Rallying in GT5.

But isn't rally held on point-to-point tracks not circuits? I thought the only rally events held on circuits are Super Special Stages, and Eiger Nordwand definitely doesn't look like your typical SS Stage

You have to admit Eiger has alot of height difference in a short distance, and all those U turns, so I think it could be called a 'rally' event.

That's one of the stand out features of Laguna Seca too though, which is a full on racing circuit. Eiger would be considered a Super Special stage, if anything. But, most SS stages are like the crossover races in Dirt. Two cars race against each other, but start on different ends of a really condensed track.

I want to do this:)

What i really want is some point to point races. if you ever played ATV off road fury 4, those are the races i am talking about. i have always enjoyed the rally races in the GT series and they deserve more attention.

To all the people wanting Bikes in Gran Turismo.

I have a strong feeling most of you have never ridden a bike. It is a totally different experience that you cant compare to a car. Two very different things.

Putting a bike and a car and a racetrack has never before happened.

Why................?

Cause if a car and a bike hit each other...............The bike will always lose.

So if you in your ENZO miss the turn and hit the CBR... guess what, rider and bike = dead.

There is a reason Tourist Trophy exists and hopefully it will start a GT like world for Motorcycles.

But...... The two should never meet.

Back on topic though.

I would like to see rallying in GT have special stages. It is really more of a time trial like raced.

You by yourself with different stage times.

Include Water puddles, 180` degree u turns like in that vid. Snow. And real world dirt along with the car looking dirty after the event.

Oh also, with the inclusion of interior views. Have to co driver read the map of what is coming.

Heh, I do that all the time.

I just bought he game DIRT off ebay and am waiting for it to arrive. I bought it mainly ecause I love TOCA so much and since they designed this game I expect ti to e just as good and realistic as TOCA3. My favorite view in TOCA three is fro inside the car where you see part of the rollcage on the left/right side. It lends a more reaistic feel to rhe game. I have high expectations for the rally event. I have found that Rallying in the GT series is more lame than anything else. In fact the cars ehve exactly as they do in my old Nintendo 64 game Vrally 2000. The physics arfe off the cars don't behave att all they way they should PD has a lot to do to make GT a more realistic game. It is a damn good game, but realistic only to a point.

I hope Rally never shows up again in GT series.
And no bikes too, even if I'm a real life biker and have been on track with my bikes.
These are totally different worlds.
I prefer PD to develop different titles, like GT and TT, and maybe a rallying title even.

Instead I would rather have Kart racing in GT5, because Karting is where everyone starts. Not the Sunday Cup :)

Rally: This type of racing should definitely be carried over to GT5, but I would like more focus on long point-to-point tarmac rallies. I just love the tight, twisty roads, and unfortunately GT4 only has two tracks that offer it. Inclusion of the full Pikes Peak course, in both paved and dirt versions, would be great as well.

Bikes: These are also a must, imo. I don't want bikes to be able to race cars, but they would be an awesome addition to the game. The only exception to that 'no bikes vs cars' rule would be an online free-roam where people could drive both vehicle types around the Ring. Now that would be truly amazing.

^^ This man is correct.
Long windy roads are a must for rally, 1 lap racing roads would be sweet. Maybe going up a mountain etc. Pikes peak would be so awesome.

Not True. I raced when I was 18 on the SCCA circuit with my Uncle. I have NEVER ran a kart of any kind. I started out in a 1981 VW Scirocco in the ITB class. If I had the money I'd do ity again but man the netry fees alone are morethan a even a journeyman plasterer could afford.

If we get Rally, it should be one of two things:
1) Tight tracks like in GT4, you against the clock.
2) Open tracks like the multi-car tracks in Dirt or TOCA 3.

The main problem I had with rally in GT4 is that the tracks are not even wide enough for 2 cars, but you are expected to pass a car on the track without hitting it. I could barely pass the EASY rallies.

I would like to see most rally races done in a checkpoint fasion, each player starting 10 or so second inbetween each other. But would like it balanced with from a stop races where you have to overtake.

im sorry guys but those of you arguing that you couldn't have bikes in GT because the physics are different are out of your tree...

thats like saying... woh!, you cant have guns and grenades in the same game, the physics are completely different... woh! you cant have planes and helicopters in the same game, the physics are completely different..

Its a computer program guys, these sort of extreme craazzzyy if/or cases are pretty workable..

...

PD already showed 2 years ago, GT running with bikes and cars on the same track at the same time (slaps face)

how do you you guys manage to comprehend GTA? cars, bikes, people, boats... OMG, at the same time.. impossible!!!

...

