"if you want to do some REAL racing, for cheap, than find a local autocross event."
How is driving around a course of big orange cones in an empty parkinglot "REAL racing?" I've autocrossed many a time, and there's no thrill in it whatsoever. That's why I no longer do it. What I like better, is actually REAL racing; buying a race helmit, getting around $75(for about five 15 minute sessions), and going to a REAL racetrack and racing against other people at the same time. A real track has those purdy lil' red & white rumble strips, not orange cone boundaries...
I guess if you were short on $$$ that autocrossing would suffice, but if you have enough money, going to a real track is much funner. It's even more expensive if you have to travel long distances to a track. The most I've driven was 2 days('bout 1100 miles) to go to a track just to race.
