RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

And last time I looked I was second in my entire friends list...or do I have to break out the green dragon and show you all up again? :embarrassed:

I'd prefer you trying to beat us using the same car you did from the start. :P And easy with the convo, we still want RJ to see Racedude's review without too much trouble.

Yeah.. Anyway, I should bring the RVR Shelby to see how much points I can do...

GT86 domination at Clubman, done.
Consider your score.... Beaten! By a Mustang, which surprised me with how good it was.

In general, the car is very responsive, very smooth. I can recommend this tune for beginners.
The acceleration is actually pretty decent and constant, due to the generous powerband.
It is very agile on the mid and mid-high speed corners.

There's still some understeer on the slowest corners, and high-speed sweepers, but mostly because of the long wheelbase...

... It can be the fun kind of understeer, though. :mischievous:

Nordschleife lap:
Time ................. 7:57.282
Fuel used ........... 12 Liters
Tire wear ... About 90% left

Online performance.

This car is perfect for 500pp racing, although the hardest part was finding one room that ran on Sport Softs. The car's feel is pretty much the same than offline.

Needless to say, I smoked them :sly:. Beat them all on the standing start, and on half a lap, they were away from my mirror sight.

An added bonus was the "OMG WTF HOW THAT BEA,NER BEAT MAH ELISE WITH A 🤬 WAGON??!!!" effect .

Room for improvement?

Well, some:

To preserve the nice handling characteristics, a chassis restoration must be performed after each race, otherwise it becomes a bit of a pig. This might become expensive, if you don't do much seasonal grinding. Maybe a rollcage might come handy.

Remember when I said I ran an auto gearbox instead of the method RJ asked me to follow? Well, the reason is because it becomes a bit harder to handle with shorter gears. It might be the LSD, the thick powerband, the VCD, or the suspension settings (or just me and my DS3), but you might want to check on that.

Bonus: This tune also works on the 2.0 turbo wagon. But in none of the sedans (because of the big difference in weight distribution).

OVERALL: 9/10

As for the gearing... Yep, probably. If you got used to the "normal" ratio setup, the low final will play hell with the way the diffs act.

As for the rest... Sounds right. 👍

I suppose I can live with a 270 point difference because you're not Onboy. Grats. :P

The gloves are off when/if I ever replace the GT86 though. :mischievous:

Well the idea is to bring a JDM car that's equal with everyone else's and see who can get the highest score week in and week out. I have a GT86, Onboy has his S14 and everyone else tries to take us on with American muscle thinking they're hot doo-doo. :P

I guess I could try a few of my JDM cars. Maybe an R32 GTS-T. I'll never know Onboy's scores because I didn't add him though.👎 He probably has a full list anyway.

The R32 is a sensible choice. I learned how to drift in GT5 with a 300ZX and used that until the GT86 arrived.

I'm sure he can make space for you. His list is a bit like mine, where most of the other people on there are testers or tuners from various tuning shootouts.

I'd use a GT86, but that wouldn't be much fun, two people having the same car. I use a different car every time though. Although the 370Z would be pretty good too. If he can add me, then I won't complain. That's just another cool person on my list.

V8 > JDM :P

The 370Z would be a good choice. You could even use one of the tuner 350Z's if you wanted to be more stylish. :P

What if it's a V8 JDM? :P

YES. Who would say no to that? I'd love to have one. It's the only AE86 I don't have.

Send me an FR and I'll see if I can get my internet to work long enough to accept and send you the car. If I can't do it tonight I'll get it done after work in the morning.👍👍

It might not be until tomorrow that I can send an FR, as the All-Star games are on.
So a Ford Taurus SHO is better than a 370Z eh? :P
It is if you're a 50 year-old with E.D. Which luckily I'm not.

The Taurus SHO was and always will be one of the most overrated cars ever produced.

I remember back in '95 I was stationed in Augsburg Germany and me and my partner along with another team had to transfer some equipment to a base in Vicenza Italy.
The other team was laughing about how they were going to be waiting for us because the rental car company gave them a Taurus SHO wagon while my partner and me got "stuck" with a Volvo 850 T5R wagon. I had to wait for the Taurus to catch up entering Austria, and again when we got into Italy. Then had to poke along in Italy so I didn't lose them since I was the only one who'd been to the base before and the idiots in the Taurus couldn't read a map. Fell in love with that Volvo, and decided the Taurus SHO was nothing but a bunch of hype...

There's no such thing as a Taurus SHO wagon.

None.

Well, there might be 3. I know of at least one Jellybean SHO wagon that's most likely been destroyed since, and have read of "factory" 2nd gen SHO wagons, but there's no way the guys you were with rented an SHO wagon.

Hmm not enough sleep and old age must be getting to me... was definitely a Taurus wagon...:dunce:

On a brighter note for you JDM lovers the engines in the SHOs were at least partly designed and built by Yamaha...
I believe the heads on the V8 were Yamaha and the block Cosworth, the earlier V6s were all Yamaha.

@Turtle sorry my internets done for the night, hopefully it'll be working when I get home from work in the morning...

In 1995 it would've been 150hp on a good day (3.0 or 3.8, take your pick) stuck to an AXOD.

So... Slow, very slow. Far removed from an SHO in every way.
