Rallying in GT5.

I really dont get the argument about bikes and cars on the same track at the same time...
Yes... obviously you dont race bikes and cars together..
its a strawman..
nobody is asking for that, it would be stupid... just like racing the f2007 or an LMP1 class car against a golf or a skyline would be...

the logic for bringing the two together, and the argument against rally.. is that they share everything else... road cars and road bikes use what.... roads... a massive chunk of what makes GT, GT, is the tracks.. the tarmac tracks..
TT probably wouldn't have been a viable product if it didnt borrow most of its assets from GT... which begs the question, why not, in this next gen DLC world, just merge them...

Rally on the other hand is a different beast.. so different its usually treated as a different game..
Do you imagine the people over in the DiRT forum are pushing to have the Veyron in DiRT 2?
no, because it doesn't fit with anything else in the game....

every vehicle in GT and TT, uses the same tracks... except Rally..
every track they put time into for Rally is ONLY usable by rally cars..
.. with bikes, even if they added the most quintessentially bike track, the Isle of Mann TT circuit, it would still be a blast with any of the cars from GT...
True. In that case they would have to disable the ability to have a bike and car on the same track. Like during 2 player, once the first player picks a bike, then 2nd player can only pick a bike as well.
This could definitely work as DLC.

there are some menu screenshots here:

But i cant seem to find any of the ones with both on track at the same time..
IIRC they were of the race mod R1 and some car on the tokyo street track..

=====

in my search i also found this tidbit from an interview with KY at 1UP

1UP: I know some of the same art assets were used in Tourist Trophy from Gran Turismo. From here do you see it becoming its own franchise, or is this more an experiment to see how it goes and then you'll decide at that point?

KY: Back at the studio, Polyphony, we do have test machines where we can display both cars and bikes on the same tracks, just for experiment purposes. Perhaps maybe in the future we might have a title where we have both. This time around, the reason why they've been separated is only a technical reason, with these performance limitations with the PlayStation 2.

Gran Turismo has always been The Driving Simulator not the Riding Simulator. Stuff having bikes on it. Tourist Trophy 2 is a far better prospect.

Proper rally stages would be good but if they're going to keep the circuits then the physics would need improvement.

Gran Turismo should be just THAT. GT racing.

No rally. Hell no bikes! Save it for another game!

I disagree.....I is GT but it is a car game full of everything car wise.

They put a 1886 Mercedes in GT4!

Rallying is just as important as circuit racing so most def needs to stay.

For Bikes......Im more excited about Tourist Trophy 2 than GT5.

Adding bikes would require a whole different style of career mode, two separate license centers, and something to prevent them from racing at the same time. Honestly it would just be better to make TT2. A lot of people (including me) who aren't as fond a bikes will be rather annoyed if they are forced to use them to complete the game.

Obviously the level is different, but I'm just saying that I hate racing with bikes, regardless of the game.

Its makes sense to have Bikes in GT because everything surrounding them is the same..
then run on the same tarmac tracks, they race the same style of races, they fit in with the same GT buy/sell system.. the only difference is they have 2 wheels...

rally cars on the other other hand require a completely separate set of tracks, a completely different race style..
TT was a better bike game and had far more in common with the rest of GT (which is really a track day sim) than the weird tacked on half baked rally stuff...
However, Rally cars are cars so would fit more securly then Bikes would.

TT made it clear GT should have had bikes.. not PGR

Exactly how? because TT shared almost everything except for its physics and vehicles with GT?

actually none of those disciplines fit the term GT
Actually in a indirect way, they do. GT is often associated with Autobile racing or vehicles wth four wheels and all for of those disciplines have exactly that in common. Also, the fact that they are vehicles which are driven(hence its a "driving Simulator") does make them fit GT. Bikes are what you ride and Cars are what you drive and having bikes on "The Real Driving Simulator" wouldn't make since. Even if they do share the same tarmac tracks, they require very different ways of racing.

Now again, This is the "Rallying in GT5" thread. If you would like to continue this debate, then do so in the "Motorcycles In GT5?" Thread.

Nope I don't own TT, not into racing bikes, just boring IMO. I prefer racing with cars instead.

The only time I use bikes is in Grand Theft Auto.

hmm....difference of opinion there......i havn't missed a motogp or world sbk race in 5 years.

TT is worth a shot though just to support PD and to see what you think..... i got alot of guys who arn't into racing games playin TT.

To give you a good reason watch this.

800cc = 200HP! / 250hp from the 990cc bikes from 2006!

I personally do want to see rally racing in GT5. It's car racing and it's fun. But in truth, it's pretty much required that they have it in a point-to-point time trial format, because how on earth are you suppose to pass if you have damage?

And that, damage, is exactly what would make rally in GT5 a real challenge. You can see how slowly the cars in the video a couple pages back were going. In GT4 rallying you would go through a similar turn at 20-30 mph and probably bang into a wall somewhere along it, then keep on going. The realism of damage would make it more fun and rewarding, as long as they didn't make the times to beat too hard.

Maybe they should include rally in its own area where it doesn't contribute to 100% completion. Imagine doing slides like that on a controller! :scared: But they should definitely make it more than a seemingly last-minute addition, with realistic physics like the rest of the game will have.

I don't want rally tracks and events or missons in GT5. This is just personal and it's not fair to those who like rally in GT5. If it's in, I can ignore it.

So that means that I'm stuck with the awfull rally events and missions. :ouch:

It's just your opinion. I loved fast cars on Nordschleife and Le Mans very much, but for me, section "Special Conditions" was the first I've done in GT4 and it was lot of fun.

So look at it from another position, they can polish the rally part of the game to perfect experience for us.

I'm looking forward to the rallying with the DFP, the better physics (which I hope translate to the rallying as well as they have to the road driving) and the in car view.
