I have not been to the range in a long time. Ammo availability has not been good. It is starting to come back, but the prices are inflated.

I agree, ammo availability is slowly improving but prices are still inflated. I wish I could go shooting as often as I did 2 years ago, but I am discouraged from doing so with current ammo prices.

Last week I watched a friend of mine compete in the Tactical Games. The Tactical Games is mix of Crossfit and 2-gun competition. It is a 2 day competition with 6 challenging stages and well over 300 competitors (most are law enforcement) from around the US. After watching my buddy compete as well as seeing an amputee with carbon fiber legs competing. I thought to myself I have no excuse to not compete next year or whenever they return to Arizona. But I need to get in shape for this match. Fortunately I already have a lot of the equipment required for the match and Santa just recently ordered me an AR500 Testudo Gen 2 plate carrier. Here some videos of the stages from the competition.

Does anyone here speak some Russian? Found a video where some Russians are apparently developing a revolving rifle in 7.62x39 and some huge proprietary .50 caliber round. Also, it appears like the cylinder and frame reciprocate, but not to turn the cylinder or cock the hammer.

I checked out the cartridge, its really interesting. Its the 12.7x55 mm (.50 cal), apparently that cartridge serves a similar role to the .458 Bushmaster, .50 Beowulf etc. Its a big bore low velocity cartridge for semi auto rifles to stop cars etc. All loads are around 1000 fp/s, subsonic, with all kinds of projectiles. There is even a load, now hold onto your panties, with a 1100 grain projectile at 1000 fp/s!

Its based on the .338LM cartridge necked up to 50, making it straight-walled.

Imagine the payload capabilities of a 1100 grain projectile, it surpasses that of a .50 BMG by nearly 30%. Its a mini-grenade.

1,100 grain 😲, what is the purpose of a projectile that big 😄.

I just got back from Oregon. Didn't see @a6m5 though :). Anyways, I was able to score some ammunition for my AR finally. I didn't want to deal with CA. Nobody even ID'd me in Oregon or anything lol. I tried to find an actual gun shop around where I was staying but all it was leading me to were neighborhoods where someone obviously has an FFL and sells guns from their homes. Didn't just want to randomly knock on someone's door and ask if they had any ammo for sale. So I eventually ended up at Big 5 where .223 was approximately $1 per round and 5.56 was approximately $1.25 a round. Ouch. But I had already dedicated $200 to ammunition while I was there so ended up with just 200 rounds of .223. Better than nothing I guess.

I got my first gun from Big 5(POS Remington .22 rifle). Yeah, Big 5 is overpriced on ammo & I haven't been in there in years. In Oregon, place to buy ammo are Bimart($5 lifetime membership), Fisherman's Marine & Outdoor, and I've never bought from them, but also Cabela's, Coastal Farm Supply & Sportsman's Warehouse?

I do seem to get ID'd on handgun ammunition. Found some black box "Ammo" brand JHP 9mm at Bimart today(20rd, $17.77 a box). Bimart seems to have .223/5.56 on hand like maybe 40, 50% of the time. I haven't bought them in awhile, but I want to say the typical price for box of 20 are $12~$14?

Anytime plinking anymore, you have to conserve conserve conserve. It sucks. All hard to find, too expensive, or both.

I sold my Bushmaster 308, and by pure coincidence, picked up this rifle on the same day:

FN 15 SRP G2. I saw it on Botach for $899. Been sort of interested in upgrading my PSA lower, also plastic MBUS backup sights with steel, and this rifle did both of those things, so I decided to order it. After shipping & FFL, it ended up costing around $975 + first impression was okay at best. Trigger was unsmooth & I didn't shoot it as accurately as I did my first AR M&P Sport 2 either, which cost only $509 after background check. Pic is after I swapped the grip & stock to nicer set.

I'm going to try lubing the trigger little bit, but this was the first time I shot a stock rifle & immediately thought about trigger upgrade. Never felt the need before.

Installed the same Burris micro red dot/prism scope combo after sighting in the flip up sights. I've had this Burris set on Bushmaster 308, M&P Sport 2, and now this one.

That is almost the same Midwest Industries rail I have on an upper. While I assumed it was a mil-spec trigger, I looked up the FN 15 SRP G2 and it says mil-spec style trigger. If you do end up decided to replace the trigger, then the LaRue MBT-2S is a good, affordable option.

I'm using an Anderson Arms lower, those are on the cheaper end of the spectrum but the quality is good as far as I can tell. Really like their triggers, they are single stage and even though they are not super light, are crisp and clean with a small reset that allows fast and precise follow up shots. Trigger group looks nice and clean too and the trigger has no play side-to-side. Its not a match trigger but pressing it just feels super crisp, like breaking a glass rod, and I'm shooting 1.5'' groups at 100yds with them with a simple red dot and no magnification.
I don't want to sound like a commercial here but I can recommend them.

