RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

uMadson?
I can make my own video reviews too, just need a mic and a bloody HDPVR.

Drop into a local game store that sells second hand stuff, like Gamestation, and pick up a Rock Band USB mic. I got mine for £8 and it records fantastically clear, no extra cables or anything needed and it's PS3 and Xbox compatible too in case you need it for that too :D

Your Skyline R34 tune was so great i coudnt use words. I had to make a video
Subscribe to my channel as i will be showing drift battles and racing tunes and much more!

Thanks for the video! Glad you like the tune. I've subbed to your channel, looking forward to your videos. :D

Mine's Terminator Review.

As one of my favourite cars on the game, I was truly excited to try out Roj's improvements on their masterpiece car. I hope the good people at mine's aren't too angry with the word 'improvements':guilty: The terminator is coming, so you'd better hand over your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle. (Ok that didn't really work :sly:)

But first, let us flash back to a time long ago on the day of my acquisition of this 4WD beast.

As soon as I bought the car I loved everything about it. I like the styling of the r34, and the mine's livery, blue steering wheel and aero parts really added to the special feel of the car. The sound of the engine as I first barreled down the straight at route 5 (my favourite testing ground for 4WDs), was agressive, loud and enjoyable. As I braked before the tunnel, I felt confident and excited with the car. However, as the long, gentle curve of the tunnel progressed, I felt myself being pushed closer and closer to the concrete wall, and reluctantly relinquished the position of my over zealous right foot. Understeer. My old nemesis. I recoiled as I tasted the bitter sense of betrayal. I sadly concluded that my new whip would have to gather dust in my garage along with other disappointments like my enzo and blue sti.

However, a while later I decided to try and tune the car myself, and was becoming reasonably happy with the results, although I suspect it was simply the placebo effect clouding my better judgement. In any case, as soon as I applied the RKM tune to the untamed Lioness, she became a beautifully balanced and savagely powerful beast that is now my favourite car.

Tight hairpins and straights alike, the terminator destroys it all. whilst the throttle naturally needs to be kept low during a hairpin, on exits, the tune allows you to get on the power really early without being pushed off the track, which is invaluable in a 4WD car. I've had considerable success in online 600pp races thanks to this tune's negation of the usual cons of 4WD, and if you are a driver who, like me, tends to get a bit too excited during online races and ends up facing the wrong way when driving a RWD monster like a Ferrari or a McLaren, this may be just the car you're looking for.

Where I find that well tuned 4WDs naturally excel in terms of fun and driveability are 2 types of corners.

The first is the top gear 'follow through' type corner, found at the TGTT, the corner before the very tight hairpin at route 5, and the dunlop section at Tsukuba. The terminator has superb balance through these types of sections, allowing you to go literally full throttle without a hint of a smell coming from the seat of your trousers. In many 4WD cars, this devil-may-care driving style will see you compacted into a cube by the outer wall of the turn, and in many high powered MR cars, you may find yourself in a similar situation except the inside wall would be the culprit. This is genuinely one of the best handling cars I have driven yet on the game, and certainly the best 4WD car. The balance and sharpness of it are unparalleled.

The second type of corner is the kind of long curve found in the previously mentioned tunnel at route 5, tokyo r246, monza and numerous other tracks. Whilst this kind of turn is not nearly so terrifying, I think it's a great test of a good 4WD tune. in a MR car, this kind of turn is a breeze, but for a 4WD you will often have your enjoyment curtailed by understeer in these sections, as you reluctantly have to take your foot off of the gas multiple times during a single corner. However, the terminator destroys these sections with ease. The rock solid stability and responsive handling allows you to step on the throttle a lot harder than usual as you glide unwaveringly through the corner. In fact, the stability is so profound that you may find yourself daring to hit the throttle harder and harder until you inevitably cross the threshold and begin to be slightly pushed off your line. I hesitate to call it 'pushing', in this car, though. It's more a friendly reminder of, "Hey, moron; RKM may be good but they can't negate the laws of physics", prompting you to relax your right foot just a tiny bit and be guided back on to the racing line.

After deciding I must give the beast one final test, I took it to the ultimate example of corner type 2.. Cape Ring's eponymous, and cartoonishly proportioned carousel. As the terminator took me round and round and round at breakneck speed with its flawless stability, I literally broke out into a smile halfway through, realising that I haven't had this much fun with GT5 in ages. It has been really refreshing to drive a 4WD car that is actually fun and competitive, and I look forward to trying out more of RKM's 4WD behemoths.

