My first thread here was about a huge snowfall we had in Canada... well that was nothing compared to this:

And to think, we've got bare grass here in Ottawa. I've never seen snow higher than 4ft at the most, and I've lived in Canada my entire life (albeit, the least snowy part of Canada, southern Ontario). But that is just crazy; especially because its in Japan.

Some meters of snow is standart in Japan...maybe 2 or 3 meters... The cold air of Siberia gets over the "warm" sea of Japan. There it loads water and meets the Japanese alps.

Many people don't know, but certain prefectures are a real winter dream every year.... snowboard, skiing and what not... but 4 m is just too much, the buildings would collapse without massive work.

I'd liek to experience a japananese winter someday though. With the right equipment it might be wonderful time, wlaking through snowy Japan...
actually when I think about it, every season in Japan is great for a fanboy like me  I even felt a bit sorry, that I didn't experience the taifun in 2004 as I stayed in Japan for 2 weeks. The taifun was there, but I always was a little too late. I travelled after the taifun so to say. Then again I had two weeks of perfect sunshine, that was great aswell....OK ..ehm...offtopic....;)

Wow, that would be alot of snow to keep up with. The highest snow I've ever seen was 4-5 feet, but I've also seen drifts upwards of 7.

Going a bit off-topic, the ski mountain 4 hours north of me has 425cm of snow, while I have none. Needless to say, I do hope to get up there in the coming weeks.

When I grew up there, I think the deepest snow I've seen was around 20-30cm(foot or less). I lived in Kanto area(Tokyo, Yokohama) and when I was growing up there in the 80's, it rarely snowed for some reason.

When you go up farther north, you see the kind of snow Max is talking about. It supposedly snows like crazy up in Hokkaido, which is our northern island. I call it "Japanese Alaska". :D

Hokkaido aswell of course, but also central Honshu. But only the northwest part, since the alps cause the heavy snowfall ( a barrier so to say ) and that's why the Tokaido area is not so snowy...
:scared: Mah a6m5 what a pity that your cruel parents forced you to leave the land of the rising sun :ill: .. I stil can't believe it ;)
