Reporting offensive liveries during the race

I'd be interested to know the general consensus of what people find too offensive/abit of mild fun, I wouldn't go down the route of expletives except for that one time in NFS.

I think I verge on the mildly offensive atleast to some people with the pre-requisite Playboy and DirtyBird Chicken liveries, Both real companies with replica and made up liveries.

So where is the line between offensive and playful.

I feel like the line is pretty clear and obvious. From the ToS

This depends entirely on the game. In an arcade game that doesn't take itself too seriously, I am more tolerant towards this sort of thing. However, I don't expect an FIA-backed video game to have the same atmosphere as an arcade game.

Edit: As @baldgye said above, it is not a matter of getting offended, rather it is a matter of breaking the rules.

And it's not like your breaking the rules to get more enjoyment out of it either. You'd only ever do those things to try and cause offence or be super edgy. It's just childish.

Those kinds of liveries can be useful.
They help, when you are about to start a race, they conveniently indicate riff-raff to kick from your lobby.
If you have '🤬 you' on the back of your car, and get bumped out of a race for 'no reason', now you'll know why.

I better warn all my friends.

Just asking :

I've seen a lot of decals showing off company icons like Coca-Cola, ... [ to be continued endlessly ].
Did every uploader of these decals ask for permission of the respective company ... what he should have before pinning it onto a car?
Or have I got something wrong ? ... seriously asking.

They include that because they have to cover themselves. Otherwise if Coca Cola did kick up a fuss about their logo being in GT Sport, Sony or PD wouldn't be liable.

Is Playboy not considered a Pornographic publication though? I know the logo in and of itself is tame but the connotations behind that logo is where I think things start to get abit muddy.

And the DirtyBird logo here could potentially be seen as obscene by some seeing as it somewhat resembles a... well you can see for yourself, If anything that is part of the reason I make liveries with it not to be obscene but because to me its funny how a brand can get away with it looking quite so phallic and not get in hot water for it. However I wouldn't put their tag-lines on a livery those are abit obscene.

Logo's for actual company's are not a problem. You Porn have an esports team and have had problems with there logo on team shirts, but I don't understand why...

Probably like the Playboy logo the connotations behind the brand is what causes the problem I would imagine, That's where I think things start to be not so crystal clear.

I see the companies as being pleased that we're giving them free advertising in the process.

Playboy are also in the fragrance market, so I think there's a grey area there. Besides:

If it's found in a real-life motorsport, then it's acceptable in GT Sport.

I don't know about that, Playboy is a brand. It would be like saying FCUK would be similar, because of it's abbreviation... these are companies with no clear political agenda or message.

Things would get complicated when you started having extreme politically leaning companies represented in the game, like Brebart (I think that's how it's spelt). At which point Sony or PD would make the decision, but it would still be reported by users.

Thinking about that last example, if you did find the Playboy logo or the FCUK logo offensive, then you should report it. At the end of the day we do not decide how the game is moderated.

I guess it all comes down to false positives and differing opinions at the end of the day, FCUK for example while it may well be a well known brand to most there will still be people who report it because they might not know the brand and think the person is trying to bypass a filter of some kind.

I guess the PD/Sony mod team could always google for brands if they aren't sure about them so that livery creators like myself wouldn't have to worry, As I am in the process of slowly creating a Playboy Racing Audi TT replica that actually raced and it would annoy me if I was to finish it and then have it removed.

I don't think you have too much to worry about, especially as the highest rated liveries are plastered with Cigarette brands haha

Policy and law are too different things, a broadcaster for instance might have a policy against promoting porn, if that's what a broadcaster says, then a series with a deal with that broadcaster would need to make sure the people who sign-up to participate in said series do not do anything to breach those guidelines. Like when a racing driver says **** on TV, and the the commentator apologises profusely, it's because the broadcaster likely has guidelines about what can be broadcast, and what should be censored at certain times of the day. It's not illegal to say the word, but people may censor it.

Or have I got something wrong ? ... seriously aski

The thing with intellectual property is that whilst it is covered by laws, the acceptable use of intellectual property is governed by agreements and precedents. Of course no one here asks for permission to use logos in GTS, just as no-one here asks permission before posting a logo in a thread here. Both GTS, and GTplanet make the individual responsible for what they post, in practice though, Coca-Cola would have a tough time bringing successful legal action against an individual for making a decal in GTS, and pretty much a hopeless case against someone using them, and it would never be worth their time anyway - where's the money? In practical terms - what is the point? If I was selling £30 T-shirts with a Coca-Cola logo on, and I hadn't asked for permission, I could expect them to take action, and reasonably, they want some of the money I was making off their name, or more likely, money and to shut me down, in order to keep control over their brand.

Having said all that, I'm far from an expert on matters of IP to be honest. Technically I am an inventor, with patents, design registrations, trademarks and license agreements, and though it is a total minefield (and an expensive one), it is often refreshingly 'reasonable'.

To echo this, it's the reason why F1 itself had clamped down on tobacco advertising at certain Grand Prix's but not others, before eventually eliminating them entirely.

To be fair, Tobacco advertising is one area that does verge into law anyway... given F1's global presence, make up and distribution, it must have been a bloody nightmare to comply with legally before a simple full ban.

In this day and age you don't have to do much to offend some people so it's not worth discussing that.
Clearly the ability to upload custom decals was always going to be abused by the lower intellects that play GT Sport.

I find it quite useful actually because it gives you a big clue straight away as to the mental age of that particular player,
which quite often translates into the usual undesirable on track behaviour. In other words it's a big red flag that says 'avoid at all costs'

How old are you? I cannot understand how something like that can offend someone or ever draw his attention!

If that's the case, then why would anyone bother putting it on their car in the first place? The intent is obvious. And knowing that it's against the rules, but deciding to do it anyway, how old are they? It's like the porn site logos that keep being uploaded and deleted. It's not that funny, they've been deleted enough times that everyone knows they're not wanted by the developer and/or Sony. So why keep uploading it?

A lot of people need to grow up. I keep hoping they'll start handing out account bans for repeat offenders. They're already handing out account suspensions, according to a couple of posters on the FB group.

So where is the line between offensive and playful.
For me personally, it's anything I wouldn't want my kid seeing on the street. I can't do anything about someone putting **** U on their bumper in the real world, but in a Rated E video game with a report function, I'll click the button every time.

If we're going to start reporting liveries that violate the terms of use, then you can report everything, because almost everything breaks rule 1. Basically every logo that has been uploaded has been protected by copyright...

Someone swears in their logo, so what? As long as it isn't racist, sexist, hate towards a religious group, or anything like that, who cares?

I agree.
Motorsport has and always will be an aggressive sport filled with testosterone and ego.
Some guy running an explicit hello on his back bumper just causes me to say Oh yeah?
Alright Sally let's do this.