I have tried to give more detailed feedback about what the car actually does and performs like in this review by learning about the technical jargon and how to describe car behaviour from this forum, hope I did a better job this time. In any case, I'll be back to review some more cars soon.

N.B. this review has been written for a while, and I have since tried a few more of RKM's 4WD tunes, and I must say they are all nearly as awesome as this. Not to mention the as yet unreleased ZZII tune Roj did for me!:eek::nervous::D

Hey guys! Guess who is back after a long time fixing his laptop?

Yes, it is me, the man who make the "RKM Overpowered" conversions and I'm here to do more. I had a break and now I have my math down solid to the finest key points. Once I redo my information I lost, I can post information again.

Mine's Terminator Review.
Wow. Just wow. Thanks for the review! I think you've pretty much summed everything up and then some. 👍 Because the Mine's has a lot of front downforce, it has a much higher limit than a regular R34 which already handles very well. So it was just natural that the Mine's would be a hell of a lot faster whilst still retaining it's good handling. :D

And yes, the ZZII is a monster. :D

Ohai! :D

I think I just created a monster! I wanted a Purple Devil Z but I got the wrong Z...picked up a Fairlady Z 280Z-L (S130) '78 instead. So I tuned it anyway :D and made my own Orange Devil(-ish) Z-L. It's pretty much on par with the purple Z, but it's a bit fatter, by about 200kg, and I shall now try not to kill myself on the Nürburgring :D wish me luck!

The Z-L is guaranteed to be easier to drive than the ZG. It may even understeer a bit with the settings I used for the ZG.

On the subject of request tuned getting released publically, didn't you say you might release the Galant I requested? You said it was the best rally tune you'd done, so...yeah. Tranny will probably be worse now with the new update though.
Yeah I need to release that at some point too. The transmission wont be too different, gives it a chance to improve at least.

Hey, first tune I've gotten from you was the Zonda, yesterday, and I have to say it was alot better than the standard fully modded car. I've found there still to be a few issues with understeer tho. What I did was add 29 kilos ballast to the front of the car, and now the car is a dream to drive. I'd like it if you'd mess around with the ballast a little more to see if it can be improved any more as I have no Idea about tunning really, or just try out the car with ballast to confirm what I've done :)

Edit: I meant the Enzo :dunce:

Yesterday? RJ has no PS3 and I've not tuned a Zonda, so I'm very much confused. :boggled: Perhaps the Zonda snuck into our garage and tuned itself?

Anyway. Is it an R or a "normal" Zonda? I'm going to assume it's the normal one because the R would rather oversteer than understeer. Adding ballast is an effective way to put weight over the wheels, but it's more like a redneck fix than an actual solution. You've only used 29kg so I reckon the understeer can be tuned out without any ballast.

Neither me or RJ are capable of taking any requests for the time being, but do go look at some of our high-powered MR tunes and see how we've defeated understeer and try and apply that to your Zonda. Generally we make the rear stiffer than the front, but not by much.

Sorry I f#$ked up, meant the Enzo on page 41 of the thread :dunce:, and the 29kg shifts the ballance of the car from 44-56 to 46-54, so the car has better balance..... maybe??? I don't know if this has any effect in tunning on GT as I'm not a tunner as I said earlier.:)
Sorry for the confusion.:boggled:

Oh! Well then yes, the Enzo is pretty hopeless around corners, so the ballast does help. We didnt have ballast in the game when we tuned it so it missed out on that. It needs a retune really.

Usually 50/50 balance is ideal, but sometimes you see better results from a slight front or rear bias. Or in my Volvo's case, a heavy front bias. You've got the right idea though, maybe try adding weight until the balance is 50/50 and see if you prefer that, or what you have now. 👍

Thanks, forgot an update added in balast, I'll give the 50-50 a go and see how it goes, at the moment I'm doing 3:30's on the La Sarthe seasonal, I'll see if this improves that....... Thanks again ;)

Yeah. We updated the gearbox but we didnt mess with ballast. I'm doing 3:45's in my Scuderia at Sarthe. Really good money maker. :D
Where's your volvo tune :D It's not on the front page…

Here.

So how's anyone gonna find it if it isn't on the front page? You'd expect people to flip through 4812524712474 billion million zillion pages of random spam and the occasional hint of reviews to find that link? Hmmm…maybe a tall order……
