Looks like a misaligned texture map.I just noticed this with these rotiform wheels, is this normal, or just me? View attachment 647758
Between 10% and 20% of players across the Forza Horizon series don't get the first achievement, something Fulton insists only involves "driving around in a car for a bit". It's not just Forza players, either: the Playground founder claims 27% of BioShock Infinite players don't get the first achievement for reaching the city of Colombia at the very start of the game, while over 30% of Minecraft players never open their inventory - something explained in the tutorial.
Playground Games actually did a study before starting work on Forza Horizon 3. Two groups of test subjects were given a slice of a Forza game to play: the opening race, followed by the first hour's worth of content. One group raced in the Ferrari 485 Italia, while the other raced in a more ordinary car. When there were asked for their initial impressions of the game, the Ferrari group rated the game higher in terms of visuals, fun and intent to play again.
While Fulton acknowledges this is "not a particularly mind-blowing outcome", what was interesting was the reaction later. After the initial race, both groups played exactly the same hour's worth of content - but the Ferrari group still rated the game much higher overall.
In February 2015, the studio decided this ten-minute initial experience would be split between the opening drive and the first of the game's Showcase events, originally planning for the latter to be the most ambitious and complex in the series.
The following month, Playground finalised the 2D layout of the game's open world and planned a route that would show off the diverse ecotypes of the Australian setting: players would start near the outback and race through rainforests, green fields, a luminescent cave and finally a sun-kissed beach.
By June 2015, a basic framework for the open world had been built and the team tested out their planned route. Concept art was drawn to represent the vistas they hoped to show the player on this opening drive, views that would highlight the best parts of the world or hint at things later to come, such as the city.
While many of these concepts are recreated faithfully in the final game, some had to be altered or dropped. A rickety wooden bridge was widened to make it more playable, preventing consumers from getting frustrated at falling off or colliding with the edges. The rainforest was less dense than originally intended because Playground did not want to sacrifice speed and performance, as it would have done with so many draw calls.
By way of example, the showcase event was actually scaled back over time as the team discovered it wouldn't be able to achieve its vision to the quality it wanted. Originally, players would be racing against a Jeep that would be scooped up by a helicopter, swinging beneath the aircraft as it flew ahead, before being dropped to the ground to finish the race. In the final game, the Jeep is already suspended beneath the helicopter but still falls down for the finale.
I get the feeling that it was initially (the final Showcase is quite modest compared to the 4 that come before it), but Off the Chain is a much more exciting event in comparison, so putting that first kind of makes sense given the whole "first impression" thing they were going for.The last showcase should have been the first.
I really don't care one way or the other, but doing the Centernario/fighter jet race last does make more sense. The Centenario vs VTOL should have been the final showcase, in my opinion.
It hits all of the right notes:I really don't care one way or the other, but doing the Centernario/fighter jet race last does make more sense.
Oh, I'm not disagreeing with you, not at all. I get how people would be disappointed with a slow speed slog through the forest after the excitement of chasing a freaking fighter jet through the streets of a major metropolitan city with one of the most desirable hypercars in the world. It's just not as big an issue for me as it is for a lot of people. Both races are still in the game and I can race either one whenever I want.It hits all of the right notes:
- Features the cover car
- The showcase itself takes place in Surfer's Paradise
- At one point you jump OVER the freaking thing while it's in mid-barrel roll, mere inches from the crowd
- It's intense, fast paced, and the VTOL puts on a show of it's own with the colorful smoke trails.
- Over a million spectators are awestruck by the performance
Nah you're good man. I knew you weren't disagreeing. I was just stating my reasons for thinking that the Lambo vs Jet should've been the final showcase.Oh, I'm not disagreeing with you, not at all. They're selling like hot cakes and unbelievably most are selling for under 1 million credits. Lowest I saw one go for was 200,000.
Yes, the bug that causes aftermarket wheels to add 6000lbs to the Titan has been an issue since the truck was released with Blizzard Mountain, an unfortunate bug which we've known about, investigated, and have concluded will not be fixed. Sometimes the fix to a bug can lead to much larger problems than the original bug itself, and that's something we want to avoid. Such is the case with this bug.
Here's why:
Lowering the weight of the wheels will cause a big jump in PI of any tunes that don’t have stock rims. This causes a whole load of issues as the PI is only worked out when the car is loaded, so any that are in the garage when the update goes out won’t be updated, so they will be able to get into rivals etc. for the incorrect class via car reloading at the event signed up. This would effectively destroy leaderboards where it is used.
Likewise, all the shared tunes on the server will have incorrect PI, causing the same issues.
In short, the change will affect PI hugely (it jumps up a whole class on a fully upgraded Titan) but we can’t auto update all the Titans in the game to reflect this, causing a load of issues.
FYI, this is why the Nissan Titan bug hasn't been fixed/won't be fixed.
Stay tuned; you'll find out in this Friday's Week In Review that we've recently taken additional steps to improve communications with you all....It's about staffing.
We named the car exactly what Ford told us it should be officially called, and went back and forth with them over this and other details because we thought the same thing and wanted to be absolutely sure about it. The "Phase IV" was never officially in its model name, even though Phase IV is how it has come to be known colloquially, that's not what Ford says its called, or was intended to be called.
At the end of the day, we don't decide what a car is called, the manufacturer owns that. And most of the time, they know better than we do.
We might like to call the 1995 911 GT2 a "993" but that's not the official name of the car - it's the "1995 Porsche 911 GT2"
That's on our radar too - There are valid sound bugs you guys brought up in these forums, some of which we knew about like the Valiant, some we might have missed. Some we might be able to fix in a future update, some we might not be able to fix. Doesn't mean we're not listening and logging bugs. We are![]()
