@JMoney689 well... That's kinda why EV's are big right now. To make gas last longer...
And the Model S is bar-none, no-contest the best mass-produced electric car on the market right now. If you want performance, get a Fisker.
Oh wait...

I'll consider liking Tesla when they build a sedan that can top the M5. Or the IS F. Or the Panamera.

The Model S can beat performance sedans in drag race, it may have a harder time around a track. But the Model S was not built to complete with performance sedans.
EV cars are still relatively new technology unlike gas powered cars that have had many years to get higher HP numbers and make them better, give EV cars a few years and they will be fastest cars in the world.

A track ready EV? I'm excited.

Idiots be like:

I'm not disagreeing with you but
Electric cars have been on the market since 1896. They were advertised as being quiet and generally appealed to women. They lasted a few more years after steam-engined cars but were resurrected in the 80s and then again in the 2004ish area.
But, yes. One does not buy an electric car for track days.

Anybody who loves gasoline powered cars should be praying that electric cars continue to improve and become mainstream. The more electric cars sold, the less likely that fuel-powered cars will be regulated out of existence. I'll gladly have a 3 car setup with my oil and gas crazed RX-7, my 500hp S2000, and my HOV-lane approved, tax incentivized, smug-resistant, rechargeable, dead-silent, utterly smooth, and effortlessly torquey electric daily driver.

Yea... about that... gasoline isn't gonna be around for ever. Hopefully when it gets around that point electric cars will be perfected and abundant

I think it will. The market will just continue to drive the price up, ensuring that the rarer it becomes, the fewer people buy it. Jay Leno and folks like him are always going to need gasoline and will pay amazing prices for the privilege to be able to start up one of their old dirty gasoline powered automobiles and ride around.

The thing is, eventually electric cars will silence all real reasons to want gas-powered cars, and it's only going to be nostalgia that drives the gas powered car market. Diesel will be widely desirable longer than gasoline (my person prediction), but not forever.

A reasonable solution to gasoline and diesel is alcohol. It still burns dirty, but it's not finite.

It doesn't burn nearly as dirty as the other two, and hydrogen is the only other solution. How to get Hydrogen though is a dirty process...

Back to electric-powered vehicles: They would be better if the battery technology improved and the source of electricity was 100% clean (IE: Solar power, wind power, nuclear despite it still scares me, etc). Disposing of old batteries is another thing that needs to be improved.

Using usage numbers from 2009 and 2010, we will run out of fuel by 2050 and those were generous estimates. A couple years later, those numbers were supposedly 2035-2040 for when we're running empty.

The Saleen Model S will be a called FourSixteen and unveiled this Sunday at Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance.

Saleen snagged a spot on the Concept Car lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance this Sunday, where it will finally debut its modified Model S. And now it has a name.

The FourSixteen, according to Saleen, will have a "comprehensive list of aerodynamic, performance and technological upgrades", and hopefully all of those details will be revealed when Steve Saleen takes to the green on Sunday.

That died when Steve Saleen left the company in '07. I think they realized that there is no market for a mid level supercar.

Especially from a company not too many have heard of in the mainstream, not that it matters since other under the radar groups seems to sell their stock just fine. I'd think there was enough crazies to go around to spend the money on this type of stuff

As for the Tesla, I hear the name means 4 16v batteries :sly:*

*It's a joke :guilty:

Based on the Model S P85 Performance model, it boasts a new 11.39:1 final gear ratio as well as a locking differential unique to Saleen to launch the car faster off the line, although no performance figures were released.

To aid performance, the Foursixteen benefits from revised suspension that can be optioned to an adjustable setup for different road and track settings. But it's clear Saleen has shifted the Model S' focus from being a cruiser to more of a bruiser. Even the seats are more bolstered and more sporting, making the standard car's interior look spartan by comparison.

The Foursixteen starts off at $152,000, but is still eligible for all of the tax credits the standard Model S qualifies for. Saleen will also offer some upgrades to existing Model S owners through their performance parts division.
