The reason I chose 9mm AR for home defense rifle is because it would have less chance of over penetration and going through walls and hitting others inside or outside my home.
It's one of the reasons why I've designated my .45 ACP HK USP for home defense, but I've had my Glock 19 on the job for last 2, 3 weeks or so. Gen 4 Glock 19 has become my favorite gun(it's my newest).

What I have learned from that graph is that as long as its one of the service pistol rounds it really does not matter a whole lot which one you pick, in terms of stopping power. Pistol people argue all day about bullet energy, bullet weights, expansion etc. but once you are dealing with the whole spectrum of firearms, rifles, shotguns, from the .22 up to the 12 gauge and .50BMG, you quickly realize that .40, .45acp and 9mm are extremely similar in energy and performance. Their big differences are in fact absolutely tiny.

Personally, if I wanted to have a pistol for defense I'd be happy with a 9mm, , 45, 40S&W, 9mm Makarov or .380. I'd probably take the 9mm simply because it costs less and the the capacity is highest.

IMO people completely and utterly overthink stopping power when choosing handgun calibers.

Yeah, maybe it's like debating V6 or V8 when we are just moving a bag groceries from point a to point b. Just consider things like cost, recoil, etc., and pick the one that makes most sense to you.

Speaking of picking, has anyone had any experience with the Ruger LC9 or any of its competitors?

The wife has a Ruger LC9s in purple. The "s" stands for striker fired as opposed to hammer fires. The LC9 is made in both flavors. There is even a LC9s Pro which eliminates the thumb safety.

I don't like the spongie long-ish travel on the trigger.

Edit: we both prefer our Glock 43 for carry. She keeps the Ruger because it's pretty. It rarely get used.

How about some Buck'n Ball? 4x .30 pellets atop a .725 roundball. :D

I'm very happy with the load, the wad column is the perfect height for the right amount of roll crimp. The total weight of the payload is 1 3/4 ounces.

And some roundball only minishells. Much shorter than any standard 12 gauge but very powerful load.

Building a new AR15 chambered in 22lr

Going to mill out a raw 80% lower receiver.

Nickel Teflon enhanced trigger group(they are super smooth, absolutely zero grit)
Magpul Moe grip and butt stock.
http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-defender-moe-lower-build-kit-no-ambi-safety.html

Gorilla Machining Upper receiver ($35 for a blemished one , I like cheap lol)
http://www.gorillamachining.com/GOR...-Stripped-Upper-Receiver-Blemished_p_487.html

Taccom Heavy barrel .22lr 1:16 twist (got it from a guy on a gun forum I belong to $65 ! They are $180 new)

CMMG bolt group (and a Taccom reliability kit)(came from same dude as Taccom barrel $100 , he even tossed in 2 black dog 25 round mags and a 10 round CMMG mag!)https://www.righttobear.com/CMMG-Dedicated-22-LR-Stainless-Steel-Bolt-Group-p/22ba487.htm

Off brand free float 12" keymod handguard.

Going with flip up back back up iron sight at first. I may put a red dot sight on it later.

It's bit of a frankenstein build, but those Taccom barrels are good for 1 MOA accuracy so I snagged it up.

After I get it built it will test then disassemble to ready for some dura coat.

I haven't decided what color(s) yet. I'll take suggestions.

Alot of this should be delivered tomorrow, I'll.post pictures of course!

Edit: added links.

Ok I was looking at colors.....

How about Ultra Flat Tatical Dark Blue for the upper, lower receiver and the handguard.

Then for the barrel, pistol grip, buffer tube and butt stock(and all the hardware such as mag release, safety selector, trigger)

Ultra flat Tatical Black , or possibly the Utltra Flat Tatical Light Grey for a bit of contrast.

What you all think?

Time for more gun porn. Lower build kit came in today.

Barrel and bolt group, mags also showed up.The guy also threw in a CMMG .22lr charging handle, I didn't know he was doing that!
The difference between a regular AR15 charge handle and one for .22lr is that the .22lr is mostly solid. .22lr casings get jammed up in normal charge handles. A nice surprise that saves me another $25.

Here it is mostly assembled.

Kinda looks good being all black exept for the lower in raw. Maybe I'll just keep it that way. Spray the rest in ultra flat black, so all blacks are the same.

