GTP_LinPark vs GTRP_RudiRaser (winner)
Both of us chose Evo's (big surprise there I'm sure) and the grid ended up with 3 other drivers. We both moved over and assumed our grid positions though one of the guys hung around the first grid spot near me but eventually moved off.
Rudi got the better jump but fell in behind me for turn 1 and we were away. Even with a 20 second delay we had caught the other 3 drivers by Spoon of lap 1 so you can guess at the quality of their driving prowess. I was still in the lead with Rudi hot in pursuit so I made the decision to attempt to pass them. They seemed to have very laggy connections and one of them ended up pushing me off the left side. Fortunately the Evo held its ground pretty well and I went through 130R in fairly good shape - the other 3 drivers all went off track and Rudi came through cleanly.
Rudi passed me on the straight that started Lap 2 and I stayed with him until Spoon where I got close enough and a good run out to pass him on the way to 130R.
Good racing to start lap 3 and all the way to Degner where I went in a little too hot and gave Rudi the chance to pull up alongside me going into Hairpin. Miraculously for me and out of pure skill for Rudi, we came out of Hairpin side by side with no contact and raced down 200R to spoon - Rudi got the better jump out of Hairpin so he took the lead.
I then followed Rudi closely all the way to Spoon Lap 4 - I went in slightly hot and subsequently let 3 (maybe 4) wheels go off track. Rudi executed a perfect spoon and put about 2.5 seconds between us as part of my mishap.
That was really all it took - I then started pushing too hard trying to catch up which led to slower laps in the end for me - Rudi had built to a 3.5 second lead by lap 6 but hadn't pitted so I went into the pits.
I believe Rudi pitted to end lap 7 and came out with about a 4 second lead. The last 3 laps he added to that lead thanks to some minor mistakes by me pushing the understeer nightmare that is the Evo too hard. He crossed the line about 7 to 8 secs ahead of me to take the win.
Overall for me, this competition was a great experience - I can't believe I made it this far and I can't believe I hung with Rudi for 3 laps ( I still suspect he wasn't trying those 3 laps but instead was chugging a beer and smoking a cig while steering with his feet ).
THANKS to Jack for setting all this up!!! Congrats to all that made it through this round and I look forward to getting in more of these online racing competitions.
👍
EDIT: Thanks for the well wishes Tizzla (I think) but clearly it didn't help - I really wish you would've showed up with your punter alias and taken Rudi out for me.