Just sold 2 guns and I want a new one, so I need some inspiration. Maybe you are getting exactly what I'm looking for and don't know yet. :D
One is supposed to be here tomorrow. Depending on what time it arrives, I may or may not be able to pick it up tomorrow. It may have to wait until Wednesday. I have no idea on the other.

Started to go to the shooting range. Man, I won't be able to look at some movie or videogame scenes without laughing now. xD
Guns are LOWD! xD

In the last couple of months I tried a bunch of stuff. I really like the AR-platform guns. Good ergonomics. Wasn't impressed with the AK... it just feels so thin, and the stock is too short... and it bit me two times when I was detaching the mag and pulling the charging handle)
.44 magnum doesn't kick as much as I expected, but the .45 ACP kicked more than I expected! I understand why a 9mm is better for police or military- more controllable recoil.
I also better understand why you want a pistol caliber carbine or a SMG or a conversion kit for a pistol. It's much easier to aim with a long gun than with a handgun and the pistol caliber doesn't kick as much as a rifle caliber, also noticeably quieter. The 12 Gauge was just OUCH, my cheek! X)

The thing that makes me laugh at movies, or more correctly, just roll my eyes, is the ignorant portrayal of semi-auto pistols going clikclikclik when they're empty. I absolutely HATE that! You almost never see the actual locking open of the slide, just clikclik and maybe the guy says, "I'm out!" To me, that misrepresentation of how guns work simply encourages the ignorance of the general public; those people who insist on calling a rifle an "assault weapon," or even worse, a "military rifle." of course, the movies and TV use those terms, too, which I hate just as much as clikclikclik...

Or the sound of bolt being charged every time a gun being aimed at someone. X)
Or the pew-pew sound of a suppressed weapon and no one around hears it)

I received notice that the item had been delivered yesterday, but the FFL has not called me just yet. I will probably give them a call later this morning and potentially swing by at lunch.

EDIT: Swung by at lunch and waited for around 40 minutes to get a proceed. Picture(s) later.

Sorry for the lack of difference between the pictures, I am not a photographer. I have had the upper for a while and may have even posted a picture of it. It is a WWSD 2021 lower from Brownells. I should have grabbed a picture earlier, but it weighs 6 pounds.

Nice setup, clean and no-nonsense - I like it. 14.5'' pinned flashhider pencil barrel? Are you going to get a magnifier?
It is a 14.5" with pinned flash hider, but it is not a pencil barrel. It is Ballistic Advantage's Hanson profile, which are lighter, but not pencil light. I have thought about picking up a magnifier. I have not really done enough looking into magnifiers to know which one would be a good option.

I ran my 20'' ar with a magnifier for a while until I switched to an LPVO, I remember it was the Holosun 4x. I don't feel qualified to recommend it since I did not do any comparisons, but it worked really well for me, great glass and the best thing - quick detachable lever. Don't need a 4x magnifier hanging off of the rifle all the time. Only issue I had was there was no space left on the rail for a backup iron sights. Might be possible with your setup, my Holosun reddot took up more railspace than yours.

A Vortex Micro 3x Magnifier is interesting.

Looks good - my magnifier was also picky with eye relief, I had to practice consistent head positioning - something to watch out for when using it on a fixed stock lower. Thats where LPVOs are better.

At the moment, buying guns & ammo is interesting around here, we are under lockdown (once again) due to the pandemic which means only essential stores are allowed to stay open. However, you can order stuff online and pick your order up as long as you don't enter the store. At my local gunstore they put a table across the entrance blocking it where they hand over the orders to the customers. Its especially funny now that its winter and snowy, you see a line of pissed off customers freezing their butts off in snow storms and inspecting guns in the parking lot. Its so weird, but I'm happy I get my stuff and they can stay in business.

BTW, I just bought a 6 shooter online, can't wait to pick it up.

@Brett since you already have a Holosun red dot, have you checked out the Holosun HM3X magnifier?

@Michael88 it sucks that you guys are on lockdown, but it is nice to hear that you can still purchase the stuff you want.

Bah, I'm sad! Today I wanted to pick up my .44 magnum Taurus revolver I ordered a couple days ago as Christmas present for myself, when I had it on the counter and inspected it for cylinder gap etc. I was not happy with the quality. Worst thing was the cylinder stop, with a cocked hammer the cylinder had a lot of wiggle left and right, on each chamber.
I did not buy it.

Maybe I've become a gun snob, I was not happy with the quality of the last couple guns I had in my hands either, there was always something wrong with them. I know a lot of people who are happy with their Taurus revolvers, but as I said I'm not liking the tolerances of the guns, especially on powerful calibers.

Just learned that my dad and I inherited my grandfather's firearms. The only one we explicitly know the make and model of is a .45 ACP Ruger P90. There's a pump action shotgun and a .22 bolt action. As soon as I know more (and have the appropriate literature and safe storage, etc. set up) I can share some photos. All of them are 1980s or so, from my understanding.