I'm thinking of getting this:

It's basically a DI gun from LWRC which meets all of Zenith's awesome guide's parameters. The only thing different is that the BCG's gas key is actually milled solid into the carrier. Normally, looking at that MSRP on their website would make me go wtf. But, actually, I may be able to get it for ridiculously cheap. It would be more expensive to put a rifle together from scratch. Another bonus is that the BCG and barrel are Nicorr coated instead of chromed. Not sure about the weird twisted flutes, but whatever. I just want to have an AR15 before the lunatic gun-grabbers make any inroads in Florida. I think the fact that this is has "molon labe" on the side is a good omen.

Complicating my life, Gallery of Guns also has Grand Power pistols on sale. I can basically pick up a $950 MSRP X-Calibur race gun for $650. They normally sell for like 800ish. I may just have to get these and wait for the Sig P365s to go on sale. I need to get paid more.

X-Calibur race gun
Where do you find these cool guns!? Never seen or heard of them before.

What I want, still, would be the AR though. I'm afraid of gun control related worries, too. I don't want to buy a AR, then get stuck with some ten round mags. :nervous: If I was buying one today, it would be the Colt(just under $1,000) or M&P(Sport II? $499+). Then again, I should just spend the money towards U.S. Citizenship, so I could carry. :P

Hold off on getting the P365, they are plagued with issues. Sig even stopped shipping them.

Nice darn AR you have pictured there! If you are getting a good price, yeah do it! The flutes in the barrel help.make the barrel more ridged , the barrel will.move around less during firing.

Get an AR15 , and buy cases and cases of ammo while they are decent prices. Lots of mags also, pile them up. Pmags can be had for $9 each right now, during the last AWB they got up to $50-60 for a 30 rounder.

Definitely get citizenship, get that carry license!

Wow, no kidding? That's a bummer.

I was just reading about it in NRA article (American Rifle site I think). They said the first one had, or got dead front sight. Releasing the slide wouldn't even put one in the chamber on a fresh mag.

When contacted, Sig told the writer that the gun he received was preproduction model shipped in error..... Replacement did perform flawlessly, but I'm smelling B.S. on the excuse. :P

What I'm afraid of is like what happened in California. Not only illegal to buy, but also to own. If Oregon ban ownership, I'd be screwed (already have Bushmaster .308), and I'd certainly refuse to retard the rifle with bullet-button, or 10-round mag nonsense. :dunce:

I'm a Constitution law abiding citizen. I can NOT comply with Cali gun laws....

Good thing I don't live in Cali, I'd be classified as a felon there.

I had a quick glance at Oregon gun laws. I don't think they will go the way of Commiefornia.

The right to keep and bear arms is in thier state Constitution.

They allow NFA items.

They are SHALL issue on concealed carry. There is no "assualt" rifle regulations.

They have State preemption over local municipals making law and regulations on firearms.

However they do require private sales go through an FFL for a NICS.

I'd say buy some AR15s while they are cheap.

It’s not a felony or even a misdemeanor in CA to own an AR. Also while 30 rounders just became illegal it’s not a felony or a misdemeanor either rather an infraction so basically low level traffic offense territory. They scared everyone into turning in their mags. Per the law, it’s not punishable by anthing more than a citation.

No, but it is a felony to not comply with registration(think consfication list later). This is something I could not comply with in good faith, therefore my statement stands, I'd be a felon in Cali.

The magazine things is also nuts, I'm glad that's blocked by courts for the moment.

It's getting crazy in Cali. They chip away more nearly every year. Soon they will get down to banning semi-auto actioned firearms... It will be the only feature left after they ban all the "scary looking" parts first.

Which is exactly what the hard left wants, a disarmed population. Then they can do as they please with out threat of actual real revolt.

It’s not a felony in CA to possess an unregistered firearm. I agree CA gunlaws are crazy but the lawmakers aren’t smart enough to effectively ban anything and there are legal ways to curtail these laws.

SB 880. Made it a Felony to not comply with registration by the deadline date.

That’s resistering something as an assault weapon IF it’s not outfitted with something to make it a fixed magazine. There are products that make it no longer fit the definition or requirement. Is it right? No. Are there loopholes? Yes.

Bullet button was an option, now those are assualt weapons now. It won't end in California until the people are disarmed.

Anyway, enough about politics. This is a gun thread. I apologise for getting off track.

Back to gun porn...

Here is a Glenfield (Marlin built) .22lr Bolt action that I refinished the stock and mounted a Nikon 3-9x40 on. Nice plinker, going to give it to my son when he's a bit older.
