @Noob01_lmdead. He claims his first win of the season with a comfortable margin in this one. He took the lead mid-way through lap 1 and hung onto it until the end. He's a regular during the mid-week practices and this one is well-deserved.

@bublyman finishes 2nd and @llNovall managed to pass @DublDee a few corners from the end on the last lap to claim the 3rd spot on the podium. @Bologna_Duc rounds off the top 5.

Event #6 / Race #2 Broadcast:

Driver of the Race Award:
As I review the replay a few times to pull pictures and to record the broadcast, things stand out to me so I give a shout-out to the following drivers for their performance in Event #5 / Race #1:
  • @Noob01_lmdead - He led for 16.5 laps therefore deserves it. Although his lead might have been unchallenged at times, going 16.5 laps without a mistake is impressive.
Honorable mention goes out to drivers positioned from 2nd place to 9th place which at times were separated by no more than 2 seconds but all managed to race incident free for lap after lap.

Final Thoughts:
  • Event #6 proved to be pretty good for @radliffracing. He wins Race #1 and sweeps the points awarded for fastest laps in qualifying and in both races.
  • Chalk up another win for McLaren. They've got 5 wins (@bublyman x2, @JDMKING13, @Buffalo_DRD & @Noob01_lmdead) Aston Martin (@Worst_Driver x2) and AMG (@DublDee / @THMP) each have each have 2 wins while Chevrolet (@Bologna_Duc) BMW (@llNovall) and Toyota (@radliffracing) each have 1.
  • No need to recap the standings as @llNovall has posted them yesterday but several drivers still in contention for the championship.
  • In Race #2's postrace chat, @Noob01_lmdead has credited Snail's Sunday Spec League with helping him hone in on his skills. Our streak of double digit drivers across both divisions continues. Get your TT's in tonight to reserve your spot on the grid for tomorrow.
That's how I interpreted Event #6 / Race #2