I think most of the resistance is coming from people with perverse 100%% completion obsessions who dont want to have deal with bikes..

think of GT as a platform, not a start->end game...
bikes should absolutely be in there...

perhaps the best mid-ground would be for TT to be DLC for GT rather than a standalone game..

which is incidentely the direction I think the whole game should go...
basics included..
F1, bikes, rally etc etc as DLC overlays..

Problem with that is that was a tech demo, which does not represent the final product of GT5 and was just thrown together for E3. Besides, GTA isn't a true driving game so that doesn't even count.

I think people just don't want another Midnight Club(which is horrible from what I've played) they want a GT game. I personally don't have a hate for bikes and I don't see anyone else that does, Its just an absurd idea which hasn't worked for PGR4, at least to me.

Again, why Bikes in a "GT" game? That just contradicts calling it GT. At least F1 cars, Rally cars, and Drag are still Cars s othere fore stay true t other game. I think the only reason people want bikes in the game is because of what they saw with PGR4, same as people who want damage just because Forza has it. I don't whats with people wanting to change GT.

Oh and BTW, this is the "Rallying in GT5" thread, not the "Bikes in GT5?" thread.

Its makes sense to have Bikes in GT because everything surrounding them is the same..
then run on the same tarmac tracks, they race the same style of races, they fit in with the same GT buy/sell system.. the only difference is they have 2 wheels...

rally cars on the other other hand require a completely separate set of tracks, a completely different race style..
TT was a better bike game and had far more in common with the rest of GT (which is really a track day sim) than the weird tacked on half baked rally stuff...

===

as for me tooism...
Damage in GT has zero to with forza, its been obvious from day 1 on the PS1 that GT needed damage.. and frankly it should have had it back then, the PS1 was perfectly capable of damage that would have fit in with the level of realism GT1 had to offer..

TT made it clear GT should have had bikes.. not PGR

"Again, why Bikes in a "GT" game? That just contradicts calling it GT. At least F1 cars, Rally cars, and Drag are still Cars"

actually none of those disciplines fit the term GT

No it doesn't because Bikes and cars do not compete in real motorsports. They never will either, you will never see a racing event where half the grid consists of cars and the other half bikes. For GT to include bikes it blows thew whole concept of believability out of the window. GT is a simulator, that's not to say it doesn't make any concessions for the games sake, but that doesn't mean it does a deliberate u-turn on believability either.

The term Gran Turismo, or GT as it's abbreviated to is actually very broad. It largly refers to Grand Touring car or GT cars but it's overall meaning (which is exclusive to automobiles) covers everything from hatchbacks up. You know the Golf GTi, guess where the GT comes from. In many respect you can actually link the term GT to enjoyable or spirited driving through the various uses of the term.

you will never see a racing event where half the grid is LMP1 and half is showroom stock golfs either... yet they exist perfectly happily in the same game currently....
GT4 was full of cars that couldn't be raced against each-other... hell some of them had 3 wheels and were made of wood...

I mean seriously.. 95% of the scenarios in GT NEVER happen in real life...

seriously, look at GT5P... how many of the events in that game simulate a real event?
maybe hot lapping by yourself, improving your times around fuji?....(although most track days wont let you time yourself)
but 16 people in bone stock showroom cars.... racing? on a closed street circuit in london?
its all fantasy nonsense...
its cool, its fun... but its all nonsense..
with the exception of maybe 6 cars in the whole game you couldn't legally race any of them anywhere in the developed world for safety reasons..

Ok listen.

GT5 will have damage.

You think PD is going to have you wreck your bike, smash it into a wall, and throw the rider 100 feet on the ground as the cars behind you start to run the rider over.

Its just not gonna effin' happen. Wait for another TT
GT games is about cars, sorry to burst your bubble.

AND THIS IS A GOD DAMN RALLY THREAD STOP GOING OFF TRACK!

I really dont get the argument about bikes and cars on the same track at the same time...
Yes... obviously you dont race bikes and cars together..
its a strawman..
nobody is asking for that, it would be stupid... just like racing the f2007 or an LMP1 class car against a golf or a skyline would be...

the logic for bringing the two together, and the argument against rally.. is that they share everything else... road cars and road bikes use what.... roads... a massive chunk of what makes GT, GT, is the tracks.. the tarmac tracks..
TT probably wouldn't have been a viable product if it didnt borrow most of its assets from GT... which begs the question, why not, in this next gen DLC world, just merge them...

Rally on the other hand is a different beast.. so different its usually treated as a different game..
Do you imagine the people over in the DiRT forum are pushing to have the Veyron in DiRT 2?
no, because it doesn't fit with anything else in the game....

every vehicle in GT and TT, uses the same tracks... except Rally..
every track they put time into for Rally is ONLY usable by rally cars..
.. with bikes, even if they added the most quintessentially bike track, the Isle of Mann TT circuit, it would still be a blast with any of the cars from GT...
