General info about races: Our goal is to provide a racing simulation experience for everyone. Real off-road grip, weak slipstream, tire wear on, and yes, heavy damage! ABS is optional.

The potential for damage encourages respect and sportsmanship among everyone, making penalties unnecessary – GT5's penalty system is easily gamed, often penalizes the victim and does nothing to further the "racing simulation".

The races are usually long enough to require at least one pit for tires and/or gas depending on the car. We also enjoy racing real life cars, and offer a wide range of racing experiences, from VW Buses to F1's, some tuned, some untuned, you name it. Feel free to check out the Facebook ( http://tinyurl.com/GT5-LPP ) page to post race suggestions and say hello!

Qualifying & Rolling Starts:
  • Qualifying begins promptly at 9:00 PM Eastern (refer to the countdown timer above if you're not on the east coast) and will last 15 to 30 minutes.
  • When you have a time you like, pull over to a secluded spot or sit in the pits, while we record your time. If you are unable to complete a qualifying lap in the time allotted, or if you leave or exit the track before we record your lap time, you will start at the back of the pack.
  • If lap times are not registering properly on my screen, I will tell everyone to keep track of their lap times.
  • At the start of the race, drivers will manually line up in formation for a ROLLING START. When the race timer counts down, and the race START message appears, DO NOT MOVE. Stay in the starting grid until the starting line up is called out.
  • We will manually line up in qualifying order. Once everyone is in the correct order, the driver in the pole position will set a pace not exceeding 60 MPH / 96 KPH, and begin the race by breaking that pace. Please do not overtake other drivers until the pole/pace car breaks pace and begins accelerating to race speed. Then, THE RACE IS ON.
Full Course Caution Until Clean Start:
  • This policy applies until we complete one continuous clean lap or two continuous minutes of clean racing on longer courses, without multi-car incidents. Cautions will only be available at the beginning of the race. We will repeat it as many times as necessary to get an incident free start.
  • If there are any multi-car incidents, where any driver is knocked well off the track by another driver, we will call a FULL COURSE CAUTION. The policy does not apply to individual drivers losing control, even if an offending driver has minor contact with other drivers who continue racing.
  • Once a caution is issued, please do not overtake any drivers, even if you are heading to the pits.
  • All drivers (not in the pits) will form-up for another Manual Rolling Start behind the current race leader, who will maintain pace speed until everyone is in formation again, and restart according the approach used at the beginning of the race.
Prizes:
  • First place (Lvl 21 car ticket)
  • Second place ( Lvl 11 car ticket)
  • Car paints for at least the top half of the participants including Chrome paints
Other notes: For the most part, the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines apply with some changes.
  1. Bump drafting is allowed where it makes sense.
  2. Keep moving on the track, regardless of incident, unless cars behind you are approaching. Time, depending on severity of incident, will be added to your final race time once complaints are filed and replays checked.
  3. Drivers that are to be lapped are under no obligations to move out of the way, as long as they are not intentionally blocking. Most tracks have many sections to overtake. If you're faster, you'll find a way to pass.
  4. There will be no race restarts for people that disconnect, unless something extreme happens like half the room disconnects at the same time. Common sense will dictate what's appropriate. People that disconnect will still earn points (where applicable) depending on when they disconnected.
  5. Track boundaries are generally the same as those enforced by the GT5 penalty system and as defined by section 16: Offline Racing in the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules linked above. See the illustration below. Occasional unintended incursions will be tolerated, particularly if you visibly attempt to correct a bad line by braking, etc. or you have lost control of your vehicle. Patterns of abuse will not be tolerated, and complaints will be investigated as noted in #2 above.

The Tuning Prohibited restriction in GT5 rooms prevents changes to equipment and settings for chasis, engine, drivetrain, transmission and suspension. The only exceptions are tires, brakes and engine limiter -- in other words, factory settings, minus any engine break-ins.

Choice of car may be a deciding factor. If anyone believes that any one car has an unreasonable advantage over the others, please comment, and I will consider excluding it.

I'd like to try this out . PSN ID "livetiludye". Thanks. Stock H.P. (with oil change)WT. RH tires ON a Takata Dome NSX, right?

I'd like to join too.

