Rubberbanding ai and a race simulator have no place in the same game.

I apologize for the rant but I been holding it in for a long time and I finaly hit a breaking point.

Not saying that I am talented enough to do S5 and get a gold time off the rip like some of you, but I also dont feel the "get good" reply quite works here either. Multiple times I have been on or close to a gold run and the ai ruins it. The pathetic effort that went into the ai questions me supporting Polyphony all together. The ai that actually goes out of its way to cross the track and brake check you is trolling and getting to me. I thought this was a race simulator? There is no excuse for this in a race simulator. On top of this I have an excessively unstable car, likely way more unstable then it probably is in real life. I only have a projector screen to play on too, which makes it harder to see on the screen then in real life, which adds to my hatred of night driving in this game.

Now to the even more disrespectful part. I hate rubberband ai with a burning angry passion. Years ago I was playing motorstorm, an arcade racing game. I had to stop playing because I found "rubberbanding ai" so infuriating that I couldn't take it. I hate cheating and all rubberband ai is a very nasty form of developer cheating to the player. Years later, after being able to avoid it almost completely, it pops up in my favorite racing series. I dredged through the game full of rubberbanding and the whole game being catch the rabbit racing, which is also pretty offensive. They have had so many years to get okay ai and in my opinion rubberband ai makes it so much worse. As I love Gran Turismo, I stuck through it. Even with this stuff I despised, I got to S and still did well. I just can't get gold in the S5 challenge though. The overly bearing cheating aggresvive unfair ai keeps lightly tapping me causing me to instantly spin and get disqualified. The ai actually does this on purpose which again nothing but pute trolloing by Polyphony. Sometimes because I can't see as well the ai gets by me and pulls a cheat brake check six minutes into the run and of course I get a big fat unfair disqualification. Maybe if Polyphony didn't build this level around penalties, disqualification, punishment, and unfairness it would be playable, but they got those parts of the simulator right, then added the cheating
ai after. Again sorry for the rant I am not one to usually go off. I am struggling to stick with Pd on this one. I know its one event but the one straw broke the camels back. Can you help me out because I feel I can't do this and I golded the X1 challenges in 5. I just need to see.

Can't help, just wanted to say you have more faith in the AI than me if you think they're doing this stuff deliberately.

Yeah, it's not like they've programmed the AI to be dirty drivers. They've programmed them to be stupid. Combine that with the rubber-banding and you get interesting results. Like a car that you just easily overtook is suddenly ramming the back of your car in the next braking zone. Or you make a move down the inside, you're on the racing line for the next corner, but before you get there, the car you easily caught and just made a move on suddenly figures out what the pedal on the right does and decides it wants to be on the racing line... despite the fact you're already on it.

If you look on the box it says "The Real Driving Simulator." I agree the AI is terrible, but the game does not state to be a racing sim, just a driving sim.

Look at the back of your box. There are several references to racing.

Of course there are several references to racing. There is even races in the game believe it or not, not very good racing with AI, but it is somewhat there.

I was just saying, the game does not state to be a "racing" simulator, just a driving simulator.

It claims to be a racing game no matter what the marketing tagline on the front says. No the racing isn't very good but that is the point.

This has been the case since gt1. Remember getting more enjoyment from a time trial than racing against the ai even then.

This is such an overused and yes, lame fallback position whenever someone questions racing in GT. Racing is all over the box. The game contains hundreds of races. We're about to celebrate the life and racing career of Ayrton Senna a world renowned race car pilot. All the Seasonal events are either drifting or racing against the clock. The only way to progress through the offline portion of the game is racing. I don't believe there is a single event in the game based on just driving around. It's a racing game.

I couldn't agree more. I've found a temporary work around, don't play the offline game. Works for me! ;) I also have hope for the future, it's called "Project Cars". :D

Notice the longer the race, the less rubber banding. You're starting from the back every race to give you something to do - zip through traffic. The AI is rubberbanded, because no one wants to do ten plus lap races anymore. How else do you expect to win a three lap race from the back with a similar powered car?

The AI sucks anyways and we all know. It's nothing new and silly to complain about. It's like bitching about too much of an ingredient or the lack there of in something that would suck either way. If you want better racing, race online with people know what they're doing, use there mirrors respect blocking rules. Plain and simple.

Qualifying and difficulty sliders eliminates the need for rubber banding.
