Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2025

I can't even buy this because of some legal issue in Canada, it has nothing to do with the cars or parts. Just the name apparently.
Yep. Crave Entertainment published the TXR titles in Canada, and was bought out by Throwback Entertainment after going bankrupt. Throwback therefore owns the right to publish games under the TXR name in Canada.

So the good news is that it appears to be with the Canadian government department that handles trademarks:

Very interested to know how this runs on the steam deck as i dont have a PC.

Does it hit it a solid 60 fps?

I haven’t changed any of the defaults and it looks great already.

Is it easy to set up a DS4 controller for this? Just bought it but won't be able to play until next week
@AlexWilmot Out of the box it's fine, from my limited experience so far it's just a question of fine-tuning the handling settings and/or adjusting your driving style slightly.

For myself I left the Steering Angle Correction to On, at least for now (it was exacerbating the fishtailing I mentioned earlier). After another hour this evening I've settled on Handling Response + Return time to 0.4 + 0.6 respectively (hopefully those aren't the default values!), at least for the time being as I've found that helps get through the corners just a bit more smoothly. Braking/Acceleration e.t.c are fine as they are.

I really hope when the final version comes out, we get to carry our progress from the early access version over to the full game. Would be a bad shame if we had to start from the beginning.

The music in this game is so cheesy and so awesome. :)

On Steam, “early access” is just a label. Going out of early access just removes the label. It’s just a moment the developer decides “current version is good enough”.

Save wipes typically only happen when major gameplay/progression changes happen. Not common outside of MP/MMO.

My only concern is cloud saves. They are not implemented right now, and I have one save on my PC and one on my Ally. That might become tricky should they decide to implement cloud saves.

Put 9 hours into it tonight, starting with the AE86 & then moving onto the Silvia K. The steering response out of the box needs a couple tweaks for the controller, but after that, it feels really good to play on. I can surprisingly run it at Ultra, the FPS just dips quite noticeably down. However, if I run it at High & turn a couple options to Ultra, it still runs nice & smooth on my 2070 Super.

The Opponents feel like a nice, mixed bag through my first couple stages/chapters. The AE86 with some mods has decent top end, so you can reel opponents in as long as you're with them, but I ran into a few opponents that I took off the go & then their top ends came back around. Higher level opponents by around 2 levels will require old TXR tricks like catching them in the right areas, but even some like a Lancer Evo wanderer at Lvl 14 doesn't have any problem tackling the C1 Loop. So far, power is pretty much key, so I moved to the Silvia K for the extra oomph over the AE86; it does require you to mess with 4th & 5th gearing, otherwise, it will runs out of steam quickly around 115mph stock. Once I had it fully modded as much as I could, it tackled almost every opponent easily.

It took me a while to finally find & beat the required 4 to access the next batch of Perks, so once I did, I had more than enough BP to get a bunch of the next set of mods & the Silvia became more than dominant over most opponents. However, right now, the Evo wanderer & Rolling Gal #1 have quickly humbled me. But, I'm surprised how generous the BP system is. Yes, it will take a while to fully max it, but it doesn't have any feel of being a grind since the BP are coming naturally alongside your rewards & their requirements so far, aren't growing as you progress. The perks only cost 1-3 at most for me at this point & you can earn a lot more than that in a couple nights.

I will say I really like how accessible & easier this one feels over Zero & 3 whilst still requiring good old TXR-fashion time to beat. Wanderer clues are straight forward whilst still needing a range of requirements from aforementioned time to get the right cars/requirements & being in the right spot & day. And the required opponents needed to access the later Perks/Cars is a solid way of keeping the game balanced imo, so you don't just splurge BP to unlock them fast & then worry about money which also comes rather easily, esp. if you beat bosses/wanderers.

And for a $30 game that's early access, I think it's in a state that can shame full releases. I haven't run into any bugs or crashes, or seen anything I hope Genki fixes. The worst is the AI traffic sometimes gets in its own way hilariously enough, but it's been due to pure random circumstance & it knows how to settle itself out. Hard to believe it's been 20 years since the old games for me, but this game nails the old formula with all the right stuff implemented of today's games.

It looks to me as if ownership was changed to Genki 4 days ago, at least you can see that in the documents there. But this is legal mumbo jumbo so I might misunderstand something...
So hopefully you'll get it soon!

The game seems pretty awesome. Some observations:

The pitch of the engine sound changes pretty dramatically between the different camera views, at least on my Suzuki Swift.

I'm surprised the controls are not more polished out of the box. I had to mess with the steering sensitivity and deadzones quite a bit to get it to even be playable.

The lack of an exit game button seems like an oversight - unless I'm just missing it.

I really like the parking areas and how they add a little more immersion over the previous games which didn't really have any interactions with the other characters.

Chase camera still bothers me.

Collecting cars seems like a slow process and disincentivized...the unlock mechanism, the cost, etc. Not against it, but this is really not a game that throws cars at you and/or expects you to collect 'em all.

Perhaps this is an early access thing, but the tuning seems much more limited compared to previous games.

