As a precursor to a potential Rolex Sports Car Series for GTPlanet.net, I am proposing the Rolex 24 Laps of Daytona.

We are now discussing when race two will be held. World Times may be a useful link you can check out in my signature.

Classes of Competition:

Daytona Prototype - DP is a class open to all Group C and Le Mans Prototype cars in Gran Turismo 5. There are two strict rules in the class, the cars must be ballasted up to 1030kg and the power is to be restricted to 530hp.

Grand Touring - For the purposes of Gran Turismo 5, the GT class will feature the same production models that the GT cars in Grand-Am are based on; BMW M3, Chevrolet Corvette, Chevrolet Camaro, Porsche 911 (Ruf RGT), and Mazda RX-8. Below are the modifications that must be installed on each car and the weight and power each car must run and the rear wing position each car must apply.

The usual GTPlanet Online Racing rules apply. Any questions about the cars can be posted below.

The race will run 24 laps around Daytona Road Course. Two classes will be sharing the track, so I will post the obligatory video now. Please note that for our purpose on the high-banking, GT cars must maintain the high line while DPs are asked to hug the yellow line.

The server will be set to run 25 laps, the pace lap will be single file until the exit of the bus stop when the cars are to get into double-file formation, with the pole sitter on the inside. The start will be split with the GTs starting separate and behind the DPs.

If numbers dictate the race will be restricted to GT only.

If you want to race for the Rolex write down your name and the car you would like to run. At this point, I'm not particularly concerned with a split between DP and GT, as this is a fairly short race and I'd like to see which class the community responds better to for the purposes of a potential championship.

Race Two Entry List:
01. Jonerz99 Chevrolet Corvette (GT)
02. STIGGY_34 Peugeot 908 (DP)

Excellent. The original idea was to have only Group C cars. Do you mean the 905? I don't mind if you run the 908 quite frankly, as if it is competitive in DP the more the merrier. You're in, mate!

Chris

yea thanks man just to clarify what approx time would it be in Australia for the race and i love the modern look of the 908 over the 905

haha nah man 3-4 am on a saturday morn ill be lucky if im even tired count me in

I'm afraid Saturday doesn't work for me but if you ever do something like this again please tell me.

Looking at starting a full championship, Bubble. I'll PM you when that gets underway.

Chris

I think I'd like to enter this......

Not sure on the car yet......it'll be a GT car, just can't decide between a vette, porsche or Beemer.

Actually.....what about the 458 seeing as Ferrari has just issues a GA spec 458?

Cheers

Rob (RETROCRX)

I'll work on the homologation of a 458 today. It will be heavily restricted, just as a heads-up.

Chris

EDIT: Ferrari 458 has been added to the GT roster.

Restricted from stock form yes......as is the real car!

But if it's competitive with the others then no worries. See what you can work out package wise and if you don't come up with something in time don't worry I'll use one of the others.

Cheers

Rob

What kind of lap times are you other GT guys running?

I just want to see if I'm even in the ballpark with a 1:47.8 in the 458?

I did build and try the vette too.....it and the 458 seem pretty equal...good work Jonerz

Rob

Thanks, Rob! I was around there with the cars in offline testing. I don't know why, but when I've gone online with them I've gotten slower. I don't know if that is the case across the board... but anyways, that seems about right for the car.

Chris

Hi all,

I might hop in for this race. I want to build an "underdog" RX-8 and smoke all those exotics!!!:dunce:

Excellent, glad to have you.

Two really late performance adjustments, that I'll bring up in game. The RX-8 can now run at 395hp (less air restrictor), and the BMW can add catalytic converter: sports, and carbon drive shaft (new hp limit is 487).

Chris

Hey Chris,

Just a heads up, I may not be able to do this race. The contactor who is supposed to be working at my place hasn't shown up yet and get a sneaky feeling he's gonna show up right at race time.

Hopefully I can, but if I can't make it......don't hold it against me for the next time....this setup really interests me.

Cheers

Rob

No worries, Rob. Real life takes priority, in my mind.

Chris

EDIT: Room is up down.

Sorry gents, got kicked from my own lobby! Hmm...

Jonerz,

I made a new room called "Joey Rolex24 testing",

the numbers is:

14726399840824272611

That was a great time until the server booted me out.....keep me in the loop for future races.

I was running a comfortable 2nd on lap 13 until the thing crashed......didn't really notice much tire wear......though the lap times were getting a little slower.

Rob

Yeah, sorry about that Rob. Don't know why it did that. I guess I'll clear my cache next time and make sure I'm dedicating ALL my bandwidth to the race. Were you still doing 1:47's in the race?

Chris

No but consistent mid to low 1:49s for the most part.

No worries.....just let me know next time you do an event like this.....I like having to use specific cars with concrete rules......though the guy who was winning was using a GTR I think (couldn't get close enough to see for sure)