Gtp. Fakegangstadie
Psn. Cam_from_nj

Idk about the car yet. I'd like to run some test

According to the regulations, you can use Racing Soft tires, but everything else you listed seems correct.

Hi, is there any races coming up that would allow non real racing sim regulars or past participant?

I would like to join this one but I am new here and saw it's only open to past and regular participants...

Thanks!

You're more than welcome to join in. The part about regulars just means there might be more than 16 people that want to drive, but at this point, that's not a problem. Just be on time :)

Count me in on this one also. Not sure what car im using yet and when will a practice room be open? Thanks

No scheduled practice room, but you're free to join any of the lounges or set up something independently.

Just make sure you have the room settings as specified in the regulations.

Thanks to alefin, for answering the comments. I updated the participant policy to help clarify.

And to explain even further, let me add that I prefer this policy on races that I set up because there are always no shows, and I really hate to turn anyone away when we actually might have room.

Of course, if you show up late, you might be out of luck. If the room filling becomes a real problem, I can see us spinning off a 2nd room, which could start 15 - 30 minutes later to accommodate later arrivals.

Until then, if you want "a reserved seat", you should be sure to sign-up for alefin's races. He and I alternate setting up races every other Sunday! Plus he currently has a Friday 10 race series that is 2 races in.

BTW, I do not consider myself immune from this policy, and can easily see getting shut out of my own race -- it would not be the first time I missed one of my own races. Any of our regulars are capable of hosting in alefin's room, and/or spinning off an alternate room (you could use a public room, or my lounge, if everyone is on my friend list).

Also, PLEASE NOTE that I updated the qualifying and race start information to reflect the policy we began using on Real Racing Sim races last week

One more note...

Please feel free to share any thoughts on your car choices. I would not ask anyone to give away an ace in the hole, and you are not required to declare what car you will be using.

Still, you might be neighborly enough to warn about any real dogs to stay away from.

Winning just isn't the same when you know you opponent had no chance.

Thanks for clarifying! :) Domlnlc (Domlnlc)

Not sure how competitive I will be but I am a clean driver... What kind of lap times are you guys running?

Around 1:04, but I'm usually in the bottom half of the grid.

I'd put the all the Lexus cars in the "challenge yourself" category. Those cars aren't good for top speed.

Hi my fellow petrol heads

Id like to take part in this race.. are there still spaces available?

bbvdd

We'll add you, but as noted in the post and further explained in comments, there is no hard reservation -- first come, first served. So please be on time. It does not look like we will be over capacity at this point.

NOTE: I could not add you either as bbvoodoodaddy or as bbvdd -- we must have your PSN id to add you.

Also, Dominic - your friend list is full and I could not add you - not sure if alefin was able to. Time to start purging dead wood on your friends list.

Not sure about bbvdd, haven't tried to add him yet, but Dominic is DomLnLc in case you didn't try that.

Just to clarify, you are running around 1:04's average with tire wear on, correct? Or would that be best lap?

Would it be pushing my luck to ask how many laps you are able to do before having to pit?

Again, just curious on how competitive I can expect to be. I had stoped playing GT5 for a while but am now getting back into it.

Thanks!

Haven't tried to see how long tires are going, but yes 1:04 on average, I can sometimes get 1:02 to 1:03 but usually 1:04 with tire wear on.

I'll check later on to see how many laps I can get.

Ok. I need more practice than lol. I got a 1:03 at one point but avg high 1:04's...

Thank you alefin!

Making a guess, as it depends on what the qualifying times are, but maybe 64 to 66 laps

ALL GT500 cars are not created equal. To participants who have posted questions about what is a competitive lap time, my lap speeds varyied as much 2.25 seconds using different models. I won't say which is the fastest I've found but It is a fact some are definitely faster than others in speed as well as handling. Also noteworthy, is that as fuel burns off and the tendency to run light fuel loads at the last 25% of the race , be aware the that the weight distribution changes significantly & Does affect braking/handling. This I can say from experience at Sarthe in a light weight vintage racer. Maybe a brake set-up that is only marginal with full fuel loads at the start of the race will in fact be the the better option for the latter part of the race., OR top off every tire change & stay with your optimum full tank set up. Don't know which is better but I have to do better to stay mid pack. oh , oh , "straDGETY"
