Reasons GT5 was "pushed back" to 2010?

If it wasn't delayed, why have we seen sony media stating december 2009, (and also publications like argos xmas catalogue etc) and also in an interview last year KY laughed at a 2010 release date.

I'm not even sure when he said recently when we have implemented damage, I think we will be done - implying this is the only major thing left to implement - so it can't be delayed to implement major features.

Also PS3 will be cheaper to manufacture and make sony more money by end march 2009, increase sales won't hit there bottom line for this year.

Maybe slim sales were good enough that sony allowed PD extra time to make everything perfect, and if they didn't sell as many new slim's they would have pushed PD to release in decemeber come what may.

I think they're just taking ages because they're not used to working in new areas like online and damage. Also, every single GT game has been pushed back significantly - what makes people assume this one has/will be any different? Its still getting pushed further ahead than they would've liked, PD are just being smarter about not giving a release date.

But yeah I think the main hold-ups are damage and online, whilst the rest of the team fiddle around the edges, drawing borders and colouring in the front cover like a kid that's finished his project but trying to look busy still. The annoying thing about not setting firm release dates is psychologically, it DOES make people work slower and waste time without a clear vision and plan for where they need to be. I'd rather a few fake release dates if the team worked a bit faster because of it. :-p

After Kaz's comment about being able to release any time - I was slightly surprised it won't be out for christmas to sell a metric s**t tonne of PS3s.

I'm sure that PD have their own "internal" deadlines, that they to try aim for. I doubt they are being lazy or anything, they are Japanese after all. ;)

Hehe, I know. But an internal deadline is still different psychologically to a public one. :-p
I'd be like a bastard EA studio, totally inhuman work practices, crunch time after crunch time until its done. Then I'd start them on GT6 with Porsches and Bathurst. And inject them all with speed and cocaine. Quality may slip eventually...

But seriously for a minute - my hunch is they aren't making hard decisions early enough about which features make the cut. They're no doubt working hard, but I want less of that time wasted on things I won't see.

With the Mercedes SLS AMG as cover car for GT5 the releasedate has gone to March. The Mercedes SLS AMG and Gt5 will then be both for sale.

For years Porsche is in every racegame except Gran Turismo, so i don't believe Porsche will make it to GT5.

The releasedate has nothing to do with the licenses of Nascar and WRC. GT5 don't sell with the gametitle of Nascar or WRC, they only have the license to use the cars. In 2010 there will be a new offical WRC game to.

Creative license taken to let NASCARs turn left AND right!
We'll likely still have RUF, so no worries about Porsche.

I can't wait to get my fingers playing with KY's Jelly. I mean GT5.

-> GT5 was never 'pushed back', but ignorant people (like that XB fanboi guy from the other thread) thought it was 'delayed' making it a big...no a HUGE deal to most current and ex-fans (people who are sick of waiting) of GT5 to be released. :indiff:

-> The NASCAR license is already a done deal, as it was shown in E3.

-> The Porsche license on the other hand is still a mystery inside the Pandora's box. Sure very little details surfaced so far regarding GT5. But just like cars, tracks, and game modes; there are tons of things that are already been done behind close doors. Heck, maybe they already have a slew of data from Porsche that they haven't disclose it yet until next year. Who knows, maybe PD has 20-30 Porsche's in their database its just due to licensing issues they can't confirm nor deny it. PD just needs a "GO" signal from both parties. Just look at the SLS, before Breda Priddy people got the first production spyshots of the car; PD has already aquired, rendered, tested, and showcased the car. :)

At least by the time Gt6 is out he said it will not be this long since they already know the techniques for damage features, online, etc.

I know... so I am saying marketing would be making a huge mistake to skip the PS3 slim/xmas tie in (and be neck and neck with the F3 release) only to try and tie it in to some new line of TVs later one...

You've totally lost me there, how do you market something for christmas that's several months later? Everyone's strapped for cash over christmas anyway, why not wait till everyone's bank balance has recovered?

3D bravia+ps3 3d update+3d gaming(GT5 3d)+3d movies > christmas

Why market for Xmas? You do realize everyone's strapped for cash at Xmas because... they are spending it all on Xmas stuff right?

If you don't believe Xmas is a huge sales period to shoot for... well then I just don't know what else can be said... I mean the holidays are literally probably the biggest shopping season for ANYTHING...

And tying in with a new (probably pricey) TV over tying in with a PS3 slim? Makes no sense... you could probably move plenty of PS3s with GT5 but how many multithousand dollar TVs are you going to move...

Sorry, the marketing logic behind that makes no sense.

I just think there would be no better marketing strategy for launching a 3D TV system than tying it in with the launch of the most awaited game for part of that system. Yeah, I'm most likely wrong but I wouldn't say there's no logic in that.

It's probably the best for the TV, but it's far worse for the game and the console and far worse in the big picture of sales, profit, revenue streams and market infiltration.

Basically it would be akin to saying "we could market our new swimsuit in the spring alongside our redesigned and price cut designer flip flops everyone is raging about or we could release it in the fall alongside our new car that has a special compartment for swimsuits. Hmmm well in spring everyone already has swimsuits so let's go with fall and hope it helps our car sales."

It might not be "no logic" but it's not good logic :)

EH! The slim is gonna sell over christmas, and then sell again when GT5 comes out, GT5 is going to sell whatever/whenever.

I don't doubt it... but sticking two sure sellers together at the same time is almost always a good move... especially around xmas time. You then have a strong chance of nabbing people who wouldn't be moved by any one item at a normal time of the year going for it because of the doube/triple whammy!

I think it was pushed back because it wasn't done yet.

I give that a yes and a no... because of the nature of how they are doing GT5 I really do believe it is pretty much done whenever they want it to be done (ie they can just ship it tomorrow and we will have cars driving around tracks). But the fact that KY and PD didn't seem to have a firm list of what was going to define done until recently (actually KY's constantly elusive statements make me think there still isn't really anything solid) kind of makes it hard to say "it wasn't done" as a reason... it's kind of like drawing a really long line... how do you know when it's done? I guess when you don't feel like you need to draw more.

I still think the damage had a lot to do with it.

It went:

1. *Many retailers (Including the ones I have insiders in) get confirmation of the GT5 PS3 Slim bundle to be released in December*

2. PD: "We can release GT5 any time now! Look at our damage system on these rally cars"

3. *Internet community all laugh at damage model and call it Bumper Cars*

4. *game then announced to be release early 2010*

5. PD: "We are going to spend another five months on the collision and damage modelling"

That's basically it.

I agree and think that's basically the crux of it. There are a lot of collateral areas where improvements can be made during the time they take to work on damage, but really I think had the damage been receieved well at GCS, we would have GT5 before xmas.

The NASCAR license expired this year, iRacing has had the NASCAR license now ever since the beginning of the summer.

Correction: iRacing has the license for the Chevrolet Impala SS and the Chevy Silverado, Not the NASCAR license... YET... The official NASCAR affiliation and series begins in 2010. Its comparable to what PD has with Formula One. They have the license with Ferrari's F1 car, but not the actual series.

I doubt that, cause They would have to start adding Porsches seconds after the license expires, so they would only have months to test, record, and render all the Porsches they want included. Unless they've been secretly working on it already. Plus GT5 was never actually delayed, since a release date was never given.

The licenses do not entitle you to promote the cars in the advertised product unless you have the license or have worked out an agreement with the license holder.
