How long before this becomes the anecdotal automotive statements thread? Couldn't hurt to post a link/photo proving a "fact", after all.

Nope the heads on the NASCAR Ford V8 are close to Cleveland but the block is a Windsor based peice.

NASCAR V8

Cleveland V8

Notice the difference in the timing cover/waterpump mounting area.

The LS1 does look alot like a Windsor V8 as well.

I mean for the most part. The Windsor was used in NASCAR up until 2009 when the FR-9 took over. The closest example to my statement is the Toyota pushrod they use.

Cleveland heads will bolt up to an LS1.

Wild I had no idea!

Volvo 2.3 4cyl heads will bolt up to Ford 2.3 I4s. Its a common swap for the SVO/Turbocoupe people.

Really? That's actually something I didn't know. That said I probably would have bought an aftermarket head anyways with a nice cam. Can be made a pretty hot motor.

Anyways 4V Cleveland heads were nuts...you could just about fit a gold ball in it's ports.

The size of wing on the Dodge Charger Daytona and the Plymouth Superbird, had nothing to do with aerodynamic/downforce they were made at that height so that the trunklid could fully open.

I thought it was a combination? Street use yes, but on the track surely it would have some effect at 200+mph

The swap is usally done with the Volvo B204/B234 head because its a DOHC head.

You should see the 302 Tunnel port heads Ford was going to use in TRANS-AM Racing before the BOSS 302

I know about the tunnel port 302. The reality is it did poorly though and that is why the race spec Boss 302 T/A exists. All 470 horsepower of creamy goodness. The race spec T/A had a "cross boss" intake which featured two 4 barrel Holley "Dominator" carbs that fed the motor a whopping 2,100 cfm and had a re-located distributor to accommodate the intake. It had roughly 95 horsepower per liter, 8,000rpm redline and supposedly could do the 1/4 mile in 12.9 with a 2.78 but was setup for circuit racing. Bet a set of 4.10s in the back of that thing would slam that car deep into the 11s or high 10s in the 1/4.

I'm not 100% sure all cars are covered under the 25 year time span though, I'm sure there are a ton of exceptions. If you are seriously considering importing a car, and assuming you have enough money, you probably would need to check customs officials.

It's at the Federal level, and I'm pretty sure it applies to all cars.

Next year is good for 89' Skylines due to them being officially 25 years old. :)

Yup, I'm looking forward to next year. Oh yeah, I guess I could get a Sierra Cosworth imported now since some of them are at least 25 years old now. That's cool, now I just need the money.

It's not just the model year. It must be down to the production month. For example, in November 2014, October 1989 and before production cars will be eligible for import. November 1989 cars and later will still be ineligible even if it was still a 1989 model as those cars are not 25 years old yet.

Good to know One day I WILL import a Modern Aussie Falcon.

Random fact Mclaren Foxbody Mustangs used the MB R129 SL convertible top. (both cars LOOK ALOT ALIKE IMHO)

So the earliest someone would be able to legally import an R32 would be May 2014 due to the R32 debuting in May 1989?

Particularly given that some have already been debunked...

The side mirrors on the Phase 2 Citroen CX were also used on the Lotus Esprit and the Jaguar XJ220.

Reminds me of another parts bin-raiding car, the Lotus Elise. Same mirror units as the Rover 100/Metro:

And of course, one of the Elise's contemporaries, the MGF, used Metro subframes at both the front and rear - it's mid-engined layout was essentially a Metro subframe and K-Series engines turned backwards.

The European Ford Capri was sold in the Us as a Mercury until the 80s where Ford just rebodied the Fox Mustang to make another Capri.

People can say what they want but I like both US and Europe Capris. The US is nice IMO especially with the 302.

Citroen launched a two rotor GS In 1973 called the Birotor ( also known as the GZ). It was a sales disaster selling only 847 cars. Citroen even tried buying back the cars so they wouldn't have to service and make spare parts for them.

I'm like both too. Although, I can't stand the one in the Early 90s.

Another fact; GM made 2 different cars and they were both called the Nova.

Are you referring to the Nova of the 80's which was Toyota Corolla with a bow-tie?

I was thinking the Vauxhall Nova and Classic Chevrolet Nova actually. Wait, there's another Toyota Corolla with chevy badge? I thought only the Corolla of the late 90s had that.

Yup, it was essentially the E80, meaning in some round about way it was like the tofu delivery drift car from that anime.

The 7.3 V12 found in the Pagani Zonda was also used in the Mercedes SL73 AMG, a limited run of the R129 model. It made over 500HP.

If I recall correctly, it was capable of 211 mph.

Everything I've found online said R32 production started in August 1989, so earliest cars can come September 2014.

At least the wait is almost over for the Americans, they can finally and legally drive the R32 in its many engine and drivetrain layouts.:)

The Nismo r32 is legal iirc. Problem is 1. You can only drive a certain amount of miles a year and 2. There's only 500 of them.

I did hear the Nismo Skylines were legal but like you said, only 500 made and are limited on the yearly mileage so I didn't really count it.