The one thing I don't like is how many cars are locked behind basically an end-game condition (Early Access at least). Nearly the entire Subaru tree, for instance, is unavailable until you beat Midnight Cinderella, which I understand is one of the last bosses.

No parking area for the C1 loops seems unfortunate. I was surprised how fast you get through the C1 loop and open up the rest of the map. I would have thought a few more teams & wanderers.

Overall I'm very impressed for this being an Early Access game. However, I don't feel like it's a complete game yet - more like a fleshed out demo. My hope is that the full release will feel like a complete game and most of my gripes above will be resolved.

So because I've fallen in love with this game all over again, I've dug out my PS2 and Dreamcast to play the older games....I never expected it to be an absolute pain to setup on a modern TV though. Thankfully, reddit pointed me in the right direction on what cables to get and I should be good to go when they're delivered Tuesday.

Yeah, I thought after that first batch of teams/bosses they'd open up another route or 2, I wasn't expecting the entire map to be unlocked right then and there...

My favorite Controller settings:

All deadzones to 1 (or 0 if you can get away with it)
Handling Response Time (this is basically steering sensitivity): For precision, set this fairly high, like 0.7 or 0.8
Handiling Return Time (how fast you steering wheel snaps back when you let go): For controller it feels weird if your stick snaps back almost instantly but ingame it takes a while, so set this to something very low, like 0.1.

Your Mileage May Vary, as always.

During my hunt for the wanderers (I only have the last one left "Highway Gambler") i noticed some errors or bugs within their clue:

Comedic Disruptor: The clue says he accepts challenges from people who have cars without neon lights. I was with my Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) V-Spec II '00 that was without neon and when i went to challenge him giving me the error that i didn't have the right requirements. So i went out of curiosity to mount only the neon kit for the front and i tried to challenge him and he accepted the challenge and i beat him. I must also say that my brother who was with the Nissan Silvia (S14) K's Aero SE '97 without neon and this wanderer accepted the challenge.

Unbalanced Ishii: In the clue it says that he only accepts challenges from those who do not mount aerodynamic parts. Initially i thought of racing with the car that is aesthetically stock and it kept giving me the error that i did not have the right requirements. However, when i took my Nissan Silvia (S14) K's Aero SE '97 that was fully tuned including aesthetic parts, he accepted my challenge and I beat him. Perhaps the requirement is bugged or badly written and only accepts opponents who drive a Nissan Silvia?

All fair & valid points.

Unfortunately, I hit a wall at Level 12 trying to figure out what I need to do beat the last remaining Bosses like Melancholy Angel who just makes me look like a snail. And to make matters worse, the save encountered a corruption, so... I'm back to zero which means I enjoyed my 13 hours in, but I'll take a small break before returning.

Ishii is the wrong way around, he only races against full aero kits. The PA dialogue that tells you has it right, but then its wrong on the wanderer requirement page.

From what I've read on the Steam forums, the consensus there is that this boss is currently 'a bit' OP.
Yeah, I've read multiple posts advising challenge her 3-4 times so her tires wear down & she has a hard time launching at the start, then to NOS/block/run her into traffic at any cost.

Stuck at Melancholy Angel as well as a few of the other bosses like Shuwa Shuwa Strong. (Not counting some of the Wanderers that I also couldn't keep up with) Can't say I'm a fan of the tactics needed to supposedly beat them, but it's at least nice to hear that they also get tire wear.

13 hours in and really enjoying the game, but it certainly feels like I'm hitting a wall at this part of the early access game. The unlocking/upgrade progression could certainly be better as it's disappointing how long we have to work for anything powerful enough to keep up with such bosses or even "normal" rivals in R34s, Supras, etc. Went from Suzuki Swift as my starter, to the BRZ, and now to the RX-8 which helped against most of the later teams.

I'll admit I'm a bit spoiled by ITC where I started with the Aristo, saved up, and then went right to the R34. Definitely feel like I've taken more losses in TXR2025.

Melancholic Angel have 450bhp when the max our cars can reach at that point is a little over 300 is kinda crazy. Really hope Genki takes her down a notch in the final build. I understand the need to give NPC more power to compensate for their lack of AI but this is kinda overkill.

I think it's more that the player cars need more powerful tuning parts rather than the one they give now.

My poor Swift is at the wall with 150hp

I feel like the progression is kind of messed up in the early access, and I don't know how they'll manage the transition to the full game. It's likely I would just start over, particularly if there are other first-car options. Makes me wonder if I should just wait until the full game comes out to even play it....which would be a bit sad.

You quite literally need the RX8 maxed out as far as you can get it in Stage 2 in order to beat her. She is mentally quick. Oh and then start at a specific point since the AI is terrible at taking corners. I believe there is a YouTube video on it. Would have been nice to see it before I spent 3 hours scratching my head figuring out how to beat her with a BRZ...

I only have a few wanderers left to beat and I’m still loving it, although there’s room for improvement in many areas.

This is the case for all cars I’ve tried, and quite annoying indeed.
