This reminds me of the time I lived at the space coast and waiting for the space shuttles to launch. It would almost always be delayed, but in the end it'll just be super awesome and worth the wait.

There'll be plenty of reruns, but nothing like watching it live.

For the moment, punching a hole in the Stratos delayed by shifty winds.

So, after he jumps, what happens to the capsule and balloon?

Well, the baloon should keep rising until the lack of pressure in the upper atmosphere lets it expand tothepoint of bursting. Then the capsule should fall, but hopefully it has some sort of control that lets it move to a safe landing point, or it burns up.

He has a 25m² main chute that opens automatically in an emergency (10m² is the standard parachute size), a backup chute and a stabilizing chute so I think hes pretty safe from embedding himself in the earth crust.

The only problem could be violent spinning because of the lack of air that stabilizes his fall during the first 40 seconds, eventually leading to unconsciousness, cerebral hemorrhage and death.

And no, Kittinger did NOT break the sound barrier.

Oh, hes going to start in about 35 minutes.

We have live pictures now. I see a crane, and a capsule.

Edit.

At this rate he will be jumping on December 21st, causing the apocalypse.

Balls of steel? Yes. Every safety precaution they can think of being taken? Yes.

Likelihood of still being scraped up off the floor with a spatula? Still very high. I really want the man to succeed, and I have no idea how he copes with the idea this may be the last thing he does.

he must have been relieved when he heard it was aborted though  wouldn't want to be in his shoes
