Saker Sports Cars originated in New Zealand and have been manufactured from 1989 to the present day. The Saker car is named after the bird of prey, found in the Middle East and Central Asia. Since 2003 Sakers are produced in the Netherlands by Saker Sportscars.
The first Saker SV1 was designed and built by Bruce Turnbull, of Turnbull Engineering, in Feilding, New Zealand. The car was road legal and regularly used for touring and competition. The Saker is a car made to fit almost any V8 Engine. Many different powerplants have been implemented in various sakers, including the: Lexus V8 + Renault Transaxle, Nissan V8 + Renault Transaxle, Subaru RS 2.0L turbo , Ford Mercury Cougar 3.8L V6 & a Rover 3.5L V8.
