Welcome to THE RUF CUP

Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit_44.jpg

The Ruf Cup will initially feature the RGT as the production based model. The only driving aid available will be ABS, and will use stock Sports Hard Tyres. Oil change is permitted (as is wheel & paint mods).

The racing will be held over 3 locations of 2 x 20 Minute races at each venue, Open qualification will be held for the first race, and then a reverse grid for the second. So 6 races in total, with 1 location (2 races) per week.

The first three rounds will be held at
1. Silverstone
2. Nurburgring
3. Spa Francorchamps

As you can see the these rounds make up the European tour of the Cup, should this enthusiast event gain popularity then the tour will continue around the globe, with the next stop being the Circuits of America, then moving across to the Far East, and concluding with and proposed 1hr endurance event in Australia.

The racing will be held on Sunday nights at around 9pm - 10pm BST, exact time will be tied down nearer the start. The plan is to kick of the first 2 rounds for the 15th June 22nd June (to make way for...link to follow)

Qualifying:
We will hold a 10 minute "open qualifying" session prior to the first race. We will not use the automated qualifier due to late arrivals not being able to join after the qualifier has begun. To begin qualifying I will reset the track to clear all times. Once the track has loaded the session will be under way and after 10 minutes I will start the race. After entering the track please do not exit to the lounge as you may lose any time you have set. Other cars will be on the track during qualifying so please be courteous and don't hold anyone up if they're on a flying lap. If you are satisfied with your time and wish to park it for the rest of the session, please drive into the pits and press the "start" button once (this will keep you in the pits until the race starts, as long as you don't hit start again).

Rules:
1. Drive as clean and respectful as possible. Try to avoid contact with fellow racers.
2. No hitting, ramming or corner cutting allowed.
3. Accidents do happen. If you knock someone off course you should slow and allow them to regain their position.
4. If there is any doubt as to whether you will be able to cleanly pull off a pass, wait till another corner.
5. NO DIVE-BOMBING (to the inside OR outside)
6. Bump drafting amongst the lead two cars is discouraged. Drivers should make the pass when possible and NOT work as a team to open a gap on the field. Make your pass and let the cards fall where they may. This ensures the drivers further back have a chance to catch up to the leaders if they should make a mistake. Drivers further back in the field are free to bump draft to catch up to the lead cars.
7. Drivers are expected to keep at least 2 wheels on the track/curbs at all times.
8. Blocking is not permitted. You get one move to choose your line and then you must hold it. You can not swerve back to your original line.
9. Rage quitting is frowned upon
10. Please keep chat box and mic chatter to a minimum during qualifying and racing.
11. And of course please follow the GTPlanet Online Rulesand The Good Racecraft Guide.

Penalties:
I am not here to penalize people for driving hard or driving passionately. I understand that while we all try our hardest to race cleanly, none of us are perfect, especially in the heat of the moment. That being said, I also expect everyone to learn from their mistakes and I'll do everything I can to help drivers improve their racecraft. If any driver shows repeated instances of gross negligence or overly aggressive driving I reserve the right to disqualify them from the event or the entire club. Any contact or incident that is deemed to have been intentional will likely result in immediate disqualification from any future events.

If this event is of interest to you please let me know, and I will put your name down. And remember to watch this thread, as there will no doubt be more details, questions and answer to come.

Thanks, Hobbsy

Trying to reduce the late night races (BST+2) but keeping my eye on this for sure and giving that RGT a spin 👍

edit: Had a quick spin. Always enjoyed cars that have some character. This one has loads! (mostly in the rear... )

Obviously I'm fully there, these things suit me and Sunday was always the easiest day for me to do my racing 👍.

...
this car was one of my favourites back in the PS2 days , but only in this paint/wheel combo :odd:

Haha, mine too! GT4, I think I had that same cyan blue colour with Enkei white wheels . And I used a naturally aspirated engine instead of forced induction; you know, when PD actually made the effort to make both have different characteristics instead of the useless system we have now :P.

Will be sticking with my usual yellow for this series though, might keep the Enkei wheels for nostalgia though ;).

I'm going to be opening a room in about an hour for some Ruf practice.

Anyone around please feel free to jump in.

Depending on how things go, room could be up for a couple of hours and I'm sure we can fit in some races on the Red Bull Ring :)

I'll try to shoot on for about 10pm.

I am already waiting....

I am not sure if I am turning into a masochist or is the update but I beginning to like the RGT better with CS...

Just had a 20 minute practice run to see how tyres would stack up - I got a big fright initially (had wear set to very fast). On the correct tyre wear rate though I managed all 20 minutes in my usual "serial tyre killer" style with the fronts at 10 and the rears both about half way down on 9, fastest lap was a 2:17.888 though I was on for a 17.6xx before making a mess of the last chicane; other than that an expected gradual drop in average times as the wear increased lap by lap.

Don't normally get along with Silverstone all that well but it was good fun in the RUF, I think this will make some good racing, looking forward to it 👍.

We had a go at the Nurb GB (second event) one night with Hobbs. The RUF seemed just natural there too 👍

I look forward to the start of this Cup

Maybe we could run both?

hobbs, referring to the tyre wear here?

Or did you mean about Nurburgring GP? Sorry, did you plan to have another car for the Nurburgring or are we using RGT for the first 3 races?

Sorry for the confusion, we could have a different tyre wear for each race!

Although we should probably just stick to consistency...

Not against it, but even with a cautious out lap and fast lap making tire saving a priority I was down to 9 on the rears - Cu3e was with me at the time and I think was in a similar position; I'm not sure very fast would be viable for anyone, maybe fast would be ok? Worth a try.
